  • I'm sorry, but it IS an advantage. Proof? Name 1 white man who could place 5th in world sprinting versus jamaicans? That's right.... no one. PS I am Irish, not that it matters. How about a regular athlete puts a 3 foot extension on their legs and do the same thing, running a 100m in 5 seconds, then you may change your tune. Should not be allowed. Seriously, no offense to handicapped, I know it's inspiring, but it's still cheating.

  • If they didn't give him a height restriction for the Olympics, I wonder if longer blades would help.

  • aperture labs boots...

  • THis is soo transhumanism

  • its poor lil tink tink

  • amazing

  • guys a warrior.

    poor lil tink tink

  • Katt was takin the piss but the point is he respects him. keep callin him tink tink for the wrong reasons cuz this certified heroe and inspiration will keep on using hater fuel to feed his fire. keep runnin tink tink.

  • TINK TINK TINK ! Bent Over Paper Clips !

  • thats lil tink tink

  • LOL!!!!!

  • Awesome guy, a true hero and a true inspiration.

But who the hell's voice is that?

  • um grande exemplo pra todos nós!!

  • i salute you oscar!!!

  • He did run in an able bodied race against jeremy wariner in the 400m [Rome Gala I Think] & jeremy pretended he got hurt in the start of the race. . . What an asshole [Jeremy Wariner]

  • The race against Wariner was in Sheffield -- search for "Wariner Pistorius" on YouTube.

For the Rome race, search for "Rome Pistorius" -- 2nd place.

  • you are the man!

  • amazing

he is proof that you can acheive anything

  • Oscar, you are one of the best men in the world, in every sense, you inspire people !!!!

  • Awesome commercial.

  • If those tight asses think he has any advantage let them have their legs cut off.

Theyll see what an advantage that is.

Oscar you inspire many people around the world. Good luck to you.

  • thats exactly what I said!

    when I heard about it

  • Im glad to hear it. It seems that there are a few people who think. I cant understand why it is that our TV channels in slovakia have shown Bolts triumph 50 times. They havent shown Pistorius triumph at all...

  • @Alechin125

Research shows (so do times) that bilateral amputees have an advantage over single-leg amputees. Top finishers in the 100m, 200m, and 400m are always bilaterals. It's more than coincidence.

But it's definitely not an advantage over able-body sprinters. No question. Two legs are better than none.

    Just sayin.

  • michael johnson was my fromer hero well I have just added another to my list my god he is great tii bad he couldn't compete

  • he is fukin cool.

  • Andvantage-no advantage, what's the difference? The point here is,this guy has no lower legs, has overcome that ,won his legal fight to try out,and just plain kicks butt!

Instead of downing the guy ,we should all admire his resolve. He has overcome many obsticles in his life,to become a household name. My hat is off to anyone with that much grit! He may not get a gold in the Olympics ,but he's already a gold medalist in life! You rule Oscar, hang in there.

  • unfair advantage? The blades may use 20% less energy but if you look at his records he is hardly up to competing with others.

  • GO Oscar!! Good luck in Pekin 08!!!

  • this is when UNADVANTAGES become ADVANTAGES.

  • WOW..is this for real o.O i really inspire him

  • u mean u ADMIRE him. he INSPIRES u.

  • I admire his willpower. But he has an unfair advantage. He is not carrying the weight of two feet and ankles. They should add some extra weight to each prosthesis.

  • But when there is a advantage there is always is a disadvantage, what you should take into consideration is Oscar doesnt have Dorsal or

Plantar Muscles which is vital for not just sprinters but all atheletes.

  • if, as he says, he just wants to compete in the Olympics, then there are loads of events where he wouldn't have an advantage... archery, pistol-shooting, badminton, boxing, canoeing, cricket, cycling, croquet, diving, equestrian, golf, rowing, table tennis and sailing - all of no interest to him, because they rely on skill and he can't cheat

  • And if he competed in one of those sports, I would be very supportive of his attempt.

  • It's a great story, but it's also a competitive advantage. It's simply not fair to natural-born athletes to deal with Pistorius's manufactured advantage, especially when it's tailored directly to this sport.

If he wanted to compete in a sport where his prosthetic legs are no advantage, I would say let him. But in this situation, it's not right.

  • They should just start a cyborg league! Cause you know more atheletes and regular folks will be tempted by the sweet apple of cybernetic biomechnanical appendages!

  • For all you non believers, Oscar will now run among his peers in the olympics. Let the games begin.

  • c'm on oscar!keep on fighting!you're I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E!ALL THE BEST!

