  • Sounds like Gregg Baker.

  • I recall seeing the great Eartha Kitt in "Timbuktu"!

  • thanks for sharing....i was born too late to witness a performance like this live. Puts all west end performers here in the UK to shame.

  • @baronochs You're welcome! I still see Mr. Hawkins on US TV shows now and again. He's still got that voice and presence. I miss Eartha a lot. Did see one "West End" show back in the "old days!" I suppose it starred many people, one was a friend of the family who played "Joe." The most memorable, to me anyway, was the lady who played "Julie." She was Cleo Laine, and was superb in the role. I used to have the cast album, but somebody pinched it! Best regards!

  • @varadero1839 Another terrific clip! Continued thanks, varadero! But again, please forgive me, but this is not Ira Hawkins in the clip. It is Gregg Baker, who took over the role in NY & on tour. Not only is Baker's voice unmistakable, but his significant height is just as impossible to miss. The choreography for this number was actually adapted to accommodate the fact that he could raise Eartha over his head, while Hawkins did not enjoy that same height advantage. Thanks again. Continued Best!

  • @operasanger Hi operasanger! You're undoubtedly right on this one. I know that people in this cast jumped around frequently. I only had an ancient "hand-held" 8mm clip to go by, and what is the original Playbill from the show. Ashamed that I didn't recognize Mr. Baker! I've got 2-3 other clips of his up here, dating from much later in his career. Wish I could reach you; your account is not available! Either way, thanks for your kind comments, and will make the clarification soon. Best to you!

  • @varadero1839 Hi again varadero! PLEASE DON'T beat yourself up over any mislabeled clips! Look at the remarkable job you've done of posting so much that no one else has! I & so many others here, including the artists themselves, are in your debt, my friend! So if you happen to have the occasional "oops" in your attributions, you're entitled. I just noticed the Gregg Baker/Ira Hawkins & the Gilbert Price/Bruce Hubbard "oops" from "Timbuktu!" because I have particular knowledge of that show. Best!

  • THis was the first time I ever saw Eartha in person...And I didn't even know who she was. But I do remember she WORKED this part!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How can I ever thank you? (Frequently)

Is there a DVD available of Timbuktu?

  • ive waited years to see this legendary performance. thanks for sharing! eartha forever!!!

  • You're welcome! Thanks for your comment. Eartha rules!

  • 'Tis sweet with the meat of the lichee nut, O Vardero1839!
