  • At 4:38 did he say, "Interesting; I could 'defo' use this"?

Wow, everything else aside, even the slang was accurately predicted.

  • read the comments B 4

    5 and 6 years loool

  • This is set in September 2011. In October 2011, we got Siri.

  • Hay, the kettle and the table lamp are Richard Sapper's design.

  • Facetime,Siri, and iPad. Seems to be going on track.

  • Siri :)

  • Maybe, Siri is start from this!

  • iPhone 4S (:

  • Not bad for 1985.

  • this is a load of garbage

  • Webcam. Check

    Mobility. Check

    Pad format. Check

Natural Language Voice interface (Siri). Check

  • @Shinobubu at 2:48 you can cleary see he is putting in a card while he asks to save data.

    So, SD card support. fail

  • Amazing apple envisioned this 24 years ago ( a tablet and voice assistant siri) although it was yelled and ridiculed at that time but it sure has presented the same now... I am proud of apple :)

  • So is this Siri's future?

  • Apple really had its' vision. Now there IS a tablet similar to this currently.

  • Siri

  • watch, Apples going to make an exact replica of this commercial in the future.

  • What i would do for one of those

  • I'm missing the whole 2011 prediction part, where is it?

Someone said they predicted a date for this which was 18 days off the Siri release.

When is that in the video?

  • @dedpxl he says pull up some research from 5 years ago, then the research he gets is from 2006......

  • I hope Siri evolves into this.

  • Too bad Apple had fired Mr. Jobs at this time, we may have seen iPad/siri much much sooner, but instead we saw Toy Story.... A fair trade!

  • TouOS + Siri + Tablet, in 1987? Pretty adv thinking. Awesome. Shows Apple's success didn't come overnight.

  • Voice recognition? Yeah, right. I bet IRL people just hire assistant from some developing country like Pakistan...

  • @ArchSaur I'll check if my iPhone have little Indians in them. Oh wait I found some Big Endians instead!

  • @Shinobubu Really? I thought ARM architecture is little-endian.

    In any case, did you know Siri requires Internet connection because it sends all the voice data to Apple servers and gets responses from there? You should look for little indians in Apple datacenters (-;

  • recycle bin!

  • '' huh, dinner, right.''

WHERE WE'RE GOING, WE DON'T NEED DINNER!

  • Will Apple have another futureshock thanks to the passing of Steve Jobs?

  • Super! Шикарно!

  • Siri and I-Pad in 1987? Whoa!

  • lol siri!

  • IPAD & SIRI!!! :O

  • thats the ipad and siri lol

  • jaja, lo de llamadas a celulares no lo tuvieron imaginado :)

  • they got it so right

  • Welcome siri!

  • The funny thing is.

    Apple were completly right.

ALL this technology is available now. But almost no-one uses it.

  • That's weird. Surely they didn't have a business plan this far into the future in 1987.

  • siri

  • How can you say that this is a "prediction of the future" ... if they had the concept, THEN, they obviously STILL HAVE THE FUCKING CONCEPT idiots.

  • duck tape it to the face of a blowup doll and the human race will go extinct lol... seriously though, when is this coming out, this looks like an old video.

  • scary

  • wtf this is nothing like that siri piece of crap. why is everyone saying it is siri.

  • @mkr10001 actually much of the siri technology and what apple has built on to it, like it talking back and giving you your meetings, and the like, is very much like this.

This concept has been around for a long while though. This is a little more advance, as for some reason it has the visual image.

But this video is showing 2025 or some such, so there is a few years off yet.

  • crazy how accurate it was to the date. Funny thing is that when i look at FUTURE things in movies i am like oh that is sooooo cool, but when the come around in RL, they look soooo much more sexier. that ipady thing is not anywhere near as sexy as iphone 4s or ipad 2

  • Olha a cabeça desse cara... Ele pensou num "ipad 10" em 1987. Sinistro.

  • Siri played by Bill Nye, the Science Guy.

  • Actually, the twist here is this is from John Scully, not Steve Jobs. But most fanboys won't have a clue.

  • @sickofgod69 They're both pricks anyways.

  • iproducts aren't original, think for yourselves

  • I remember showing this video as part of a corporate IT decision-makers conference when it was first released. The general concensus back then could be described as "Yeah right..." I belived it would happen. HP did a similar one a couple of years later.

  • this would be great on the ipad 2

  • VAY ANASINA .Bütün bunlar 1987 yılında mı çekilmiş? Yok bu bir pixar oyunu .Bu kadar hayalin gerçekleşmesi ...acaip bir şey .titredim ama ...Adam bir kanal bulmuş ve onu an be an nasıl geliştreceğini planlamış diyebilirim sadece.

  • is that bob saget?

  • Pssh Siri doesn't have a bowtie.

  • Siri!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Siri?

  • How come this is made in 1987 when they talk about John Fleming article earthside from july 20 - 2006 ?

  • @Ode817 ..Its a FUTURE vision. WTF?

  • @Ode817

Use your brain man. This is a future vision from 1987, how they think the future will be in 2011:D

  • Comment removed

  • @Vegaredo the future sucks, that's how it is

  • Holy moly! Is that Mark Zuckerberg with a fuckin BOWTIE?

