  • First, you kill and eat squirrels.. THEN, you muscle down those nasty things!!

  • Ramen noodles would be my choice ^_^

  • first of all thank you for your service. secondly i find your vids really informative and helpful. I have been looking at a number of old military guns and you helped me a lot with the research

  • Awesome... Thanks and keep up the good vids

  • I remember eating an MRE when I was in boy scouts camping. Even at a young age, I thought it was good. I wouldn't want to eat them everyday though.

  • stock up on ramen noodles? no... MREs are made to refill your nutrients and also provide you with enough calories. Ramen does neither of those things remotely well and will leave you not functional. Spam is good, but you want things with nutritional value such as tuna, canned vegetables, peanut butter, etc.

  • If MRE's are so vile and expensive why not just buy a cases of Chef Boyardee Ravioli, Mac & cheese, Spam and other canned meats, Instant Noodles, etc. Average price $1.00 each, spam and canned meat a little higher. I know everyone is saying weight, but on average it's the same per item without the price and bullshit.

Your not going to live off these rations forever, and the above mentioned items are high in fat and calories and store a good long while as well. Better than $60 rations.

  • thankyou for posting! how much do one of these run?

  • how are the chili and vegie burger?

a frend gave me the crackers and i felt like i had eaten a sponge that dryed up my insides

  • Loved the ending "I am going to go vomit now" LOL's

  • you mentioned in the first part condoms well i know in wwii they used those to cover the muzzle of their rifles

  • Someone gave me a bunch of the main dish, so I have no heater can I just put them it a pot of hot water?

  • LOL... The breakfast eggs taste like shit. Excellent choice!

  • "I'm gonna go vomit now" that was funny as hell. I know you didn't plan on making a joke but it really funny. Sounds like you meant it. I have never eaten that particular meal but some of them are actually pretty good. I have found that one meal is enough for two people if they are not working hard or aren't pigs. Beans, rice and spam should be a staple of any survivalist pack. Easy to cook and taste pretty good. Water, heat and a pot is all you need. Spam actually flavors the beans well.

  • lol i'm gonna go vomit now

  • Actually, maybe the white chocolate raspberry cookies didn't have macadamia nuts. I was too busy noticing the raspberries.

  • I found a apple maple oatmeal w/ hashbrowns and bacon one (sopak co commercial variety 2009) at a local army surplus store. Picked it up cause I've never tried the breakfast menus. The chicken and dumplings or chili and mac aren't bad.

I absolutely loved the raspberry macadamia white chocolate cookies. Most delicious thing I've tried from an MRE.

  • Dog, what's wrong with you i cant see shit!!!!!!!

  • Thank you soooo much for posting this! I have been putting off MRE's but am motivated now more than ever to purchase them! Thank you again!

    ~Mrs. Buckeye

  • Mountain House meals are a good option as well if you have a way to heat the water. Most of the ones I've tried have tasted decent, and they don't way anything. They don't come with the extra stuff that MRE's do, but they're a hell of a lot cheaper and now Wal-Mart sells them so you don't have to look online and pay shipping and wait to get them. And you also can just buy one to try it instead of getting a whole case for $60 and finding out they taste like shit. The shelf life is good too.

  • LOL "im going to go vomit" hilarious

  • you can make your own

  • I saw some one said you cant eat them 3 days in a row, i want to explain why, first of any mre has bunch of preservative chems that just twist your inners, just look at the expire date its impossible for only vacuum to do that! chemicals is the answer, an MRE IS NOT A SNACK ITS FOR MOMENTS WHEN YOU DONT HAVE FOOD

PS and who the hell would resist a plate of steaming pork or beef with potatoes?

  • MMM chicken and rice, chicken and noodles, and beef enchalada.

Old school. All of the track pads.

Cheese and normal crackers are the best.

I have eaten the MRE since it came around. I have views on all meals.

Send em my way if you have access...

  • There used to a meal called "pork with rice in BBQ sauce". I put some near the hole on an ant mound. Not only did they not eat it, they carried off, sat it down, then came back and went down the hole. Pretty bad when an ant won't eat something.

  • LMAO, I remember that MRE, yea it tasted like crap, the meat was good, but it tastes better heated. Those ants were thinking, "Fuck that!" "That shit would kill us!"

  • British ration pack grub is good stuff, tastes good, full of calories and simpler to use howeveer they are not self heating but hell in a survival situation other than the heat gain there's no benefit to heating the food. US ration packs seem to have a lot of luxuries in them, same sized box can fit many days more worth of food in the UK versions. Not attacking just comparing.

  • While I have a few cases of MREs. I'm going to shelter in place. Here's a challenge and a question for folks new to survival. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF THE STORES DID NOT HAVE FOOD FOR 3 MONTHS AND YOU COULD NOT GET GAS? Your best thing to stock is Spam, beans, rice and powdered milk and eggs.

