So many programs out there, released by Western Digital, Samsung, Seagate, etc and I've used them all and they suck. I mean, just basic quick scan garbage software out there that doesn't do anything more than scandisk/chkdsk ever does.
Spinrite I've used on a number of drives and gives you far more detailed and USEFUL information than anything else, plus the data-recovery can and does work.
You get to see the inside workings of HDD's that I'm sure the HD makers dont want you to see. BUY IT!!!
Ok so what do i do... i got the program and all i do is install it then what. I want to use it on my external drive cause its my overflow and i dont want to creat a boot cd or anything like that.
Any just got done running spinrite on my severally-clicking Samsung. 21 hours later and it's running like new again. The whole process was dead silent EXCEPT for when the drive began to repair/move the bad sectors (I think thats what it was doing???) Anyway rougly 14 hours into the scan my HD started going batshit, it made some demonistic sounds for about 5min then kept right on chugging. Fired it up this morning and whoala! Runs like a top ;)
Currently running spinrite on a dead maxator just to see what will happen. This time I got the red warning that SMART had detected that drive failure was imminent and I should do data recovery mode only (or something like that) I went ahead and opted for the full scan (#4) b/c I already transferd all the important data off the drive...What do you bet I'll be able to load windows once spinrite gets done??
i can vouch for this , its incredible what it does and its saved my ass a few times. but word of warning if you have a hdd of like 500 gb+ plan on having a cpu like a intel quad core as on quad core itll take about 6 hours or less.
This software is really amazing. It has saved many drives that I thought were completely dead. It really has to be seen working to believe. The next dead drive I have maybe I should make a video of spinrite working on that drive.
I have been told by a very smart computer hacker who used to work for microsoft that this is garbage software, but i dont know for myself as i have never used it
a great salesman...he really knows his product.

was that a serial number in the title bar?
killnpc 3 years ago
Yeah, that's the serial number, but I don't think you can enter the serial number into the application(at least in the copy I have)
torbar 2 years ago
@killnpc Yes, the number is H9NWJKVTUSRY9. And it is not usable anyways.