  • @11088258 I thought it was Bill Nye the Science Guy!

  • @11088258 i thought it was Bill Nye from the thumbnail... sorely disappointed.

  • @11088258 unlikely - he was 3 years old at the time (born in '84, this was done in '87). Would've accepted Bill Nye as a guess, though ;-)

  • @11088258 no thats bill nye

  • Ha! They thought people would still care about Amazon deforestation in 2011.

  • @waltarrrrr sad, this should be downvoted.

  • This is disgusting, I really do hope for another future.

  • I think it was Hugh Dubberly's idea, actually.

  • IPAD?

  • Jarvis?

  • @ih8music i would say that this is the stupid iPhone 4s not an iPad... steve deserve credits for his ideas... and he made the stocks double they're worth which made me a very wealthy man... <3 steve

  • @ih8music The mouse or the GUI was neither his idea allthough he had the ability to make reality of dreams. This was also a dream (no matter that someone else's). He liked it, he believed in it and he could die with having a dream come true. Totally true, just announced before the day he died. That makes him special.

  • @ih8music It is all about execution, not dreams.

  • @ih8music looks like you read wrong because it said Apple's not Job's SMH (people love to jump to conclusions)

  • @phily76003 I was referring to comments here & elsewhere about how much of a visionary Jobs was to have predicted this particular technological breakthrough. He did plenty, but this idea wasn't his.

  • Star Trek TNG's computer was closer to this than Siri is.

  • I want Bill Nye as my Siri assistant on my iPhone!

  • RIP Steve

  • I just hope that unlike Walt Disney who isn't cryogenically preserved, they're keeping Steve Jobs body and brain intact somewhere very safe until we find a way. He'll be back.

  • Per Andrew Sullivan: The date indicated in the video is said to be Sept. 2011 - off by a month for the release for Siri & Iphone 4S except the video was made... "In 1987, Apple released this concept video for Knowledge Navigator, a voice-based assistant combined with a touchscreen tablet computer. ... So, 24 years ago, Apple predicted a complex natural-language voice assistant built into a touchscreen Apple device, and was less than a month off." Amazing! RIP Steve
  • Bowties were cool even in 1987.

  • Well played Apple. Well played...

  • R.I.P. Steve

  • Awesome in all ways except leaving it on the desk to go to lunch. Most of us would rather go toothless than leave our mobile computing device behind.

  • Rest in peace

  • Siri

  • My bet, in 15 to 20 yrs. A Watson computer in your iPhone would do this job.

  • Boring.

  • ...were is the time machine ?

  • Siri isn't quite this smart yet but it's well on its way. Cool how this video anticipates both Siri and the iPad...

  • was that Billy Nye talking on the tablet?

  • 15 people are Microsoft fanboys. =p

  • No mamessssssss steve y Apple vienen del futuro o son estraterrestres todos

    Wuaooooooo

  • Basically the iPad 2 with ios5 and siri. Pretty spot on tech demo (minus the design of the tablet and gui)

  • Okay, everyone relax. It's not Siri. Nothing has this level of speech recognition, except maybe the IBM Watson, and that isn't exactly tablet sized.

It's a good concept, and yeah the touch screen and videochat and data sharing were all good predictions, but Apple wasn't the only ones making those predictions at the time either.

  • This thing was invented without Jobs' participation. I hope Apple will be not less visionary than in 80's with Tim Cook.

  • @yaroslavkhnygin Steve Jobs was definitely involved in siri. They purchased Siri over a year ago... Go search "Steve Jobs Full Interview @ 2010 D8 w/Mossberg Pt 4" he basically talks about their reasons for buying siri. They wanted to implement a voice system in the iPhone but they waited until they got the formula right (like copy paste, folders, etc) they bought Siri because of the company's experience in AI and voice recognition software

  • @WeEatBrainz I didn't try to dimish Jobs' achievments. I was talking about Knowledge Navigator, not Siri, and I wanted to say that Apple could innovate without Jobs. So I hope it won't stop to innovate with the new CEO and it won't fall apart with no Steve in charge.

  • @yaroslavkhnygin Or do you mean this concept thing. Apple was definitely far worse without steve jobs. There were some good ideas (heck, even the newton could've been a good idea) but without steve nearly every product they released failed and they weren't growing. Steve Jobs had the vision that guided apple through the past 10+ years of innovation. He understood where technology was going, what the consumers wanted and the true purpose of their products. Tim Cook is just an average ceo

  • @WeEatBrainz Also I think Macintosh II, Macintosh Quadra AV, Newton and PowerBook were really successful products during the 1985-1997 era.

  • @WeEatBrainz

Seems that Steve was JUST a salesperson.

Thats not vision, thats just marketing.

The engineers were the ones making the leaps and bounds, NOT Steves.

PS - anyone notice that even here they were joking about the C02 hype?!

  • Android users have been enjoying this functionality for a whole good year before the prediction of this video. Besides there is years of work to do on voice tech & Artificial intelligence before they reach this level.

    love the 80's looking tablet

  • This can't possibly be from 1987. Yahoo didn't even exist until 1994. It's more likely it dates from around 1997.

