Is there a DVR, like the Hauppauge gaming edition or whatever, that has HDMI input?I dont know all the right terms, but xbox with component cables, not so nice, when I use HDMI,same game, looks amazing, thats what I'd like to capture, thanks.:)
I'm planning to integrate the hd pvr into my pc but I'm hearing it will lag and also hearing you need some type of splitter to play the game in hd and record in hd ? Can anyone answer please .
Can someone Please confirm if Flash Media Encoder (FME) recognize the Hauppauge Colossus's input by itself without the need of using any other screen capturing programs. I would really appreciate if someone could this for me!
@WuLFie40 Ah thank you so much Wulfie40! I will definitely check into it and also subscribe to your channel. I am so upset with the black magic products right now. The intensity pro won't work on i7 cpu's :/ the intensity shuttle won't work on 1155 socket mobo's for i7, even if u have usb 3.0 onboard or via pci express.. and the newest intensity extreme is for macs only. just a heads up for anyone else looking to capture.. i think this is the way to go!
@WuLFie40 hey thanks for replying back. i got the colossus and it won't recognize in xsplit or flash media encoder. :( i don't understand!!! this stinks. it works in arcsoft and everything so it's not my inputs. i'm pretty sure i have the latest drivers. anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it?
About the 4th unpacking vid I've seen with someone grabbing the card without a wrist-strap. Thanks for the vid, but quit grabbing computer parts without being grounded, it's not nice.
@Dedalwedal As a matter of fact, you can! Of course, you can only record one at a time. but yes, you can have both plugged in at the same time. You can choose which device to record. Component or HDMI.
@WuLFie40 Awesome! I just got this bad boy today and Im excited. I can figure out how to connect my digital converter box though to watch local stations. Anyone here that can help? Im just using normal components from the DTV box. I just would like to watch local stations.
I want to record my Xbox 360 footage with the Colossus while playing on a PC Screen. So will it work if I have a Xbox component cable going from the Xbox to the Colossus and a component to hdmi cable going from the Colossus to my PC screen?
@supercockroach It MAY be possible. But the Hauppauge Colossus does something that the USB one cannot. That is record in HDMI. So if you want to toggle between HDMI / Component, it might be hard. I know in Showbiz it's defaulted to record Component, so you must change it everytime you restart your computer.
Also, why would you want to record using something else? Showbiz does it's job.. You can easily compress it afterwards using another program, if that is your aim.
@WuLFie40 Typically most shoutcasters/people will pipe their video through something like XSplit to give them the option of adding titling, watermarks and the like live. Either that or Flash Media Live Encoder to be able to record it straight into a streamable format.
@supercockroach I'm sure you can configure it to do that on something like Justin.tv. You can just set it to record the Showbiz window.. However I may not understand your question fully, because I have not used JTV. So, I apologize if I cannot fully answer your question.
Can it record my voice through a microphone line while I'm recording my online gaming? I know that It can record the video and audio of the game, but can it record my voice if I'm hooked up to a microphone? Is the software that it comes with able to do it, or is that a hardware issue? Thanks
@trxt3r It won't record your voice. It can record other people's voices if enabled thru the Preferences tab to play Voice thru Speakers and Headset. However you can record your own voice on your computer using a third party program such as Audacity or Sony Vegas.
So wait, I'm trying to word this as best as possible. So My tv has it's own channel for hdmi. And if my hdmi slot is already used how do I hook up my capture card to the hdmi if my xbox cable is there?? Can you kinda fill me in here? How does that exactly work??
@MadHouseAsylum I'm not an expert and not 100% sure but i think you would need a HDMI splitter from your xbox so that the output from the xbox can run directly into the TV and the other into your PC. You may be able to run through your pc but you may get some lag from the time it takes to run through the colossus. As i said i;m no expert but thats the way i would run it.
Sooo....if it records in component anyway isn't it kind of pointless? I mean I guess the positives are it's cheaper and you don't have to run it through USB(which I don't really know if using USB is a negative or not) but now that this is out I'm guessing the original PVR price will go down =P
@TheDillsterr In theory, yes. But it probably wont. Because the original can be used by someone who has their computer further away than just right next to their pc. And yes it has component, but also is the first capturing product by Hauppauge to use HDMI. And that is also a big selling point. I bought it because it was the right price and right time. Works great for what I use it for. I can even record Component from my PS3 and HDMI via X360. and not have to move wires. It's great
Hey man, help a clueless person out. I have a PS3 and use HDMI from it to my tV for gameplay. After I put that colossus in my computer, then what. Can you show a set up or explain. Thx
@altonkasey I cannot speak for the PS3 because I do not own one, I'm sorry. But I know Component cables will work just fine with the colossus in / out. I believe the PS3 has encrypted HDMI, therefore cannot be used with the Colossus' HDMI port.
@WuLFie40 Why? Why keep your shhh HD or SD Cable Box, junk, throw it away, build a HTPC does tons more. New mITX boards make it cheaper than ever. Use this with DirecTV HD boxes, again DVR's junk, slow and limited. DirecTV is just now allowing you to watch You Tube from the boxes. Also capture your HD games, ideal for both. Thinking about getting the HD-PVR since many people will end up with this and sell their USB boxes.

@Cajunomics It does. I've tried it before. But if you're looking into streaming, xSplit is world better than FME.
