Sids has nothing to do with suffocating or choking. it's merely a death that has no explanation. Personally, I don't believe it can be prevented, at least not with current medical knowledge.

Also, babies can be awake and die suddenly, with no apparent cause.

Wow I am so sorry for your lost. Thank you for this information. about 6 years ago my godson died of SIDS and it hit home so bad. I now have a 19month old baby boy and as an infant i watched him like a hawk i barely slept. Now to hear about SUDC I'm scared all over again. My Babay sleeps for long periods of times i guess ill have to wake him from his naps because this is so scary. Im gonna look into this also being educated helps . I know you cant prevent inevitable things but awareness is Key.

I just want to point out that if a child suffocates in their crib, or dies from the hands of another person, or suffers death from any other identifiable cause, then it is NOT SIDS. SIDS is unexplained death, meaning there is no apparent cause, no signs of struggle, nothing. The baby goes to sleep and doesn't wake up.

I lost my niece on SUDC last summer, I was there when my sister put her to nap and there too when she found her dead. No doctor could tell us why she died, even after her autopsy, that's why it is called UNEXPLAINED. She didn't suffocate nor had any health problem.

Well, you can maybe tell me how a 19 month old (that's 1-1/2 years) suffocates on their mattress. He was jumping in and out of his playpen. The medical examiner found no signs of suffocation...and wouldn't you think that if suffocation was the reason, why is it still called SIDS/SUDC (unexplained). Hopefully one day we can have a solid cause for the death of these babies. Until then we have nothing. Please educate yourself and help raise awareness so there aren't misconceptions such as these

SUDC is Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. Because Elijah was over 1 y/o, they did not label his death as SIDS. Someone here mentioned vaccinations, but it wasn't me. He hadn't gotten any right before his death. His only symptom was a fever and that went away by lunchtime. I put him to bed, he never woke. We still don't know what happened with Elijah. The sad thing is...we probably never will.

There has a new news from international doctor science. Say that most of the SIDS, because of the mother is a smoker or after the baby born, alway stay beside the smoker.

I don't think you know what you are talking about. In some SIDS cases the mother is not a smoker, neither the father, and their baby was NEVER exposed to smoke...so in these cases...what was the reason? No one knows how to prevent it. I encourage you to do some research before posting a comment like this.
