Tesla was a showman and understood little about what he was working with. This is why C.P. Steinmetz (mathematician and pioneer of AC) advised E.W. Rice (GE president) NOT to hire Tesla for a project. Steinmetz had to fix Tesla's poorly made Niagara Falls generators when they kept overheating.
