I want Thorne to tell me if Einstein used Maxwell's "original" equations or Heavyside's streamlined version? If the latter, how does Einstein avoid getting a streamlined, if not an oversimplified, view of the universe? Instead of building on this edifice as Thorne has done, why not go back to see if it's even necessary to have this streamlining? Has Thorne used the original quaternion equations with computers to determine whether a fluid concept like the aether is actually true?
I seem to remember something about the genesis for Thorne's (co-authored) idea being that artificial worm holes with time distortion could be manufactured (as a properly spinning kilometers long cylinder of special material) was initiated from a request by Carl Sagan for help with writer's block and create a seemingly realistic and believable technology for the book Sagan was writing at the time, titled Contact. The operative word in making the technology workable is (unfortunately?) "special".
Kip is one of the living modern genius. He is maybe a bit underrated cus many people don't even know there are more people after Einstein.I hope Spielberg's movie will make Thorne's persona and works and studies more known universally
Kip Thorne's theories (and succesful experiments) are the basis for one of the most ambitious Steven Spielberg film projects EVER. I'm taking about INTERSTELLAR. It seems tha the movie will focus on recent scientific evidence that allows a human tripullated spacecraft travel acrosss localy controlled worm wholes. I'm not kidding. It's not science-fiction. It's... scientific speculation. Research this guy. Seriously.
Before we learn universe, quantum that thing we should first learn how to not become mad.

Great interview! I haven't been keeping track of him recently...looks like his work is paying off dividends!

Perhaps simplifying it all by saying it's composed of "a spherical, wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey...stuff" be appropriate?
