Not really, if you are such a scholar that you interperet the facts to be "innocuous in meaning to the intellectual" you must also understand to most people it has a different meaning and that is one of annialation. It is not disinformation if there is a strong chance it will be misinterprted by lay people. In fact the message may be sent on purpose to convey two different interpretations. The message should have been clairified so as to give its true meaning. Which it was not either way.
