When what you fight for starts to fall

    And in that fuzzy picture

He writing stands out on the wall

    So clearly on the wall

Send out the signals deep and loud

  • for me as a drummer my fav part is at the end with only the drummer playing but i lvoe it all (lighting DAM LOL )

  • OMG...4 people without taste))))

  • I love this arrangement, absolutely gutted that I missed him on this tour as the whole album is so strong. I am writing a Sceience Fiction trilogy & this song is the last three pages :) Absolutely sums up the emotion, beautiful, powerful, PG is King!

  • Nusrat Fateh was my hero...

  • Se me ponen los pelos de punta. Maravilloso Gabriel!!

Se fué de Genesis, tras él lo hizo Steve Hackett y la banda paso del Rock Progresivo al Pop Ñoño,es decir, desapareció para crear otra banda con el mismo nombre.

  • i wonder if when u try buy tickets they say no epileptics cause at 7:00 mins onwards ud be f*cked

  • not to keen on his singin in this song although i think this video the singing is better than the others but the instrumental is epic love it ... especially in gangs of new york

  • As always.....pure perfection.

  • Haunting. Even somewhat frightening. With my ear plugs in working at the computer that warbling sends shivers down my spins.

  • you need much more than words to descripe this..

  • I love how his songs make the commentators ponder the existence of god(s).

I wonder what AC/DC fans are talking about these days.

  • @mechasonic17 People like you and their overdrawn conclusions.

  • @mechasonic17 fucking true!

  • stop the video and watch carefully in the crowd frame by frame from 6:59 to 7:04, wtf ?!

  • @smirned0ff lol the whole crowd look brainwashed

  • Comment removed

  • Better than sex, eh? Or is it just me?

Anyway, I'd do it with this song playing.

  • Receive and transmit...

  • I'd take this over the studio version any day. The drum machine, combined with the heavy chorus make the song. One of Gabriel's finest, and certainly my favorite.

  • I was just rape by powerful emotions from watching this performance...Love the transition from 4:20 till end...what a master piece.Peter only gets better with age!

  • Well. Every time after listening to this song I am instantly back at his performance in cologne some 7 years ago. I can only confirm what someone else already said: Especially live it is a stunning experience and the power emerging from this song definetly left the people somewhat shocked. The slow start and the constant rising of power and speed leading to an unbelievable intense final left us all standing there trembling. It's a masterpiece. Another one. Made by a REAL genious. I love him.

  • Best DVD i ever saw .. and i saw a lot.

    ( Picture, Sound... everything )

    Director

    Hamish Hamilton. What else.

  • See how subdued the audience is at the end, noone is even moving. This song is so powerful one would submit to it with complete surrender. My favorite part starts at about 4:36 when notes start climbing one step at a time. Just when you think it cannot climb any higher than it already is, the waves of well-orchestrated sounds hit you evern harder and push you even higher till you feel like you are in the realm of divinity, captured and entranced by some unseen power this song is hard-core.

  • This is really great ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • nusrat fateh ali khan's voice, PG's charm, and the excellent music make this song a true masterpiece!

    2.40 is just amazing.

  • Splendido la mia preferita di Gabriel!

  • This work feels like a rock equivalent to Beethoven's "Grosse Fuge". Those who like this might check out the Grosse Fuge.

  • Another PG masterpiece. I only have to close my eyes and loud the volume...

  • Gangs of New York. I like how they used this song. The instrumental is as awesome as the one with lyrics

  • I saw him do this live in Birmingham, loudest thing i've ever heard live, the place was shaking.Fantastic

  • This video moves me.....in ways much too complicated to try and explain. I guess that's the magic of this great Artist, yes?

  • Eines meiner absoluten Lieblingsliedern von Peter Gabriel mit Gänsehaut - Feeling

  • the most emotional song i've ever heard live !! peter!

  • @markusernstberger It is a special gift he has in conveying empathy.

  • braddock independent 2010 <33

  • Receive and transmit - I really do!! There is a God in this world if such songs are created...

Thank you, Peter, for singing the words which we all should scream outloud everyday. Because that's the general true about today's world.

  • I still can't get over this song even after 10 years. The emotions it expells from me are as profound as it did the first time. This song is legend, no doubt about it. It would be on the before-I-die wish to have the honor to see reprecated the full-blown live reproduction of this performance/song. But Peter Gabirel is getting old, I really wonder if he would ever have another giant production such as this one.

