@PetaJUGENE The weather generally in Australia, is very sunny and pleasant especially in Queensland. However, because there is virtually no manufacturing industry here, almost everything is imported, and every importer/distributor here is out unfairly profit massively at your expense, I was quoted $20,000 AUD+ for a 200KVA 11KV/400V 3 phase transformer and even second hand products are only 30% cheaper! The excuse i given is that's what the market can pay.
So you have connected this to the normal grid through the LV side, and you are getting HV out? And you're shorting across two different phases to get an arc?
I do wonder what the effect would be with one of these, if I wired a washing machine motor to the output, and controlled the voltage of the input with a sizeable variac?
How much would that motor SCREAM ?!!!!! Imagine the inferno at the end, when the brushes melt down, and the whole thing dissolves into a bubbling puddle of metal !!!!
geez is that shelf in the back ground full of mots?!?!?!
and i got a really stupid request, but can you run the transformer on single phase and short out the other secondarys, i love that noise it makes, i heard that from the distro transformer photonicinduction had... but he scrapped it.
Enyone know how to check a pole pig transformer? My aunt gave me one, but i don't want make a test like this cause don't know is WORk and also don't have insulate oil.
@Demoman42 Yes he is very Lucky, as in AUSTRALIA I was quoted $1200 for a 20Kv 100VA Potential Transformer and a 16Kva 6350Volt SWER Pole Pig was $3500 second hand NOT NEW! A three phase 200Kva is about $20,000 + Transport costs. Australia there is no love no fun, you just pay and pay and pay all the way! ouch!
@Kizmox In Brisbane Australia, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a transformer like yours, without paying thousands and thousands and thousand and thousands of Dollars/ euro's, and ZERO make it to the scrap yard! Most are refurbished and re-sold at 3/4 of the original price. I had to make my own transformer.
Are you really using a piece of re-bar, shame on you!

Screw the ballast! Hook it directly up to the two phase bus!
yourTIV0 5 months ago
@yourTIV0 According to my calculations it would draw almost 900A without ballasting

Just wondering, why doesn't the electricity go straight across rather than going up and down in an arc shape?
MusicalGem10 1 year ago
@MusicalGem10
The arc is very hot. Hot air moves up. Ionized air is the better cundoctor. Electricity flowes through the arc.