    Remember, it's fuels for food.

  • enjoyed these vids mate :) really good info. cant have semi auto's in australia tho. not sure if ive ever seen these mre's either, guess they are here in camping supply shops. yeh not a good idea to shoot deer with a .22 unless you know what you are doing. had a laugh at your descriptions of the food taste

  • when we was bored we use to make bets who could eat the most mre crackers wihout drinking any water bet ya cant eat over 3 packs it will turn to dust in your mouth you cant swallow /also the applesause was very good

  • Dude, If I ate 3 packs of those crackers I wouldn't be able to move.

Those things would glue your insides together!

  • LOL, I remember I ate around three MREs a day, I couldn't go #2 for a couple of weeks... Pretty bad, but it makes me laugh, the things we do for food.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 they're the unconventional military field cure for diarrhea! hahaha

  • a good mre is jumbalia and i love the bread and choclate cake they where square also they came with m& msor some kind of sweets the chocolate was to keep you regular the gum was green or white squres 2 each it was to clean your teeth when i got deployed in 2003 ours came with milkshakes sometimes tootsie rolls my favorite was sketti and meatballs

  • My favs are the chicken with noodles, chili macaroni, and the spaghetti.

The MREs that some with peanut butter M&Ms ROCK...they should ALL have PB MMs.

  • interesting video vet....Ive havent shot a 22 since i was a kid. After i saw your video i saw a add for a Savage .22lr auto load rifle with scope for 159bucks....comes with a couple10 round mags as well....what do u think??....I dont know too much about .22's

  • That would do just fine. It doesn't have to be a semi auto, a good little bolt gun will do just fine too.

  • i've had them before, not the best but will def. get you out of a pinch.

  • Oh yeah...sure beats the heck out of starving!

  • PS no one had water in the canteens. Just pure ethanol ;-)

  • Vodka!!!!! :)

  • no, it becomes vodka when you mix it with water 1 to 1. Though some "well trained" guys in my unit drunk the raw stuff. And if you were one of those who could do it - PTSD will never happen to you ;-)

  • I'm gonna go vomit now LOL! Thanks for the sacrifice, man ;-)

I've never seen these space age MREs before. Back in the days when I served in the Soviet Army our daily ration MRE contained: dry bread+fresh rye bread (2lb), canned beef (1bl), 2 cans of cooked buckwheat or rice with pork of lamb (0.5 lb), condensed milk (great stuff), little bit of juice, 60 gr of sugar, 3 pkts of tea and 5 cigarettes. Regulations said a soldier cannot be fed with MREs for more than 3 days in a row. Good times!

  • Thanks for sharing. That actually doesn't sound bad.

  • sounds nicer than the new crappy mres.

  • : )

  • the one you ate is the worst one

  • You aint lying there buddy!

  • Thanks for the video so far i have not been let down by all of your videos.

  • the tabasco sauce will camoflauge all bad taste thats the only reason uncle sammy gives it to u thank you iraqvet. for doing survival vids they r a great barter item your time is precious thanks for shareing it with us god bless you hooah

  • Tabasco is the cure all for most things MRE :-)>

  • Thats the truth!

  • mre is designed so a soldier will not shit in the feild much some joes r lazy and will not police up after themselves therefore leaveing evidence for the enemy to find remember to bury all evidence that you have been there is laziness worth the price of 1 fellow soldier or maybe your whole platoon???????????disipline is an element of your mission

  • call me crazy but I love those things!

  • mre heater and a old gatorade bottle and some tape = fun

  • I never messed with them, but I can see where it would be some fun camp fire mischeif.

  • nothin to it like my pay check

  • After thinking about that MRE, If they gave you like 2 tortillas and some salsa instead of tabasco sauce, you could make a couple of breakfast burritos!!! The tortillas could warm up along side of the eggs and the salsa would spice them up so they wouldn't be so bland.

I dont know of too many people who dont like burritos. But as I mentioned before, if your "really really" hungry you'll have eaten that whole package and be wishing there was more!

    5 star vid man!

  • I could not agree MORE!

  • make sure you rotate them out. i heard somewhere, or read on the packs that they are only good for 5 years i think. i had some that were 3-4 years old and i decided to try them out & see what the different meals were like. it was a whole unopened case like the one to the right in the screen. anyway, they all tasted like crap & all the heaters wouldnt work. the fig bar snack is the worst. and the spicy cheese that was dark brown

  • Yeah, I remember running into some of them in Iraq that has cheese that turned brown, and peanut butter that had practically turned to mush.

All in all, they do fairly well. I think the temperature you store them at has a little to do with it.

  • I had the UK Army boil in the bag meals they were pretty good, never had a US MRE.That was long before my ilness kicked in,I dont think I could eat either now without dire results, well eating it would be ok,its just the 8 hours + of severe pain, bloating, nausea, diarorhea etc, then it takes me a week to get over eating one meal.I had a SMALL fry up breakfast at the hospital canteen on an appointment once,it knocked me out for two weeks and still did not feel better on the third, man do I suffer.