  • better in instrumental.

  • great emotion

  • Legend

  • I saw this show live in Germany, it was profound. the best show i'd seen in a very long time.

  • What is Peter singing about in this song?

  • @HonestCriticzzzzzz Peter is singing about substance. "Turn up the signal/ wipe out the noise." Convey information in what you say, or don't say anything at all. Be real or don't bother to even be.

  • and how about khan ....

  • what

  • @HonestCriticzzzzzz , thats a a very good question... and guitarasaur... no, peter is talking about something else... peter is talking about that moment when Neo and agent Smith merge, and the light is turned up...

  • I guess it conveys some sort of hopelessness about "the noise in the world", war, religious conflicts, etc. Possibly emphasised by the conflicts in the middle east which is ruining so many peoples lives (cradle's burning). Turn up the signal, as in making the right choices to give peace to humanity instead of the constant noise and hate that ruins the world. Thats one interpretation. :)

  • That's pretty much what I've felt to be the interpretation, as well; my idea was broader, but essentially the same: not just with the Middle East but with people's lives in general. I connected with this song at a low point in my life when things were very bleak for me; I had been assaulted and was trying to find a way through the heartbreak. This song spoke to me that, yes, there is s**t in this world, but the only thing worth living for is the good. See: First 4 or 5 lines of the song. :)

  • This is so awesome i gett chills :)

  • Ditto :)

  • это просто взрыв мозгов!

  • If you don't like this, then I don't like you...

  • You would not know music if it shoved it's dick in your ass.

  • RIP Nusrat Fateh.. WE miss youuuu

  • Now THIS is music!

  • sigh

  • true said nusrat fateh ali khannn is superb.....who died before he could complete this song.....so they overdubed......but still great...

  • sounds like they lifted the track from Khan's performance with PG at the VH1 Honors awards in 1996 and used them here. that version is on YT. it's awesome.

  • OMFG. This is *such* a fantastic version of an awesome track. So powerful, it puts shivers down my spine and tears in my eyes every time. Only music this bloody good could ever do that.

  • 0:01 - 7:41 is my favorite part :)

  • True, 7:42 plain sucked... :)

  • Comment removed

  • Perfect. This live performance is on another level folks.

    Receive and Transmit...indeed.

  • 6:55-7:07

    pulchritudinous

  • OH MY GOD, this is heavenly from 4.50 look how they transition from one scale to another.....thats godly....no comparison.....I am totally blown away. Feels like open heaven!!

  • @bluzane when i listen to PG i only think in one thing........ where the hell he gets these ideas from, i think of his mind and how it is processing these lovely music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A Real MasterPiece

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (A Sufi Supreme) vocal contribution is outstanding, even as overdub, and gives a mystical depth to this wonderful music

  • @sonoentusiasmo so true....

  • My favourite use of this song in movies:

Im Winter ein Jahr (A year ago in winter)

See the end of the movie. The song fits perfectly!

  • genau so seh ich das auch.

    it fits perfectly.

  • R.I.P Nustrat fatah ali khan..his nephew from pakistan rahat fatah khan is outstanding aswell...

  • His music actually has meaning unlike the majority of stuff these days.

  • It´s my favourite to....It make you feel specials things...

  • a very powerful, and humbling song

  • My favorite song now and always.

  • RIP Nusrat.

  • send out the signal deep and loud!

    turn up the signal!

wipe out the noise! Peter Gabriel - legend without doubt. I adore this song, it's beautiful. I adore this song, it's beautiful.

  • A genius and brilliant man. Truly one of the most gifted people on this planet

  • send out the signal deep and loud!

    turn up the signal!

    wipe out the noise!

  • Peter Gabriel - legend without doubt.

  • I adore this song, it's beautiful.

  • Tell me there's no God now! Just listen

  • A genius and brilliant man. Truly one of the most gifted people on this planet.

  • This is just marvellous!!

A great yoyage from the quiet atmospheric start to the dramatic orchestral final. Wonderful.

    Why do you complain, sportychik??

This song is called "Signal to NOISE"!

And you get a full minute of harmony to start with. :-)

In addition I am truly convinced that a good song can easily cope with a good disharmony!

  • I read this book signal to noise about a guy who makes a makes a "liquid quantum computer" to decipher an alien signal and he meets an alien who wants to trade tech and the alien trades this "JUMP ORB" and its this lil ball that uses rotational energy of body in space to generate a sling shot effect to travel through speace time instaneously.Side effect is if use a planet the planet stops to spin and theirs an invasion and the earth is gone and oh man its a good book and theres a sequal

  • My favorite song, excellent

  • Excellent, definitely.

