  • loving you Tony!!!

  • he is old i am like 29 I look young of course

  • wow ! i read he is fluent in english i didnt expect it was really good

  • my professor is from HK and been speaking English since young age, graduated from HKU, did his PhD in Australia, even in those circumstances, he still have rather obvious canton accent. Tony is definitely speaking better English than most HKer I've met, not only the accent, he's more articulate than I expected.

  • Why people say I look like him I am not even chinese?

  • @hotboyme u can make a video. let others say whether u looks like Tony Leung.

  • Tony ~~~loving you always!

  • Love him, but only at number 2 I'm afraid. Andy Lau is the number 1.:-)

  • Still water runs deep...

  • his English is good :)

  • Pimp.

  • "I think he is a woman predator" LOL so cute

I love how articulate he is....even though it's a bit hard to hear past the accent sometimes

  • he's a very mysterious yet magnetising person :)

  • Tony Leung such humble experienced talented actor from HK.

  • he didn't blinked when he was asked questions by the reporter. haha. so cuteeee :D

  • wtf did they translate?? wow his English is fucking good

  • Wow ! This is so impressive....I didn't know Tony Leung actually speaks very good English fluently...Woahh !

  • @ChyeHengTay Thats because english is an offical language of Hong Kong

  • @arteddie You sure? Because I've seen Andy Lau speaks..and it was pretty bad..haha..No offense to Andy Lau..:P

  • @ChyeHengTay Hong Kong was a part of Britain untill we handed it back to China in 1997. So English is everywhere including street signs and road names etc. But i guess some speak better english than others

  • @arteddie I was in Hong Kong the past spring and although English signs are everywhere, we had a very hard time finding someone who could give us directions in English on the streets. Tony Leung's English is definitely above average in Hong Kong.

  • He's really good in english

  • wow he actually sounds quite posh!! hahaha

  • I watched the entire Song Hung Ky Hiep series and man, did I fall in love with him.

  • @XxXchaoschickXxX Song Hung Ky Hiep ???? What's that? In Cantonese?

  • @ttiiyy it's Chut Tai Sheung Kiu

  • he is still sooo hot ;) lol seriously too.

  • @mrpeacelovedope Ah, thanks for the heads up. I'm hoping he gets the roles he so richly deserves instead of being stereotyped. This was clearly demonstrated by Chow Yun Fat - one of the most notable actors of his generation yet look how underappreciated the guy was in Hollywood. Shame they couldn't utilize his talents any better... Their loss, really.

  • @Xxorbela thats the wrong Tony Leung. The one you're thinking about is Tony Leung Ka-fai. This one is Tony Leung Chiu-Wai. Both great actors. In the business they're known as Little Tony (and) Big Tony. This one is the little one supposedly.

  • i did not expect him to speak with that accent. very cool.

  • dude was dope in 2046

  • that's a different tony leung, not this one.

  • HK accent. LOL

  • The lastest Ip Man?

  • @dogooda12 Yes

  • He is cute.

  • Tony seems to be an actor with alot of depth and carries himself very well.

  • lol he looks stoned.. its so funny! LOL

  • I find him so attractive. He really melts me with his dreamy eyes. I sound like a teenager but I am in my 40's. He is my favorite male actor.

  • I find him so attractive. He really melts me with his dreamy eyes. I sound like a teenager but I am in my 40's.

  • impressive ~~ fluent english n very "natual" .. like his talking with a friend .. n very charming ! !!

  • Just love Tony Leung.... so enigmatic, sexy and excellent actor. Buy all his films, even his no-so-good ones cause he makes any film worth watching...

East Asian cinema way surpasses hollywood...

  • Is it just because he is nervous with the command of the english language or is he just naturally soft spoken and so composed? The introversion is unbearable! All that enigma! V v attractive

  • @walliamdzi he's naturally soft spoken i think.. he's quite a shy and reserved person even when he's speaking in Chinese.

  • classiest and the most charismatic man on earth, also the most talented actor in the film industry.

  • With no doubt, the most beautiful grinning in Chinese cinema

  • Wow...holy shit. These HK actors are getting really good at their English.

