  • @03067743 What do you means who knows ! HECK YEAAH ! I love China and I love Israel !!!! am Israel Hai

  • I´m amateur singer, just in Yidish and Hebrew, and I´m astonished of hearingo this Chorus. Particulary I sang many times "Oifn Prichechok" and I´m very very grateful and affected afeter hearing of this beatiful Chorus. Thanks and my blessing to them.

  • love this. if only all choral music was this good.

  • The language is both Hebrew and Yiddish, the language of Eastern European Jews for a thousand years. The pronunciation excellent except for the "R"s and gutturals. The opening is the Yiddish lullaby :Oyfn Pripitschik", they then seque into Naomi Shemer's "Yerushalayim Shel Zahav" ("Jerusalem of Gold"), written just before the June 1967 war and celebrating the Jewish yearning for Jerusalem.

  • what language r they using? the song sounds beautiful!

  • This is beautiful and sad at the same time. Excellent work.

    Thanks for posting.

  • q funcion !!!!!!!!!!!!

    q hermoso

  • I hope this performance helps people realize that the Showa is a human tragedy shared by all the people of Earth, that we all must learn from.

  • SHOAH spelling counts

  • It is made in HK, not China

  • This choir is come from Hong Kong, not from China.

  • Simply wonderful! Brought tears to my eyes remembering my Boby singing this song to me .Thank you for your kindness in performing this .This is what peace is all about. Nonifox

  • I hope these students learned the story behind the tune as well as the translation of the songs they sang.

  • This is so touching to someone who lost part of my family when I was six years old. Thank you CU Chorus for your kindness.

  • Absolutely moving. What a wonderful medium music is to allow people from across the globe to feel tsimilar emotions.

  • wonderful - maybe this is the way to go to educate young people.

As a choirster, I am so proud of their accomplishments.

  • such reaction???

music to express emotion transcends color, race---it is a universal HUMAN emotion....could be from anywhere in the world even made in Germany!!!

  • It is not made in China, it is made in Hong Kong

  • Like we say in yiddish: A-klaine olom, gell? Very beautiful and moving.

  • WOW

  • BRAVO CHINA The late Ben Gourian would have been proud of you - Excellent

  • brilliant..I'm passing it on to my synagogue to watch.

  • הם אומרים: "אוויר הרים צלול כמים..."

  • What is the most remarkable, is that this performance is by the chorus from the Chinese University in Hong Kong. The world is getting smaller, and there is hope.

  • This is impressive, given the cultural barriers (Western music, song in Hebrew, a film about events that have no links to the Chinese). What saddens me is the number of times I have heard or read Muslim authorities saying, not just that Western music is taboo, but that ALL music is sinful and forbidden. They teach this in Muslim schools, so their children will never sing in choirs like this. To me, that is the sin. How many Muslim composers and musicians will never achieve a thinhg.

  • Truly lovely. The violinist, so young, yet he equals Itzhak Perlman. Thank you for posting this.

  • It was absolutely lovely, I agree. That said, I was very annoyed by breathing during words, and breaking the line at inappropriate times. That said, it was a very well balances sound.

  • thanks for this Simon.. it was beautiful

  • the yiddish is great! What a Thrill.

  • Perfect presentation, song, ghoir performance and of course the violin !!!

  • Awesome! 棒極了!! מְצֻיָּן

One of the most enjoyable and moving things I've seen on Youtube!

  • This touching performance brought tears to my eyes and shivers up my spine.

Thank you for all the work it took to achieve this beautiful result.

  • This is one of the most beautiful renditions of these two classics that I have ever heard! These people get a 20 minute (at least) standing ovation from me! It brought tears to my eyes with its' emotion and delicacy. These are some of the songs that I grew up with and to hear them sung like this is a joy!

  • Superb thank you for that. What a film and what a song

  • A beautiful tune performed by beautiful

    and talented players. Extraordinary!!!!!!

    Sarah

  • Beautiful

Thank you for being so delicate and human...

  • An overwhelmingly moving performance by these lovely Chinese University students. A great thank you to them and to the person who provided this video.

  • Hermoso, no hay palabras, sólo sensaciones! Stupendo i miei complimenti di cuore.

  • This magnificent example of respect and humbleness show only one thing that everybody should think about: a human being is good for what he is e not for what he has.

    PEACE, PEACE, MY GOD!

    alce 2008

  • Very moving! Are we reciprocating by learning and knowing about Chinese happiness and sorrows?