  • Caught this tour was sad that a great artist like Peter Gabriel could not sell out the Meadowlands in New Jersey. It was a great concert!!

  • its Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan singing in this song. Nusrat is from Pakistan's city of Faisalabad. The excellent vocalist that Pakistan has produced.

  • sounds so much like crazy from in there somewhere, youl see what i mean, im sure thats where he was sporned from lol love this song pg

  • Who needs a god when you have music like this?

  • God blessed you with ears and music like this!.

  • hey pal there is no such thing as a god

it was made up over 10,000 years ago by a bunch of arabs alright? so stop your preaching

  • Well the concept of god goes back to a time when man began to call upon the heavens for gifts lightning for fire rain for crops as in many cases these were seen as gifts from god/gods.This became a astrotheological system wherein the greastest symbol is the most prominent in sky ie The Sun, so one could argue that the sun is god. This dogma of god in the sky is not a local occurence in that continental separation has not stopped the rise of many similar systems of theology that worship the sky.

  • yeah but who the fuck would believe that these days? they know the sun is a giant ball of fire in space

and the sky is made up from the atmosphere

people must be really fucked in the mind to believe those things are god LOL

  • Well today there is no real definition of what god is. Typically you get this god is mystery blah blah god is love whatever whatever. What people forget is that god is created concept by human culture to give a sense of knowing when we really dont shit.

  • i guess people are too dull to realise that quite some time ago god was created by people to feel better about their sins etc.

so they prey to this "god" thinking it will make everything better when nothing will change at all.

  • Yeah. I mean the only change that ever comes in history is when people act.But the majority of people who have to act dont want to cuz they dont want the responsibilty when shit gets fucked up. so we let government and business run the show. If we the people truly wanted it any other way things wouldnt be the way they are because on the grand scale of human consiousness the way the world is is the way we want it.

  • you're entitled to your opinions Steviep89, but keep them in your ass if you can't voice them in a less hateful way

  • hateful?? is that what you call the truth?

thats all im doing is spreading the truth.

  • I don't understand the lyrics of this song. but all I can say is that every time I listen to this song, it freezes me. I never have such feelings when I hear a song like this one

  • First time I heard this song, I was stunned by the powerful arrangement of the music, the steady and sure climb to the peak that explodes into atomic ripples sustaining for a good 3-4 minutes. I saw red earth in my mind's eye, burning in an infernal brought upon with a vengeance by the angel of death and fury.....this song has had to have been divinely inspired.

  • what hint from trespass? im interested

  • Pure art!

  • I don't know if anyone has notice but at the end this song feels a lot like Apocalypse in 9/8... comments???

  • Seriously? Terrorist state of USA? The nation that has provided the most humanitarian aid in the world? And Israel, the nation that fights every day to keep an ever-diminishing segment of land? And Great Britain, the very country Peter Gabriel is FROM? Terrorist states indeed.

And by the way, "Thou Shalt Not Kill" is referring to murder. God had Israel (the nation to which that commandment was originally given, ironically) go to war; war entails killing. I doubt God is contradicting Himself.

  • My soul's twin, recieve and transmit........ :)

  • Recieve and Transmit

  • Turn up the Signal, Wipe Out the Noise :)

  • I would kill 1,000 terrorist for a new album.

  • ouch!!!! :D

  • Hands down, one of the most visionary and creative minds around. Killer track (no baby-pun intended).

  • How about killing those criminals instead?

  • yeh pretty odd thing to say really. Hes amazing but i think thats a bit much!!

  • this is my fave song off the up album. Hes amazing!!

  • I have always love this song but this version is superb! It's darker/meaner and Gabby's vocals - more powerful than the one we find on the album - suits Nusrat's godly voice. Nice!

  • no, its an recording by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

  • It is som much more powerful with the African percussion behind it.Hearing it live with 25 Burundi drummers behind it would probably be one of the most intense live performances ever.

  • this in gangs of new york but without the singing

  • I have a concert cd where he speaks of growing up on a farm, and being at his grandparents place where he looked at an Atlas. The Atlas was repeated covered in pink, and when he asked his father why, his father replied: "It's British son".

  • Pure genius!

  • GUUD !!!!!!!

  • in my opinion one of the best songs ever done ...
