We love Kusturica in Czechia, too! And we're proud he studied at Prague's Film School FAMU. This movie was such a hit I went like 4 times to see it. Still don 't get tired of it. The energy never stops!

Wow, I didn't watched this movie when it was out 10 years ago and watched it at last tonight on Bulgarian TV. Big mistake. It's a must-see movie for everyone born in the Balkans.

Emir Kusturica is a master of taking something as real and ordinary as everyday's life (like the methods used for breaking the fuel embargo against Yugoslavia and the people involved into this "business") and turn it magically into thoughtfully crafted, exaggerated, surreal and even grotesque characters.

I think that it's a shame that people unfamiliar with the history and the culture of the Balkans may not draw exactly the thin line that separates the reality from the exaggeration and miss the some great moments underlined by the movie plot.
