3:22 - "You couldn't have a friendlier town than Detroit uh and you couldn't have a town more appreciative." And exactly during what time are you talking about? I can understand the inspirational highlight to what use to be (or is depending on the way you see it) the Great Motor City-Detroit. Being a Detroiter myself I can speak for many when I say, It's spirit is still living amongst its great land mark but the dream is perishing along with the city. It's a shame to see it dying away.
Detroit and the love of Detroit goes North, South, East, and West of Detroit Proper. The city is what connects everyone in South Eastern Michigan. Detroit has inspired the World and always will because of the love for our city.
When people say chicago it's understood that it can include the immediate suburbs, same with new york city, LA, etc, it's only detroit that divides its suburbs from the city so severely. When someone says "i'm from chicago" it could easily mean belvidere, near chicago" but people from the detroit area say "i'm from the detroit area" if they're in the suburbs (sub urban, or sub section of a city) or "i'm from detroit city" if they're from the city.
@faithm Eminem is from Warren, but he says he's from Detroit. Kid Rock is from Rochester, but he always embraces his Detroit roots, Not to mention Tim allen, so I don't get your point. Are you speaking of the stuffy racist scared white people in the suburbs, or the real cool ones like the two I mentioned.
@bigtown These are all famous people that tend to realize that people outside this area think of a city as including it's suburbs when you mention what area you are from. This is just my personal experience. I try not to label people so I wouldn't know if they are racists in their heart or not. I don't think they think whites are superior. This is a ridiculous question to me.
