  • He says our national anthem, I am an Omaha patriot and consider myself a citizen of the Omaha nation, not an Amerikkkan. Bin-laden is not justified for 9/11 but he is fighting an Imperialist, mass murdering, plundering, genocidal country called The United States, I do not condone death of any people.....The Iraq and Afhgan wars are genocidal 3 million non combatants murdered in Afghanistan and 2 million in Iraq!!!

  • i can dig it, alexie, i can dig it

  • Very True, how easy we forget about alot of what Mr. Alexie has said here...Because we are so self-absorbed in our pity little minds...and forget about the rest of the world..or our very own close family members....Scarey! We all need to wake-up, stop sleeping and become more AWARE!

  • i wish i had seen this at the time...quite a lovely speech....it's nice to see friendly comments for a change too! Peace

  • i read most of his stuff and he is on point

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • Truly a brilliant and open mind. I'm actually going to be doing a college report on him, so if anyone knows any good sources I can use please let me know.

  • So what happened sherman?

Any convictions left? Did you ever have any convictions?

  • He makes so much sense. Indeed: powerful.

  • Powerful!

  • Very touching and insightful.

  • "Listen to people's stories," is a powerful idea. Be part of the solution not a "regurgitater" of the problem.

  • Had to watch this for ENG class but Im glad I did, very interesting

  • sadly, it got so much worse.

  • He's speaks truth.

  • he's great.and he's right.

  • That was wonderful :D

  • Even if you think Alexies words are incisive or your saying "Amen brother" these words are very insightful and really get you thinking. This is great. Thanks for posting.

  • Yes yes, take off the blinders peeps...

Anger is such a base emotion that is so very easily manipulated, learn to personally control your anger and violent tendencies and be a healthier happier person.

  • May I also add that historically (at one point or other) the English were terrorists, the French were terrorists, the neighbor was a terrorist, the Natives were terrorists, the Germans were terrorists, the Japanese were terrorists, the Russians were terrorists, the Italians were terrorists, the Koreans were terrorists, the Cubans were terrorists, the Vietnamese were terrorists...I don't know about YOU, but I'm seeing a pattern here...

  • AMEN to 8:40

  • These are beautiful thoughts from a beautiful man. I wonder yet, if we're ready to hear and think them.

  • Incisive wit and wonderfully dry humour. We must all listen, think before we speak and live and love well.Thank you Sherman Alexie, when are you coming to the UK? My family and I will be at the show.May your Guardian Spirit be with you always.Warmest Wishes Gretchen in North Wales,UK.

  • I am a big fan of Mr. Alexie and I am sad to see anyone use this as a way to take cheap shots at someone else. Internet snipers. If you have real rationale for a position then share it. Personal attacks from the privacy of your online name is just sad. I have always lived by the ole saying, save your cussing for special occasions. "Fuckin rip off dork phony bastard" is not dazzling rhetoric.

  • In her defense, schlesinger777 wrote me personally to apologize for the harshness of her words.

  • Yes! alexie rocked on colbert! no doubt about that! natives should watch that shit and study it and see how a native can rock the shit up on national television. Still, the fuckface ain't shit compared to the king TARANTINO!!!! hear that shit fuk!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I should try not to be such a cunt. : ) Sorry for the cussing IBUSKEY. Again, please feel free to delete my demonic comments.

  • He came in spoke at my college last year. He's a very humorous man, he blends a variety of dark humor with cultural observations that results in amazingly briliant style of speaking.

And for schlesinger, Sherman Alexie is a very well respected writer and poet. Grow up.

  • Interesting. My first idiot comment for this video. It took almost 2 years. Not bad.

  • Study of violence, yes. A knee-jerk glorification of violence, certainly not. I chose not to "pull a censorship", as you so brilliantly put it, because Alexie's a warrior against intolerance and ignorance: the anti-Tarantino. I usually don't get the frothing at the mouth types here (mostly because of my attachment to that lifetime drama bullshit) but dissenting views are actually welcomed. Thanks for the diversion.

  • I can't wait.

  • sOo... im fortunate enough to be dating his nephew and personally meet he and his lovely family at an award ceremony here in Anaheim

CA> he's a brilliant writer, great friend, and extremely hysterical guy!!! great speech!!!

  • Really? That's wonderful! :D

  • i love him. he made me proud to live in the state of washington.

  • Great Wisdome!

  • ^_^ I wish I could have seen him in person. Very enlightening, very true.

  • I just saw Alexie tonight at Rutgers New Brunswick. We were a VERY fortunate crowd to say the least. Alexie is very very cool and very candid as these video comments say. Actually candid to the point of vulgarity which is why he gets very very cool instead of cool. Anyone who can get to one of his speeches better drop their normal rote schedule and get there

  • Hell yeah! I was there last night too & this guy fuckin' rocked the house! He was so strong in his convictions & just didn't give a shit. I love people like this; he was the fuckin' man!!

  • nice

  • sherman, you'll probably never read this (unless you too are a hopeless youtube junkie), but in case you ever do, just wanted to let you know that you are loved.

  • Goddamn, he speaks with ultra-reality. A supercool mind.

  • Sherman Alexie is my favorite author of all time. He captured every Indian thought, emotion, and event I've ever known and made it as delicious, addicting, and as homey as frybread. lmfao

Indians are not all that different when it comes to it.
