  • This is a classic. NO one did it better than Curtis. No one.

  • I just love this song! Can't get enough of it. I have loved this song since I was 10 years old, 32 now, still love it!

  • Herb Kent...WVON

  • I love this song. It takes me way back.

  • for all of you who love this song check out the jamaican rock steady version.Punch up THE UNIQUES GYPSY WOMAN. It is sung by the great jamaican singer Slim Smith. And you know what? It cuts the Impressions version. Dont get me wrong. The Impressions deservedly had a big hit and its really great. But the Uniques' version is out of this world. Its yearning quality is almost palpable and the singing is so agonizingly beautiful its almost impossible to describe. What a amazing singer Slim Smith is.

  • This one will always be the best! Brian had no richness to his voice, to hollow.

  • Timeless...

  • I like the Brian Hyland version better. It has more of a gypsy sound and beat to it.

  • one of the greats.... i still sing this song...in my jukebox

go to doowop nite and get lost with the guys thanks

  • with my lady doing 120 MPH in a 69 dodge charger through the desert @ 1:28

  • Love this song.

  • Damn, did Obama's dad sing with the Impressions! LOL!

  • Nothing like the original song. The remakes just don't make it.

  • the gypsies of eastern europe wouldn't let curtis sang no other song they just went crazy . i heard he song this song three time in a roll in the 80s in spain.

  • ga,zo,slapen,,ik,hoor,niets

  • Covered on a Curtis Mayfield tribute cd by Bruce Springsteen. I grew to like it +had no access to original then,

This sounds amazing, I have that gut connection every time I hear the original, and I was sad at his passing.

  • Wow i love this song by Curtis!!! Thanks for the post TheRunner75

  • This is such a beautiful song, Curtis was such an incredible songwriter. He made you see and comprehend what he saw in his mind.

  • I was 9 years old when this was released, and I just can't stop playing and singing this song. Many thanx to Brian Hyland, Major Lance, Bruce Springsteen, Carlos Santana, Bobby Womack, Boz Scaggs, Jimi Hendrix, and a host others whose covers have only added to this song's appeal! God bless you and keep you . . . . .

  • when this song was released, the Gypsies of Eastern Europe tried every way possible to

bring the Impressions to their part of the world to sing this tune. In 1981, Curtis Mayfield

and his band, sans the Impressions, gave a series of concerts in Eastern Europe, to the delight of the local populations of that region. Whether you like this version or not, it shows the beauty and attraction that good music has everywhere!

  • @waaziz2008 What a beautiful story. One of the greatest songs I've ever heard. Top 50 ever for me. A lot of work and love went into this or maybe it was first take stuff. Either way it's so beautiful. I hate to see the lady go or the world not knowing that this band and Curtis loved you all.

  • @waaziz2008 Wow! I didn't know that story about how the Gypsy people loved this song! Thank you for sharing it!

  • Classic Impressions masterpiece! RIP Curtis Mayfield.