I thought he had a bit of an European accent when I first heard his English, can't exactly place where. xD

  • @xKuroRoy blame the brits =P :D

  • he is so cute!!! lol

  • Your daughters are soo hot!!!

  • by far a better actor then de caprio!! tho the movie departed was well made but infernal affair was far better

  • He's sweet! Has sad eyes though. I've only seen him in The Lover - so far. A good man he is.

  • @Yashodam the tony leung (chui wa) above isn't the same as the tony leung (ka-fai) from the lover.

  • @pinkksoda

Thank you! I made a mistake, but now I am definately eager to know about this Tony Leung too.

  • @Yashodam the tony leung (chiu wai) above isn't the same as the tony leung (ka-fai) from the lover.

  • I don't know that Tony has lots of US fans!!

I fought that he only popula in HK and China!!

  • Guess what, American will never know about this video clip. so Only ASians here!

  • @clanerin Wrong, I'm American and I knew about Tony for the past 10 years.

  • @DjAntomattei damn, you've just disproved me! good job.

  • @clanerin Know him from the films Bullet In The Head, Hard-Boiled, Tokyo Raiders, and Red Cliff. All of which I have enjoyed.

  • His vocabulary is vast. :)

  • Wow his english is really good. I sense a english accent?

  • @PhoPhucLai02 i sensed that too, he's definitely speaking very British-ly!!

The vocab really is great! Solute!

  • wow he owns alot of those younger stars in the HK entertainment these days, whose english i can barely understand sometimes (see: ron ng).

btw, still handsome after all these years!

  • @lilaphrodite05 your mom is one lucky woman!!!

  • LOL why are people so fascinated by the fact he can speak English?

  • @0o0Nightmare0o0

hey is he the same actor in the movie "the lover"

  • @0o0Nightmare0o0 because for people from greater China, he seems to be a pure Chinese actor, he speaks only Cantonese or Chinese in films, no many people have seen reports about the fact that he can speak English especially such fluent English

  • @0o0Nightmare0o0 It's not the fact that he can speak English. It's the sophistication with which he navigated his conversation in a language other than his mother tongue. Damn impressive!

    He is the best.

  • he actually spoken English in few films in HK before

and he actually sound pretty nice in English :)

  • his seen tired and sleepy

  • almost flawless grammar and minimal HK accent.... i'm surprised. typical of actors from his era - Chow Yun Fatt, Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, etc - Leung wasn't very well educated and had a rather modest upbringing. i know he can speak but i don't expect him to be so fluent.

  • It is amazing that Tony can speak in English fluently. When the host asked him some questions, he could express his points without any hesitations. We can understand Tony how to interpret the character in 2046. Especially, he explained why he wanted to have a mustache in a new role which was not related to Clark Gable. Ha! To my mind, he looked like Clark. He is more handsome than Clark.

  • Ooo, sexy voice. =)

  • i like his movies.

  • I watch both movies "In a mood for love" and "2046", i don't understand it, very discontinuity!! Good camera shot though!!

  • a really simple and flurent english speaking...i like this...

  • i love tony.. he's so talented. He and the rest of the five tigers were such a big hit in the chinese movie industry. I've been watching his work for over 20 years

  • He seems like a bit of an introvert in real life but I love his old dramas - particularly the comedic roles. It's such a shame we don't get to see such classic actors from the 80s act in TVB dramas agin...

And wow, I am surprised with his fluency in english. It sounds way better than a lot of the younger HK stars - he's got a better grasp of the language (i.e. better vocab and accent).

  • @leloMew i love the duke of mount deer.

  • great job, his english is awesome

  • his smile is soooo.. eerrrr damn sexy and cute!

  • that is.. Luong Trieu Vy

  • Aww...I love how he's just like an elementary school boy in this interview. His facial expressions and all. Looks so innocent. And man, the way he smiles! =)

  • oh, his englis is good n he's naturally charming!

  • I love the way he talks and i love his accent! it's HOT.. :) Love Tony!!!!

  • I watched this movie. Very good casts. Tony Leung first time sexual encounter on movies I think. Had fell for him since I was at high school.

He speaks English fluently,it does matter, coz not many Asian stars speaking or understands it. Accent or no accent,he was born in HK, but speaks fluently English, that's all we need to know, thankyouverymuch.

