Eggman is Robotnik's alias. The US played it off as an insult that Sonic first started calling him in Sonic Adventure and since then he adopted it as his own, BUT in reality, he was always called Eggman, though he was still Robotnik. Case in point, Eggman's always been his nickname/alias/etc. since he was created.

@HyperShadic89 Sonic X just ruined EVERYTHING. I remember when it was first announced how excited I was, but then I saw it...and I was horrified. They got rid of Ryan Drummond (The BEST voice actor for Sonic HANDS DOWN) and its pretty much the point where the entire Sonic franchise stopped growing up with his initial fanbase. I'll admit, hearing him say Dammit for the first time, even if it was that god awful Jason Griffith made me love the franchise even more...then its like they stopped caring

@DreamFireNostalgia I'm not saying I hated Sonic X. Sonic as a character will forever stand for me. But Sonic X could've been so much better than what it was. Compared to the original Japanese version, it was so watered down and cut up, it shouldn't have even been shown. I watched it, but there were times where I wanted to gouge my eyes out with a rusty tooth pick.

And its in the early missions that Sonic says dammit. If I knew it exactly I'd tell you, but he does say it.