  • Beautiful!

  • Touching and beautiful !

Well coached in Yiddish. And very timely as we remember our murdered Brothers and Sisters this week, murdered by the

    so-called civilized german nation, their

only crime that they were born Jews.

Imagine what more than 1 1/2 murdered children might have meant to the world had they been allowed by the germans to live to adulthood ! How many Nobel Prize winners went to the german ovens and gas chambers!

  • amazing, amazing. i sang this in high school. i love this song. i often sing it to myself whenever i am sad because it helps to remind me that things could be a lot worse and that i should be grateful for all of the good things in my life. i also find hope in the melody.

  • Absolutely stunning!!!!!!!! Moved me to tears. What a great lesson in humanity :)) Thank you so very much

  • Beautiful, veru very interesting

  • Heartwarming. No other words can describe it.

  • The synthesis of Eastern and Western Cultures.Truly beautiful!

  • Moved me to tears...

  • Superb and very moving ....

  • It also brought tears to my eyes and joy in my heart. Truly music is a universal language. I sing in a community chorus traditional jewish music in yidish and hebrew. I just loved your presentation: violin, director, university chorus. Congratulations!!

  • C'est tout simplement " Superbe "

    Merci a nos amis Chinois

  • wow! amazing performance. Its refreshing to see cultures around the world embrace the history of Judaism. The more the world see's us as actual people the more people will hopefully stand up to growing antisemitism around the globe. The last time in history there was this much hate for Jewish people around the world, the holocaust happened. Lets hope we have learned from our mistakes.

  • wooooooow good video

  • The violin selections are by John Williams. The first song is in Yiddish and is traditional about children sitting by the fireside saying ther A,B,C,'s and the other song is in Hebrew, "Jerusalem of Gold".

    This is lovely.

  • Beautiful. Thank you.

  • brought tears to my eyes...thank you

  • I still believe Moshiach is coming! Wathcing this only furthers my faith!

  • This was truly beautiful, brought tears to my eyes.

  • מקסים

  • A really beautiful performance, which any Jewish group could justifiably try to emulate. So moving a tribute to the importance of remembering. I would like to attribute hope to this.

  • Dear Jake

I am Jewish - since birth, actually since by bris, and this is a reference to a comedy record from the late 50's and various other 'ethnic' jokes that we jews like to tell about each other. It's called Jewish humor you shmuk!!! I applaud your anti-racist passion but you barked up the wrong tree this time!!

  • Funny they don't look Jewish!

  • Hello moron can you describe to me how the Jews looked like, did you ever meet ethnic Jewish person? If you did, he probably look like you or your teacher or your neighbor your doctor or your wife or husband.

  • well, they are chinese!

  • Jews don't come from one culture - Judaism is a religion. And who cares what religion they are - the tribute/talent is wonderful and can be appreciated on that level, too.

  • Excelente, cálido y delicado

  • wow, really beautiful. goosebumps! thank you for posting!

  • una delicia para el alma y el espiritu

  • What is the name of this chorus and the musicians? Where are they located. Can they tell us something about their group?

  • this is a student chorus called CU Chorus, theu are formed by students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. As you can see, they are all Chinese but they sing perfect Hebrew. Certainly they have put in effort and their professionalism is very respectable.

besides Hebrew, they also sung in Finish, Japanese, German and Latin. You can find their other performances on YouTube.

The current conductor is Leon Chu, an alumni to the university.

  • They are also singing in Yiddish

  • A magnificent performance. An emotional experience by a fantastic violinist and pianist and superb chorus. Thank you for doing this. It means so much.

  • The violinist is excellent. I remeber learning this peice a while ago.

The choir is exellent, I wish my choir could actually sing together like this choir rather than a bunch of individuals.

  • awesome...

  • So sad...so beautiful...

  • wow. just wow.. that was absolutely beautiful. I sang this same piece when I was in 9th grade, and I remember crying (I wasn't the only one..most of the choir, the director and audience were.)It evokes such deep emotions.

  • amazing. They sing like angels.....sad angels.....

  • Simply beautiful, i had a tingle down my spine when the chorus came in, simply fantastic. Schindler's List by Williams was the first piece i learnt on piano, and listening to this reminded me of how many emotions a piece of music can bring forward.

    לזכור

  • The coda was beautiful, you guys are great.

    so sad as those times.
