Hi steve85037, Greeting's to you too! But from a very wet, soon to be very windy & at the moment rather cold Northern England. This motor was registered in Sept 2005 & proved to be a great motor. The newer Defender's bulkhead simply isn't cut out where the vent's should go, I think LR sacked the bloke with the angle grinder to save a few quid! And yes, I agree those blank vent recesses look silly. The new dash makes it impossible to have vents also. My 02 was a death trap& a horrible thing!
Great video there mate! Good to hear a positive review about Land Rovers for a change! :D Had a stroke of bad luck with mine in the past, but will look into an older V8 Defender in the future.
thanks for that. i have watched basiclay all of your reviews for the defender you had me crackin up when you said about the cigar lighters being a bag of rubbish, allways good to add humor to a review.
No worries you are more than welcome to ask for information at any time. Thanks for your comment on my reviews. I think it is important to add some humour and character. All these polished, posh, accent free and scripted reviews are ok. But, don't have a down to earth straight talking or natural feel to them. Regards, DZ.
im thinking of buying a defender i have seen in autotrader but it has rust on the inside of the wheel arch could somebody tell me if that is a major fault or just a run of the mill problem. thanks
HI bonglewongle, The rust on the inside of the wheel arch is nothing to worry about. The wheel arches are galvanized from new, but as time and exposure to rain, grit and muck take their toll the wheel arch will rust. It may be the footwell you can see, this is easily repaired. Just ask if more help needed. DZ.
tractor83, I agree. Why the chaps at Land Rover insist on giving us ok engines I do not know. My Td5 can pull the skin off a rice pudding, but I would like to pull the whole pot full!
Having driven the new 07 defender i can honestly say I'm going to keep my Td5 to the death.....Transit engine??? its not much cop in a tranny van let alone a Land Rover......great shame Mercedes don't own LR..Sprinter engine in a Defender...Now you're talking!!! All the very best to you DZ hope the old 5 pot plods on for a good while yet!
Thanks young man, I must admit I rather like my old 5 pot! It is about time Land Rover put a serious 6 cylinder diesel in the old beast, since it is due to expire in 2012 they have nowt to loose. All the best, DZ.
Don't be like that kampfdrew. Over the last 60 years Land Rovers have made major, positive contributions to all manner of situations. It's only the design as we know that is going to change in 2012, Defender will live on in a new design. And since three quarters of all Land Rover ever built are still trundling around, you wont be to far from one where ever you go! Good news that tha nos.
I think the best way to think about it is evolution. I reckon that the change in 2012 will be a similar thing to when the Series Landys were replaced by the Defender back in the 80s. Just hopefully they'll keep it looking Defender-esque and tough!
Hello mrsoupdragon, Your right about the evolution bit. Of course the meddling do gooders and Europrats have insisted that all motorized transport be snoop nosed for the sake of protecting idiots that run/walk out in front of us. Maybe Land Rover will make the new 2012 Defender like a small scale Mercedes Unimog. Hmmmm, now theres a thought! Regards DZ.
I know only snippets of information gathered from river of life, like fishing for the Loch Ness Monster but getting some real evidence! Anyway, yes the old Defender needs a bit of a face lift. I drive a Unimog U500 on a regular basis and Land Rover could learn a thing or two from Mercedes! Regards, DZ.
people need to upload more clips like this. I prefer funnier stuff myself, check out dolphinhump. lostfrog . com , I laughed so hard I got kicked out of class! haha.
I don't have a lot to spend... only about £4k. There was one for sale at The Sun Inn but that was a little bit over my limit. I can only find rough Td5s for my budget... So I'm looking at late 300Tdi's at the mo.
Hello mr soupdragon. I dont know what kind of soup you feast on but it must good tackle! Yes indeed young man, you are right. I had no idea that I lived so near to a dragon, your not welsh are you?
Haha no I'm not welsh. It just comes from and old nickname that has stuck with me. The Mr is only there as the Soup Dragon from The Clangers was female! And the soup I feast on is only the best ;-)
I never even thought of The Clangers! A fine program indeed. I am sure the soup you feast on is the best, personally I feast on Heinz Beans! Its been grand talking to you young man. One day we might pass on that there road, stop, and have a chat. Regards,DZ.
Hi RexRegis, I trust you are in fine fettle. I will take on board your comment about a wider angle of view. However, when it comes to focus I am restricted because I only have a mobile phone camera. As for the jumping about, I will try to hold the view for longer. Kind regards, DZ.

The engine that they should chuck in the motor is the TdV6 in the discovery, the v6 twin turbo diesel from jaguar all 190 bhp of harnessed lunacy !!!

man you have zero filming skills. stop jumping about so much and use a wider shot and keep your picture focussed on each thing for longer
