Things are never that simple. You can't blame the sins of socialism for the economic problems of the 70s alone. Let's have a perspective:
What are the best examples in the world of a socio-economic politics? In my opinion, and arguably not just my opinion. Norway and Denmark! They are socialists and are living well for the last 40 years! One can say it's because they have small populations... so lets decentralize government for God's sake!!
Thom, you are economic illiterate and a PHD in homeopathy doesn't mean you have an educated opinion. Keynesianism has once again been a proven failure and Obamanomics along with Reaganomics are both massive failures. Hoover is the furthest thing from free markets and tried to get Harding to interfere into the Depression of 1920 and thankfully he didn't. You should look up Hoovers New Deal of 1932 to see his real policies.
@bonfirejovi Friedman was the failure. His Free Trade drunes and the US CHamber of Commerce act like Free Trade is the greatest gift from god but they always bitch about the results.
This guy is funny. He must of loved the Bush admins policy of handing out everyone checks so they could go shopping. If you wanted government policy that stimulated consumption then Bush and Obama are your candidates.
@Teralek That was tried in 1970s Britain and we got the winter of discontent, stagflation, the dead were not buried because of grave digger strikes, labour union monopolies etc... Oh ya and we had to beg the IMF to bail us out. That is what socialism gets you... humilialtion. As Thatcher said "the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples money". Oh ya and she increased the size of the Welfare state before you go on about that.
@TheDecidicator What the fuck are you on about? Coolidge and Harding are responsible for the roaring 20s and a far cry from that racist segregationist Wilson who left them with a post war depression that Harding corrected in less than a year and gave way to most prosperous decade in US history.
Hoover and the Federal Reserve caused the Great Depression and FDR prolonged it and Truman ended it by eliminating almost all of FDR New Deal plans.
@bonfirejovi I think the real idiots are the 4 million people who haven't had a job in the last two years and will soon be out on the street or living off friends or relatives. They should've been taking care of business & making sure the government didn't run amok. FDR saved this country. Without his leadership we would still be hawking apples on a street corner for a nickel.
Obama's not done. He's still may cause the Greatest Depresion!
So, I guess someone having a different opinion than yours make them a 'hack job', 'right wing', whatever. Juan Williams is one of the more moderate voices for the right, but for you, anyone on that side is demonized and painted as extreme. This is because you view your side as the standard and anything outside of that as abberrant because it doesn't fit your template. The view count here tells the story of the public's appetite for more shrill, one-sided rhetoric. 1st impressions count...
Michelle Bernard and the IWF are a joke.

Another eight months of Obamanomics and the word "job" will be stricken from the American vocabulary.
Obama following Bush is like Hoover following Coolidge.
The only legal solution, vote them ALL out of office.

Thom always has a great show. And we shouldn't be surprised that the "corporate media" would lie and back the republican (corporatist) party....
Thanks for posting, we need more of his show and word to get out there.