  • I take it that you can't handle too much of that type of food on your stomach?

I havent forgotten about your PM, it just requires a lengthy response, hence the wait.

  • I cant handle ANY type of food really, blander the better, mostly on a liquid diet, prescribed stuff in cans, cant stand any of the flavours apart from chocolate,(They do,chicken, aspargus, yuk!,coffee, chocolate, vanilla, mushroom, eggnog, nut),so been drinking that for the last four years, not sick of it yet! I look forward to your PM,thanks, really appreciate it,

  • Sorry to hear that you have types of problems. Wish you the best and ill be in touch with you soon.

  • Thanks

  • Thats pretty neat. Judging by you saying that the Marlin wasn't your's, you own/work at a gun shop?

  • Very soon we will be getting an FFL and will be "open for business"

    More details ASAP.

  • Rumor is the gum is a mild laxitive. Eat mres everyday and you'll need the gum. Not enuf fuber.

  • Sounds like a reasonable theory.

  • lol...The iraqi soldiers we had attached to us used to do that all the time.

  • Oh, they aren't that bad.

  • I know...I'm just being goofy...lol

  • Good video! Can't wait to see the rest of the series! I posted a topic in my forum about this and will be posting more video links as you get them up.

  • Thanks for the support! What forum if you don't mind me asking?

  • 1stpa_militia(dot)net

  • unfortunately I can not buy mre's from usa by reason of law on your food. So I bought from England & Germany in double price, (10 euros + shiping each) genuine us army mre. not the comercial. no 12 packs down here. Beef Enchilada, Spaghetti w/Meat Sauce & Beef Ravioli are very nice... hey nice for emergency not for back yard bbq... I'm waiting for your next videos

  • Thanks for sharing your experience. You are always welcome to come pop some shots with me if you ever make a trip to the US.

    Well have an MREBQ

  • Cool . . . brings back memories of training exercises!

Looking forward to the next in the series.

    Thanks again for your service.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  • The next video should be cool. Wanting to cover field equipment and weaponry.

  • Cool . . . you are doing great stuff on your channel. Thanks!

  • Thanks DOC

  • unfortunately MRE's are not gluten free. Does anyone know of a source of gluten free MRE's? Ditty Moore is gluten free, and some canned meats, but a variety would be nice. tj

  • TREET, SPAM, and the Dinty Moore meals are pretty much my weapons of choice.

  • I-88: used to love those beans & weenies cold and potted beef was a favorite in RVN when i was but a lad. Can't eat gluten now, makes me crazy (er). tj

  • lol...I hear you there. Beenie Weenies are something to add to the list. Also poodle dicks (vienna sausages)

  • Another great Vid guy...

Put my beenZ and spaghetti to shame!

  • lol...At least you are making an attempt to prepare yourself. The cans of SPAM and Dinty Moore meals aren't a bad option either.

  • Because of a storm, I was stuck years ago without any food for just over 4 days. I though I knew what hungry was until that happened! Going without food is such an awful feeling and I never want to expierience that ever again! Ever since then I've always had food stores in my home and I even have some beans and rice stored in the garage! Trust me, ANYTHING is better than nothing when your starving!

  • Thanks for sharing your experience for the good of the group. Anything is better than NOTHING....thats for sure!

  • MREs are a delicacy compared to what we had when I was in the army

and I didnt think K and C rats were that bad

be thankful for what you have , and for all God does for you everyday

    happy thanksgiving

  • number 10 is good, 01 is tolerable. 03 is very good for what it is.

The rest are like eating card board...

  • thanks for taking one fot the team, i was having flashbacks and dry gagging. lol.

my favorite althought not made any more is pork and rice with barbaque sauce, the worst is chow mein.

  • I agree. My favorite is the chicken with noodles, and the chili mac

  • Sometimes that Tabasco sauce really helps. There have been times that I've wondered if the toilet paper would taste better.

  • Yeah if the tabasco sauce didn't come with it, it would be like eating cardboard.

  • it would help to keep the whole video in frame so we can see everything. maybe putting everything on a table. just a production suggestion.

  • That is why I posted these few parts early. I take people's suggests for face value, so I will try to do a little better with the next video. Thanks for the ideas.

  • What about smell? Let's say civil unrest has happened and Bugged out. How much smell do they give off?

Or if everyone that did not prep is starving. outdoor grilling would get me killed for my food. how stealthy is this?

  • The hygrogen gas gives off a slight chemical like odor, but nothing serious. The smoke disappates very quick too.

  • how much time elapsed while it was heating? Happy Thanksgiving!

  • About 10 minutes. Sorry for not clarifying.

    Happy Thanksgiving.
