I was at a Music trade fair in London in the mid 80's and Hanson was there. I'd never heard of him and for a second, I thought Jimi had been in hiding for 15 years. I stood and watched him demonstrate some kit (can't recall what) for 1/2 an hour. Totally gobsmacked me how authentic he is. You have to remember that there wasn't much footage available of Jimi back in those days as there is now, so to see some guy take him off visually/playing wise was incredible. Great to see he's still at it.
To me this is not an 'act' or 'tribute band' It's a serious exhibition and honest presentation of the music of Hendrix. Played true to the spirit and tone, and I'm glad Randy is doing it and more power to him!
This is awesome. He has Hendrix down fantastically. Randy''s been doing his for a while. I saw him perform in a little club in Taunton, Massachusetts in 1979. At the beginning of the show, he jumped out of a coffin an onto the stage holding a guitar and put on a great Hendrix tribute show. He played so loud that my ears were still ringing when I woke up the next morning. It was a night to remember!
Yeah, he sure is. Born in Seattle, just like Jimi too. Too many coincidences to be coincidental, I say. For examle: Al Hendrix, Jimi's father, donated some of Jimi's clothes to Randy so he can wear during his performances. Is that cool or what? It also adds more authenticity to Randy's act.
One more thing: if you like Randy, check out Steve Webb & EXP on YouTube. IMO, he and Randy are the two-best Hendrix tribute artists out there!
Randy also has his own music, and his show at Seattle Arena Haloween was awesome. I also saw him with Mitch Mitchell at local bar. Randy also did the Hendrix type guitar licks in the night scene where that one soldier was tripping in Apocalypse Now.
@rossbmarvin3rd ah so its randy that was playing on the radio in the Do Long bridge scene. by chance do u know the name of that song, coz from what u hear in apocalypse now, its sounds awesome!
Yeah!good work man..great tribute to Jimi, good play and feel..!please i want put a video response of my version of this song..but this is REALLY good!greetings from ITALIA!
Randy is really a great performer. Have seen him many times, he even wins over the skeptics who want to sit in the back with arms folded. Most shows end up with EVERYONE up front having fun. He's not taking it too seriously, just does a great job of the music and adds some fire from the moment to classic tunes...
Sorry to correct you guys but: He's Right Handed playing a left handed strat which is strung right handed. he knows his stuff too. Nice cool, raw and clean sound....i'm a lefty and have a right hander with a left hand neck...i can appreciate these guys and the way they get to the high notes with the unconventional setup...cheers.
If anyone wants to check out a RH original tune from 30 years ago I threw together a little RH slide show tribute... not tryin' to spam ya'll.. Go Randy Go!
Is that really all that important? But again, he is left handed he's one of the few that has their stronger hand on the neck as opposed to picking etc.
Buddy Miles gone, now Mitch Mitchell (yesterday, the 12th of November).
Though Mitch left this mortal coil, if you really think about, he is not 'really' gone. I refuse to believe this pitifully short existence on this third stone from the sun is all there is. No, it's not!
Mitch is now in another space and dimension reunited with former bandmates Jimi and Noel. What joy!
Featured performers include Leon Hendrix (Jimi Hendrix Brother), Randy Hansen, (World Famous Jimi Hendrix tribute), Goldy McJohn and Friendz, (founding keyboardist for the legendary rock band Steppenwolf), Roger Fisher (founding guitarist and songwriter for the band Heart) and other legendary musicians will be announced.
yes you are right about Mr.Hendrix (Al)gave Randy the thumbs up,I knew both Mr. Hendrix(Al) and know Randy and he also really liked Jimi's dad too. Al was very special person and had class and the same can be said for Randy. RIP AL-I miss his friendship today.
Im so jealous ..look at them AMPS ...holy crap ...i cant imagine the feedback and sustain he gets with all that power..just like the real jimi and srv
Curiously, it was not overly "loud". I was right in front of his two Marshall stacks, and my ears were not blasted out. He got most of his sustain and feedback by way of the floor monitors (I think).
The amps are Super Lead 100's (with a Hot Plate on the right amp), and the cabinets are 6x10's. Very cool.
I was lucky to get 5 complete songs recorded on my little Sony pocket camera. The memory ran out on Voodoo Child, but at a good stopping point, luckily.
Speaking of tricks, did you catch the "over the back guitar pick toss-catch" in one of the other videos? He did the trick often. One one instance, he missed the catch, and the pick landed in the grass in front of me. So I snatched it up before the crowd even noticed it! Nice souvenir. =D
And yeah, I have the same fantasy...to play LIVE...Hmmm.
The pick is a Dean Markley medium (white with black letters)...Sadly, no name on it. =(
I actually caught another one later, and handed it to the little rocker dude on my left. He was thrilled, but I could tell he was let down when he saw the Dean Markley logo.
did he give up on Jimi? He's more like a SRV clone here.

mvbeckril 2 years ago
Well if you're going to do a tribute, you should keep it real ...
Actually I was just joking. Randy is great. Why did YOU get so defensive? Is it really that important?
Jimi could play any guitar right or left handed, regardless of which way it was strung.
Can Randy do that? Huh?
Carus0e 2 years ago
you're missing the whole point of said conversation.... and my tribute is REAL a great song from his earlier days...
