that's amazing, truly admirable! She fought through her fear of public speaking to speak up about something important to her. She did a fantastic job!
@superepicwin Anika is my personal friend, she's such a good student, and trust me, she's always in the library to do nothing but work and research. Why do you need to stereotype? And she was crying also because of how nervous she was. Think about talking to the mayor himself, with a bunch of people around you at 2 in the morning, about something that is so close to your heart.
@Buddy3315 yes, because farming is a reasonable solution when your plot of outdoor real estate is a 2 foot by 3 foot concrete balcony, if you're lucky enough even have a balcony. Unless of course you mean growing drugs in closets.
at 2am, after waiting for hours to speak, she was tired and extremely nervous, so she started crying and laughing at her crying. I've done this, this is not an act. and I can't believe Ford supporters don't understand why libraries are important. Poor kid's parents can't afford to put them into afterschool programs, without positive outlets kids start doing unproductive anti social things which make the city more dangerous. You need to give them an outlet, this is an insurance policy for YOU.
@erinm190 Fuckin ford is a cruel bastard, after watching this girl cry, how does anyone not feel ANY sort of sympathy and compassion and understanding towards what she and many others feel? I am a 20 year old currently in university and use agincourt library excessively. I am very proud of Anika for speaking up to that cruel fat pig we call mayor.
@Buddy3315 that's what a public library does - it provides free access to the internet. It is needed in modern life to apply for jobs, scholarships, colleges and unemployment benefits. Taking away public libraries is a tragedy for a democratic society.
You were fantastic! Thank you for being such a passionate voice in defense of something so important. Keep fighting the good and honorable fight. Toronto don't let her down!
Just a note about commenting on this video. While I fully support the use of pseudonyms online, if you're going to say something nasty about Anika's presentation all I ask is that you sign your real name. That's fair, right? If you're too cowardly to put your name to it - don't bother - I'll delete it. If Anika had the courage to speak up - in person! - for her library, it's only fair that a condition of a critical rebuttal online is your real name. Thanks!
Firstly I'm glad she spoke up. It needed to be siad from someone so invested and involved with the library.
What also needs to be said is yes taxes go up and then rents go up and school fees bein. Are you fully cognizant of the details involved in planning the capital and operating budgets?
Many new citizens are moving to our more liveable cities. These people need to understand what made our cities liveable. We do need to pay to keep the lights on, the heat going, pay the staff and keep the buildings up and the collections relevant.
Also I've noticed a lot of visiting students at the library. In other countries you can not find this same opportunity. If we are determined to offer free internet and upgrading the hardware and software we need to spend someones $.
Her name is Anika Tabovaradan, and I admire her braveness to stay up until 2:05am to speak out to the council. Well said, the libraries in Toronto needs to expand, rather than service cuts.
She should use the schoold library no?

Libraries should be considered an essential service - because education saves lives.

I fully support Mayor Ford in his effort to curb spending and Pinko Libs can leave Toronto if they dont like it any more. Nuff said....

Obviously this young lady spent a great deal of time working on her performance. Very few people her age would have been able to do that.