  • Don't forget that Apple bought this technology with it's big money from someone else and did not invent it.

  • They were off in their prediction by only 18 days. Wow.

  • Funny they really use these animations today in Cocoa.

  • So THAT'S what Bill Nye the Science Guy has been up to lately...

  • @taevans1 i thought the same exact thing. that is awesome

  • The guy in the bowtie looks like Mark Zuckerberg.

  • i'm seeing this video because of SIRI … amazing !

  • On October 4, Apple will introduce iPhone 4S. And you'll see why 2011 will be exactly like 2011.

  • لا يمكن ما اصدق ابل توقت منتجها سيري من عشرات السنين

  • Siri on IPhone 4S is only in its first stages. It will improve over time to what is fully seen in this video. Apple had this vision 25 years ago!! Thats amazing, who knows what else they already have planned for the future

  • Apple nailed it 24 years later with the Siri, but sadly couldn't predict 2011 research topics for the professor like:

"the effects of CO2 emissions outside of USA and China" or

"the effects of burning radioactive waste outside of Japan"

    Oh well.

  • it looks like an ipad . -.-

  • I find the guy kinda sadistic, like he's just about to go murder a prostitute or something

  • forever alone

  • They even kept the "Birthday for Dad" story line in the Siri promotions.

  • He looks like he wants to fucking kill himself.

  • Notice at 2:00 He mentions that the year the book is published 5 years ago is in July 20, 2006, which puts the date to 2011. Present time, when Apple actually releases the product.

    Irony.

  • thumbs up if siri sent you here!

  • thumbs up if siri sent you here!

  • thumbs up if siri sent you here!

  • thumbs up if siri sent you here!

  • Wow, really cool! It makes me wonder if Apple has carried this vision all the way through to today, implementing it in the form of Siri (and then likely improving its features over time).

  • *most* impressive

  • Is that Bill Nye??

  • @koszahoudini That's what I thought too! :P

  • This is dead on with Siri assistant on the iPhone 4S.

  • @matt009817 Are you kidding me? Siri performs minor tasks no more. It has no analytic engine of it's own. Deluded apple heads.

  • Comment removed

  • Had to find this video. I remember it from a long time ago. In the keynote for the iPhone 4S that just happened, Tim Cook announced Siri which made me think of this video. We are getting close to this scenario with iPads, Facetime, and Siri.

  • hahaah this means it's in 2011. nice job apple at predicting the future

  • Bet by tomorrow this will have like a million views.

  • @Skordan nope. only 202k

  • @xshadowspherex Wow, it went up to 212k in one hour! :)

  • @elijah5791 Andrew Sullivan linked to it on his blog.

  • Bill Nye the Science Guy?

  • Esto que vemos se hará realidad mañana...

  • im sorry I idk what I was thinking.

  • Forever a bot.

  • Good but why does it say during the last 20 years 2010?

  • @matt009817 Because it was made in the 80s and set in 2010?

  • Geez this is gonna be huge after Tuesday's announcement of the next iPhone: "Let's talk iphone" is meant as a person saying': "iPhone, let's talk". It's gonna be huge!!!

  • It would be nice if academic articles were free for people to view and not locked down by crippling fees which price them out of the reach of the unaffiliated scholar.

  • It's just an old fashioned iPad with iOS 5's Siri voice recognition. I would say, that a dream is about to become true.

  • Lol too bad that the iPad is many years away from true multitasking like this ;)

  • Can someone kick up the 4d3d3d3?

  • @laxalert Sorry, made a typo--LOL

  • And to think, lol this stuff looks outdated in this day and time but back in those days it was considered advanced.

  • I dont know if you guys got it, but this was not more than 13 years ago, but 23.

  • Twenty three years and still far from there.

  • Awesome portrait of the potential for computers to be Artificial Assistants (especially good considering this was more than 13 years ago)

I found this on a great article reviewing the history of Apple's computing legacy at

    bit.ly / cCtA6n

  • I enjoy seeing the vision and direction from thirteen years ago.

  • @LelandHendrix: This was from 1988. Not sure how you calculate 13 years?

  • I'd rather have this than a pretentious iPad.

  • +5 for the original Mac boot chime. hahahahaha

  • The iPad COULD do it, if you connect it to your webcam using Bluetooth and Skype...

  • Microsoft ripped this off for its Courier concept.

  • I love how we don't have the talking guy, but our webcams are like 5 times smaller then that, computers are thinner--but folding screens are still only in development, and our interfaces look like 10 times better. it's so funny how predictions of the future are always either not advanced enough or too advanced.

  • iPad?!

  • Ipad can't do it because it doesn't have web cams...

  • Apple's Vision of the future as seen from the 80's

  • Only problem: That's not "Brazil" at all. That's a map of the whole South America.

  • Little did they know that the majority of the wow effects of the video would actually be delivered by something not even connected to hardware (i.e. Google). The iPad is nice hardware, but it is Google that allows document collaboration, video conferencing, and now public data graphing.
