HATE to bring this up, but in the U.S, birdo was changed into a female. But in japan, where birdo originated, birdo was always a male and is still a male. Birdo is also called "Catherine" in japan. So, because birdo originated in japan, and in the SMB2 description and japanese mario kart double dash description, birdo is refered to as a male. Therefore, birdo is a male. Get over it and stop your whining.

There are girls that hate the color pink, and don't wear pink. There are guys who like the colors purple or pink, and dont like the colors red or blue. Girls that dont wear dresses or bows, guys that wear eyeliner, jewlery, and earings. Not everyone lives up to gender steryeotypes.

The birdo that we see all the time is most likely the same one from SMB2, most likely. But I can only speculate. It wouldn't make sense for them to use or popularize a random pink birdo that wasn't seen before.

The credits of Super Mario Bros. 2 mistakenly label Birdo as Ostro, and vice versa, a different enemy that has nothing to do with Birdo. However, this is fixed in the remakes of the game.
