Its amazing to hear this song now, at september 17th. I have been at the rememberance in Arnhem yesterday and listing at this song and having the faces of the men in my head, its truly moving.

This song was written about Joel Pott's grandfather after he passed away. I love how Athlete captures moments in human life so poignantly. They write about life and love, being a child, losing a child, and death and it all makes sense. They are one of the best bands on the planet.
Athlete are on tour as we speak performing their songs 'stripped back' and if you think they sound good on here, you should go catch them live as they will blow you away. Sublime.
I've been big Athlete fan since seeing them well down the undercard at an REM gig in Manchester 2003, thought they were amazing then and they still are, its such a shame for a band with this amount of talent that they are not top of the tree. I'm a big coldplay fan too, and it has to be said their songs are no better than Athletes, they just have the promotional muscle of a big record company and a lot of luck hitting the right spot at the right time.
Also if you read that Athlete didn't even have the funds to take their drummer on last promo tour of US and had to use a session drummer it makes their story even more sad. In a way its nice that they are still a relatively unheard of band because that way I get to see them at fab small venues where you are right up there with the band, the way gigs should be. small venues, great sound, devoted fans and no pints of whatever being chucked about!!
It is indeed a great travesty that they have never received the recognition that they truly deserve, but like you say, we probably wouldn't get to see them up close and personal like I did on Sunday night at Warwick Arts Centre....

Saw them play Bournemouth o2 on Thursday. Did not know much about the band at all and never bought a record, but this song was completely mesmerising. Superb.

First heard it properly at KerrangFest 09 and the first thing I did afterwards was youtube it. Such a meaningful song, deserves to be more widely known.

we should start a facebook/twitter group to get athlete in the top 20. this song DESERVES to get Number One.
Goes to show the morale values today: people would rather songs about getting hammered then something meaningful and touching.

as a matter of fact, theres a related video named Athlete - Black Swan Song - Acoustic in arnhem which actually shows like... the reason he made this song, that video also has a link the a Documentary named 'Black Swan Story' or something along those lines, which is an amazing thing to watch.

Also check out on you tube "Lone Justice i've found love 1987". One of the best live performances you will see from a very underated band, and with the grand total of just over 2500 hits. I promise you will not be disappointed

Very under-rated band. I managed to get hold of a limited edition Promo of the whole album 'Vehicles and Animals' not long ago.
.Excellent band, during my marijuana smoking days I had many a happy memories listening to their stuff.
Not a fan of their' Wires' period but this one has made up for it.
What they up to lately? They have a unique souns and should concentrate on that only, don't try to be too indie, just stick to the 'Casio rock'.
Keep it up. Share the love.
