I am Vietnamese and I will never forget that the Khmer people had the greatest culture for thousand of years in this region. Thailand and Vietnam used to be right next to each other-like Laos and Hanoi but the evil Chinese keep invading our land so we never had the chance to develop the arts and build great temples. Vietnam's great misfortune is that we have the aggressive Chinese as neighbors who constantly harass us and try to teach us "lessons".
Hi! No it's not all about building great monuments and sculptings! It's the fact that they can yield three or four rice crops in one year! They are masters at irrigation systems and using the waters there to provide food for the rest of the population. During the 8th-15th century it was the biggest pre-industrialized city in the world!
@khmerpreah401 yes, very true. There were a lot of very smart Khmers in those days. So you guys also have the biggest territory in that region. In fact, Saigon, from what I understand, was originally Khmer, then become Champa, then become Vietnamese.
south east asia is abundant with buddhism heritage sites like angkor wat in cambodia sukhothai & ayuthaya in thailand, borobudur in indonesia, bagan in myanmar. worth to visit
lets be frank. first its a capital city. later it became a temple. only thing we shared was text such as sanscript. everything eles is absolutely khmer. the architecture and the myth of the celestial god. is our own myth. the god serve alot of countries back then. each of the culture have their own history but same god. therefore, its not base on hindu.
Reply to 08nickyJO: In Khmer, the language of the people of Cambodia, "Angkor" means "Great" and "Wat" means "Tenple". Thus Angkor Wat means Great Temple, not the Temple of Angkor as you thought. Similarly, the nearby ruins of Angkor Thom means Great City and not the City of Angkor.
my dad know 1 of the security guy, it his friend. he said because the thai peoples scratch the art of Angkor Wat like Apsara and other stuffff. few of them have go to jail already. that y they put security guy for save the art. some it thief that stole the statue.
here some more information "Many of the temples at Angkor have holes in them (right). These come from the space left from the poles use to put them in place. Over time the ends of the poles rotted away leaving holes." i get from website about angkor history. i hope u get it.
everytime before or just after something dies, I see a television program about Cambodia.
I visit the Reclining Buddha in Bangkok for the first time with my Cambodian buddy.
The second time I went to Wat Pho, on the way back to my apartment, on the Chao Phraya River express boat, I incredibly, accidentally run into my Khmer friend's brother!
keep in mind that they r poor, n besides i like angkor the way it is in a natural way. if u put sum tech security feature like cctv and alarm, it might lost it natural splendor...
this video looks pretty old notice that they didn't have the "girls" stairs to climb down from the top i just went last month it was awesome! its hard to believe that the angor wat was all hand made
Thank you for your vidio.Been there myself.Incredible feat of engineering and art The Khemers who engineerd this must have been highly intelligent indeed.

i got up the stairs, they are scary man.
they're narrow and steep and very high up
it was crazy
mhsux 4 years ago
The stairs in the center are closed due to a Korean tourist falling to his death last year, so I was told.

whoah geez
that really sucks
going on a holiday and dying
it nothing a healthy male can't handle, must have been a woman or an old person
actually i saw a coulple of oldish 50-60 people at the very top
i went June last year, so it must have been some time after that
it was really dangerous yeah, i'm surprised they didn't close it sooner
but you know what asian countries are like, they dont really care
mhsux 3 years ago
Are you kidding? I have climbed those stairs!
