i also have fireline crystal but ive experienced that it frays a lot easier than any other i have used. i use power pro now and hoping to reel me in some nice pike this summer with white spinners. I also use an Abu Garcia rod/spinning reel. but great tips, thanks for sharing.
Braids never done much for me, even if it's the strongest braid out there you're proper donald if it starts to fray on you (which is quite easy even in moderate weed). I'd get a good brand of mono (15lb+), 8ft carbon rod and an Abu baitcaster. Casts better too in my opinion, should hold a decent fish. I'm from UK btw so you US might need stronger kit...
Don't mean to sound like an ass or anything, but your loosing more fish with your hook mod. Your loosing strength, accuracy, and potentially more pike. Bomber lures have designed the lure to have tri hooks. Otherwise they would have put on two hooks. Interesting line and rod combo. Personally I have a 7:1 high speed reel with a 6'6 med/heavy with 60lbs braid. Super strong!!! Good luck with pulling out those pike!
braid SUCKS im using 10lbs sufix and its snapped on me 2 x!! lures aint cheap. if i go higher test on a reel that recommends 10lbs mono, is that bad?
as a fellow pike angler i would like to know what would posses you to bend the hooks? it weekens the metal. what are you goin to do when you hook a 30 plus fish? oh and with tweleve pound test how do you stop the pike when they head to thick weeds or trees? prayer?
Hi Chris, great vid and tips thanks!. I love fishing for pike with a bait casting reel, do you use braid or mono? only reason im asking is whenever ive traid to use braid, i always end up with a massive tangle. Any tips? cheers, UK Piker
Thank you for taking the time to post this video, it is very much appreciated. I hope if you have time you'll post more. I'm a pike newbie and always looking for help!! Especially when fishing in the weed lines!!
@ProAnglers why in tournaments?? who cares ive caught 200lb tuna and 70lb wahoo..with just twisting on wire..and they fight way harder than a pike or muskie or any freshwater fish for that matter.
What your suggesting is true.... not arguing with you. We fish 25 tournaments a year and after 500 tournaments fished, we have established that the ability to switch baits quickly outweighs the need to create a simple solution. Outside of the tournament environment, I would agree with you.
I have best Abu vintage/Abu-Garcia rods, so don't need anymore-they are superb I firmly believe that the same casting and reeling-in principles, that apply to left hand fixed-spool reels (95% preferred) should apply to 95% of multipliers but it is the other way round!
- how I can give fishing a bad name over a technical issue?
I certainly agree with the premise but in the walleye world, 90% of all trolling is done with a bait casting reel (multiplier). Walleye Pro's use these reels because they're light weight and work well when trolling at 1.0 to 1.5mph. Most Pro's will have left hand and right hand retrieve in the boats to ensure they have the greatest flexibility. I normally use a left hand retrieve. However, I will use a right hand retrieve when trolling on the right side of the boat. Great comments!
Thx ProAnglers. I do have another comparison to make though. I believe that
the majority of fly-fisherman, CHOOSE a lefthand wind reel.
Fly-fishing reels, are drum -shaped (like a flattened multiplier!) so yet again, I beg the question, why the world dominance of right-hand multipliers?
my answer lies in my previous comments
I ADMIT though, I do have ONE RIGHTIE
multiplier!
I will consider using it as you recommend for trolling right side of boat!
i think u shud make a video about lure selection for pike or bass. Color, sice and maybe where to fish it. It woud be great for me becouse i try to catch some slow pike here in Norway.
srry but i hate wire leader with a passion. instead, for a leader i use a very high test braided with very low dia.(usally spider wire). granted its a safe bet to change this leader after every fish(pike) u catch, but the pro is more realistic lure or bait movement catching those shy and some times even bigger fish....(its a secret dont tell anyone now will yea...)
Is it a sin to use spinning reels for Pike? Or should we really be using a baitcaster?

just twist on a wire leader u dont need clips.haywire twist
5tonyvvvv 1 year ago
We need the swivels for big fish and you need the clips for fast bait change over. In a tournament yuo may change baits on a rod 20 times in a day.
Outside of the tournament environment, you're correct. They're not really needed.

Oh my God! Oh My God!
Did I just see, did I just see, or am I dreamin?/Christ tell me?
Is that an American guy, who behind all trhe hook trimmin and bendin?
Is actually going to use a LEFT-HAND
wind multiplier?
Well if it is, let the lord be praised, for over 40 years of USA idiocy on producing
only right hand multipliers
forgive them-they just wanted to be original
but lost millions of $..........llars for this total con
darkmossie633 2 years ago
Well, there are two things that you could do to get a left hand multiplier.
1) Some rods are interchangable, so you could just switch it over.
2) You could stop buying rods at Wal Mart and order/buy one from a real store, like Bass Pro Shops.
And stop whining. You give fishing a bad name.
discodarth 2 years ago
dont understand your replies 1) and 2)
as I'm talking about multipliers, not RODS
I don't buy rods at WAL MART never heard of them
I have best Abu vintage/Abu-Garcia rods, so don't need anymore-they are superb I firmly believe that the same casting and reeling-in principles, that apply to left hand fixed-spool reels (95% preferred) should apply to 95% of multipliers but it is the other way round!

Sorry about last two lines -had to edit for 500 word limit
just to add, I was actually complimenting you! Sorry if I was sarcastic in my first note, but I feel very strongly about the
crazy US. (PENN for example) obsession with right-hand multipliers?
What is the ADVANTAGE of a right-hand multiplier over the normal cast of left-hand fixed-spool?-I mean the same principle applied to multiplier?
An ex-ABU worker told me it was an
American idea, just to be different?
People just accepted it
darkmossie633 2 years ago
PS.
I have 5 left-handed multipliers ty, so I don't have to change hands after casting, as you do UNNECESSARILY, with right-hand multipliers
darkmossie633 2 years ago
I have both right and left hand reels. This allows me to troll or cast in tight area on each side of the boat.
ProAnglers 2 years ago
I take your point, but multipliers are
predominately used for casting, not trolling
-no-one has ever been able to give me a good reason, to answer the question
that how come 95% fixed-spool reel
users (the most natural way to cast and retrieve most fixed-spool users prefer) want to change to right-hand retrieve multipliers?
I know the manufacturers have now woken up to this fact, but they must have
lost millions of "dollars" in sales over the last 40 years
even Abu fell for it!
madness

darkmossie633 2 years ago
We lefthand multiplier users are rather
patronisingly, described like deviants
from the acceptable norm, as "LEFTIES"!! LOLLLLLL!
Well RIGHTIES, get a lefthand retrieve
multiplier, and your arms won't ache after an hour's casting ( a TRUE REPORT from
fishermen I have converted to the correct
lefthand retrieve, as with 95% majority of fixed-spool reels users
PENN, you make great multipliers, but not one for LEFTIES?