  • I have to say I do not speak as an amputie but as someone who was born with a disability that affects both legs. I agree with magicalgal99 the main reason for the ban is that he is a threat to the so called able bodied people. just cant face that they would lose fairly to a "disabled" guy i guess

  • Hey douche bags if you think you can run with out a leg get out there and do it!! I lost my leg right about where oscar did in august and still cant run

  • OMG this man has had no legs from birth so he does not know what it feels like to be able to run with legs why cant the people accept the fact that this man is talented in running the only reason they are not letting him compete with the able bodied athlete is because he is THREAT to them but they just need to accept this fact he is TALENTED with or without the blades if we hadto vote whether he is allowed to compete or not i would totally vote for him to go to compete with the able bodies!!!!

  • couldnt agree more

  • True will power

  • Nike showing love for disabled athletes!!!!

  • Perdon,me he ekivocado y he puesto el insulto donde no correspondia.

  • THE LEGEND

  • andreasdahl: he also has no legs. do you think that mite offset his "competitive advantage"?

  • My whole point was; these legs are better. (Better for running that is. Not better for jumping, walking in the sand, climing trees, etc. But I guess you figured that out)

  • If anyone thinks its bullshit that he will prob not allowed to participate send me a message to my youtube account. I am setting up a petition to allow him to participate. Id love the responses the more i get the better :)

  • HERO

  • This guy is extremely fast. I am doing a debate on friday about him. If someone would be nice enough to tell me more information about him that would be great. I will take any information, against Oscar or with Oscar. I could even use his personal information if you have any. Thank you.

  • Able bodied athletes are complaining that he's got an unfair advantage in technology. The dudes got half his fuckin legs missing... how's that an advantage? the rest of them have feet!

  • I read this article on wired once. And Oscar (or his trainer, cant remember..) replied the skeptics by saying that maybe the able bodied athletes should cut off their legs if they want this so-called advantage.. :)

  • The blades are made of Carbon, he has an obvious advantage in the weight of the legs

  • maybe you should chop off your legs and become a world-class runner.

  • The deal is:

    1. The carbon legs weigh alot less than real legs.(talking about maybe 15kgs or something)

    2. Do you need oxygen for carbon legs? No. His carbon legs wont get tired, and the spare oxygen he can use on other body parts.

    3. The carbon ancle can take alot more tension than a real on. Which makes him able to produce more speed, without the risk of damaging himself.

All in all, he uses less energy to move faster than an able bodied athlete.

  • Yeah you're absolutely right! If this is allowed everyone else will just start slicing

off thier own arms and legs to be just as good, lets make a stand; This can not be tolerated!

  • gilipollas!!!

  • r u an amputee well im guessing not im missing my left foot and i know personally that none of that shit u said is no where near correct. it takes for a single below the knee amp. %30 more enery just to walk, and this guy is missing both his legs. the only advantage he has is that he's been an amp. all his life which makes him very profecient with his legs.

  • The guys at the olympic cometee agrees with me at least. They had to look into this, and have been running alot of tests on him and the carbon legs. The result was to not allow him to compete against able bodied athletes anymore (at least not in official tournaments), because he has an advantage.

  • AndreasDahl87: Advantage?...Shame on you!, He's missing TWO legs for God's sake!, the carbon legs are not an advantage, they're just a tool to alow him to run, but nobody imagined he would use these tools as a real champion. This man without legs has become a THREAT to steroid-user complete athletes.

  • Put it this way, if one of these sprinters that are already getting golds had been brought up with the exact same disability as Pistorius and used these prosthetics they would be running even faster. No one would probably be able to compete if someone with the right genes could save the energy he does with those prosthetics, that person could set records that no one could be able to break.

  • those "cheetahs" that he uses don't fatigue like human legs do.. its an advantage

  • looks like you'd better get the hack saw ....

  • The legs that he is using may not help him in everyday life, and i am sure that if he could get his legs back he would, but the fact of the matter is that they give him a much higher amount of energy conserved than a normal humans legs, so yes they do give him an advantage.

  • no they don't. See Hsu et al (2000) and their research.

  • i am sorry that you are an amputee, but have you used the things that he is using? they are made for running, they are not like the things that amputees wear usually

  • isn't it a wee bit odd that he's not even using shoes and it's a Nike ad, don'tcha think?

  • nike makes more than shoes....

  • nike makes more than products, they are a trying to be a lifestyle "brand". they wanted to be the transcendence of sports.

  • Awesome guy!!

  • BLADES OF GLORY! JUST DO IT, OSCAR!

  • this guy is incredible!

  • that dude's gonna kick ass!

  • this is really great. especially now he can compete in the able body events.