  • His accent is very very different from an average hk person's. Did he grow up in a foreign country or studied abroad or something?

  • holy shit his english is good i didn't know he can speak english lol

  • sounds sorta british actually

  • I love him when he has a beard! :D

  • He is working on a new movie called The Grand Master and Ziyi Zhang will be in the film

  • why are people always talking shit about the accent? Arent there nothing for you all to talk about????

  • What, he CAN speak English???

Dang, Tony should be in Hollywood already

  • Oh my god he looks like my dad!! O.o;;

  • @lilaphrodite05 you lucky guy XD

  • @lilaphrodite05

    That's cool!.

    Maybe may be.

  • @lilaphrodite05 You're dad must be a stud.

  • @lilaphrodite05 he looks like my cousin lol

  • @lilaphrodite05 can i met your dad ?

  • Actually, it's not the accent that's the issue. Its his grammar and pronunciation. However, that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. But just as the fact that his pronunciation isn't perfect (which is why most people are categorized as having accents), why should anyone care about someone's accent being categorized perfectly? Especially when the comments were actually positive and supportive of him...?

  • lol he's Toisanese from Hong Kong so he speaks "British" English w/ a Cantonese flavor. Singaporeans kinda sound like that too.

  • @mephatboi VERY TRUE!!!

  • i never expected his english to be so great.

definetly belongs in the top 5 in actors in hk

  • he doesnt use to it for a proper interview, or can say he doesnt like so much

  • Tony speaks with a little bit cute Brit accent~~

  • LOL, I thought him looking so serious when the guy was asking the question was very cute....

  • doesnt he look like an asian Justin Long? they look alike abit.maybe the smile

  • 英文说的比我想象中说的好, 香港的演员大部分的都马马虎虎。

Not bad Tony not bad indeed

  • He sounds British, even though he's not.

  • he looks so stressed

  • haha british accent..! pls PLS make an american movie!

  • I love Tony Leung..but he will always be Brother SIngf to me ..Comet Sword & Butterfyl is my all time favorite film with him ~_~.

  • Have to agree w/ minghan05 there! However, I'm from HK educated there and this is the very first time I'm hearing him speak English. He has a perfect HK English accent:) a blend of brit/american & cantonese tone! Btw, the few within his age group all speak excellent English as they have all gone to do International Movies.

He is one of the few HK artist that I enjoy watching.

  • @curls68

Yeah, most foreigners whos english is not their first language have accents. Even for the ones who do speak good english. Its natural. Theres nothing wrong with accents. His enlgish is terriifc.

  • Loved Tony ever since I saw Hard Boiled when I was in eigth grade! His English accent is tripping me out cause I'm so used to hearing him in Chinese. It's almost as if someone else is speaking through him! @_@

  • don't get why people are surprised at his command of the English language. Almost everyone speaks English in HK nowadays, at least that's the impression i was given anyway. well at his generation and especially the ones below him.

    great actor.

  • his english is excellent!never knew he speaks such good english!!amazing!!

  • Chinese actors always tend to be very soft spoken, maybe it has a lot to do with having to speak in a second language

  • Good example; A foreigner who has learnt British English.

    We need more like him.

  • his command of English is brilliant! I've loved his movies since I was a young kid!

  • I`d do him in a second!

  • Why r u people so obsessed with his accent?! Who cares if people speak English with an accent?! And What's wrong with having an accent anyway? It makes the world more interesting.

No one here is actually interested in what he has to say? It's just his accent that interests u?

& By the way, What the hell is a British accent?? There r hundreds of different accents in the UK. Which one r u talking about? I guess most Americans probably think there r only 2 accents in the UK, The Queen's & Cockney.

  • errr, wtf he can speak english, i neverknew that

  • Tony leung you are really good!

  • Love love love Tony Leong

  • I love Tony Leung! My favorite actor!

  • HERO !!

  • Tony Leung, one of my favorite actors. By far one of the best actors in the world.

  • some people are born to have the gift to learn language but this doesn't mean they are smart. lots of hong kong people judge people by the language they can speak. if someone can speak fluent english, they think these people are smart. they respect and admire them . this is stupid!!!there are many talented , smart and wealthy people can speak little or no english but their achievement are much better than those speak fluent english

  • Yeah his english accent sounds like somebody else. His English is excellent. Actually I noticed that in that horrid GI Joe movie Lee Byung-hun sounded totally different aswell (to the extent that I was convinced he was dubbed).

  • seriouly, he speaks better than many college students in hk! and surprisingly, he doesn't havw a strong hk accent.

  • He speaks quite well actually. I am surprised

  • @Billywong

Shouldn't be surprised: Hong Kong was a British colony for over 100 years. So it's bilingual to begin with.

Other than that, he has a nice smile.

  • He is so sweet.

  • I watched some of his more 'obscure' movies growing up, but it wasn't until I watched Infernal Affairs that I realised he's actually a great actor.

  • Jackie chan needs to take a lesson from this guy about speaking slowly.

  • So cute!

  • his english is surprisingly good :)~ impressive !!!

  • Szetze: you are totally wrong with your comments about HK actors not being well educated. Maggie Cheung was actually educated in the UK. Many HK actors and actresses are multi-lingual (Cantonese, Mandarin, English, etc.). Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, etc. are all expert martial arts experts.

  • movin up in age! english certainly has improved too

  • he is sooo hot.

  • "Woman predator" "Cynical Playboy"

    His vocabulary is so vast!

  • Cut him slack my 美国/中国 人 friend.

I think his vernacular is astute. He is a fine actor.

  • his english is better than most HK'ers today... i should know.. i visit hk 3-4 times a year.. my uncles english.. aint good as tony lueng..

  • hes really well behaved and soft spoken in a charming way

  • in the beginning of this video i thought he had spoken fluent english with british accent lol

  • he really seems like a humble/ nice guy,,, he has this childlike smile... its cute....

  • just love it when he smiles. :D

  • Tony is one of the greatest actors of his generation.

Those HK film fans among us have known that for a long time. But it's awesome that he's finally being acknowledged for his great roles.

  • The interviewer has an accent when he tried to pronouce the Chinese names. LOL.

  • It's strange that people say he speaks English with an accent. For god's sake, everyone speaks English with an accent. There is no such thing as English with no accent. Americans speak english with an american accent, Uk ppl with a brit accent, japanese with a japanese accent, and indian with an indian accent. Of course, those educated in other intl schools or abroad will acquire that country's accent. It's the accent that gives us away when we speak and an identity /background that ppl guess.

  • @minghan05 I think it just depend what is the most popular accent!!! American accent seem more popular than others, so people use that a standard. But i agree with u!!!...as long as ur english grammar, structure and understanding. it should be fine.

  • i dont get it how does american hav a english accent when its official their language?

  • @qkiml3 american will never have an english accent cos only Brits has english accent, although english is their official language but it was borrowed from the Brits.

  • @minghan05 what they meant was he speaks like a native person rather than a foreigner.

  • @minghan05 100% agree. I remember Tony once said "If one day Tom Cruise speaks Chinese with a Chinese accent, I would be shocked!"

Now if Tony speak English with an American or British accent, wouldn't it feel weird?

  • @minghan05 um i think when people mention that he has an "english" accent, they mean British accent. Since Britain and the UK is also known as England. so there's no need to get worked up about it.

  • @minghan05 dude.....let it be, those people suffer in their internal nightmare of not being unique daily and you are going to bring them down by smashing up this chance of theirs to worship their "not so fluent and good but better then most non english speaker's) english speaking skills of theirs?

  • @minghan05 good point people from espically east hava inferioty complex for western language speaking english in a american or brit accent is such a big thing for them so, thats why they critsize if they hear foregn accent no matter how much perfect gramer that person uses...

  • @minghan05 seeing as england is the origin of english, i'd say english people speak english without an accent... except scousers

  • @minghan05 Very true. Also, Hong Kong was controlled by Britain for a period of time which greatly influenced the HK people to speak English with a British accent. If you listen carefully you can hear a slight Brit accent in his speech.

  • His English is really OK. He's a F.5 graduate. Much much better than today's F.5 standard! (even better than many U-grad students today)

  • better than all americans.

  • what a remarkable actor

  • he was amazing in lust, caution. i would never expect him to have a British accent. he captures my heart.
