  • What is the compose you play?

  • Fantastic tone and playing. Love the Joe Bonamassa covers too. You're nailing it.

  • @f2kflyer Well thanks my friend! I'm glad you enjoyed the vids!

  • Hey can you explain the 'solo' knob? Is it only engaged via the foot switch?

  • Have you ever heard the Mesa LONESTAR 2x12 cab?

  • @joelg125 I've heard them, but never played on one so I can't really speak from experience. Yet.. the combo itself is essentially a 2x12 open back cab ;)

  • Man - i keep coming back to this video as i wait for my own Lonestar.. Beautiful!

  • @gazuul why thank you! Hope you enjoy your lonestar when you get it!

  • Sounds great! I just got a Lonestar head. Any recommendations on a 2x12 cab?

  • @joelg125 Thanks! I really like the Mesa Recto 2x12 cabs personally.

  • As soon as I get my tax return next week Im also get one. I have been suffering with a vox 15 w modeling amp!

  • i'm in love with your sound. :D

    that's the 1x12 or 2x12 version?

  • @candyman3108 Well thanks! I'm glad you like it! This is the 2x12 version.

  • @JoshSnyderBand One hell of an amp :D

  • I pretty much like the tone at 1:14min. I would gladly know what preferences do you have there? Would you tell me that?

  • @AlbertMamsto The amp settings stayed the same the entire video (the settings are the same as shown in the photo during the video). The changes in tone are just me switching between pickups. 1:14 is a neck pickup switch. Hope this helps!

  • @JoshSnyderBand Thanks a lot. I´ve got the tone...it sounds great...Lonestar is so cool. And your sounds also ;-)

  • @AlbertMamsto Glad the settings worked out for you! Thanks my friend :)

  • @JoshSnyderBand wow , great video ! Im torn between getting this or the 525 express. How do these amps take pedals ?? thanks in advance

  • @tabulaerasae82 Thanks! It has taken every pedal I've ever thrown at it. No issues.

  • Incredible! Love the playing, and the amp sounds amazing. What are you recording with?

  • This tone is a 10 out of 10

  • haha I like how you put Guthrie on the tags. I wonder how he would sound through a Lonestar. Very nice tone man, I'm thinking of buying it. Have you ever played live with it? if so, is it loud enough for bars>

  • @francisco444 I've played live with it countless times. Shes a monster. Can't imagine ever needing more volume.

  • What mic are you using? the crunch sounds really smooth.

  • @BLACKSYNTH Just an Audix i5 is all :), nothing too special.

  • anybody who complains the lonestar doesn't have enough drive needs to listen to this.......cool tones

  • @bettset She sure has enough drive for my liking!

  • forgot to ask....did you leave the celestion 90 in the amp. i really need to get a 2x12 lonestar cab, but the 1x12 amp does sound big as is

  • @bettset Yep, stock speaker.

  • sounds amazing!

  • One person thinks "dislike" means "like x 1,000,000,000"

  • @JoshSnyderBand it sounds alot sweeter than my Dual Caliber DC-10!

  • I just keep watching this over and over again convincing myself I have to buy this amp. Do you suggest combo or half stack? I found a used one for $1600 and I'm feelin' it, man!

  • @cscho12 I love her. I usually experiment with different multi amp rigs and what not....but always end up coming back to just the good ole lonestar. I use mine in both combo and through a 4x12 recto cab. Sounds fantastic through both. Personally....I like buying the combo because it gives u the flexibility of just taking a combo to the show...or bringing the cab along and running it as well!

  • @JoshSnyderBand Is this the natural amp sound or are you also using effects on it?

  • @fendertele62 a TC Electronic Nova System is in the effects loop providing delay and reverb.

  • Is this the 1 x 12" or the 2 x 12"? I can't get enough of these things. Wish I owned one!

  • @jbmfun It's the 2x12 version.

    - Josh

  • thanks for accepting my video response :)

  • Please reply !!!!

  • I think you may have just convinced me to sell one of my arms and one of my legs to purchase one of these! Really nice tones, man!

  • What power mode are you in?

  • @madmmx18976 Full power, the non-tweed setting.

  • great tone and feel - like Eric Johnsons "violin" style !!!

  • Really nice tone and playing! Mesa and PRS ain't inexpensive but the two sound amazing together, especially when played by a guitarist with your ability. Awesome!!!

  • that is a tone & feel to die for........i think its more than just the amp though but it helps.......thats what my fender twin, marshall dsl & orange dual terror would sound like if they could have a baby oh i forgot my 64 bandmaster blonde hey its a girl!

  • Beautiful dude, don't even touch it anymore, weld the knobs, put tape , glue, tooth paste, all you can so they don't move

  • @TenhoMeideia Haha, gave me a good laugh :p. Thanks!

  • I have the same amp. paid 1000 for it. are you running any pedals for that sound. its just great tone. I'm still experimenting with mine.

  • What guitar did you use here?

  • @Recklessroads Paul Reed Smith 513

  • Awesome amp!

  • Great amp!

The cleans on this thing are unbelievable!

    She loVes pedals too!

  • this is hands down the best tone i've ever heard. maybe not because andy timmons tone can't be matched but awesome anyway.

and your playing is as sick as the tone, i have your video on my ipod ( if you don't mind i just helped myself here lol). itunes counts the times i listened to it : 309

  • @John39791 Thanks a bunch man! Very flattered! Glad you enjoyed the vid! Don't forget to check out Josh Snyder Band on itunes! Thanks again!

    - Josh

  • @JoshSnyderBand i'm actually working on the tabs of this on my spare time

    so far i have from 0:00 to 0:12 and from 0:58 to 1:09 ( best part )

but my hear isn't as good as yours so it's kinda hard but it's a cool challenge

is it 100% impro ? what are the artist that may have inspired you in your playing ?

    thanks

  • @John39791 Haha cool cool! Yah this was 100% improv. Just through a mic up in front of the speaker to test tonal possibilities with the amp at the time. As for my inspiration, I'd have to say that the 3 key players are Eric Johnson, Joe Bonamassa, and Andy Timmons for me. And of coarse some of the classic greats: Blackmore, Di meola, etc. :)

    - Josh

  • @JoshSnyderBand ehhhhhh....nice influences!

  • @JoshSnyderBand Wow ! Damn I'd love to jam with you sometime, you just named all my heroes ! I have to add Quinten Hope and Eric Clapton to that list, but that about sums it up! Your tone is amazing ! My lonestar doesn't want to sound like this, neither does the stiletto, but its getting there. ~ Sean

  • @pilotSSW You're too kind! Glad you enjoyed it.

    - Josh

  • Messa Boogie, there is no other. Nice chops bravo!

  • The tone on this video and your playing are amazing.....very Eric Johnson like

  • @ROCKERDC89 Thanks mate!

  • The Mesa sound is a triumph of tone.

  • Hey Josh, nice tone! I have the same Mesa LS and cant quite dial in the beautiful tone your getting (especially at at low volume). Do you have any suggestions or would you consider posting your settings on front and back of amp? I have been trying to dial this in for almost 10 days now and have almost given up.

  • @rrick2007 Hi Rick, I'll see if I can help ya a bit here. The settings for the recording are actually EXACTLY like they are in the static picture here due to it being shot right after recording the clip. So you can just copy the settings depicted here and that should land ya where I had the knobs! Pop a delay in the effects loop of the amp if you want the atmosphere. Dial in the onboard reverb to taste (i use the bright switch). Thick voicing, 10 watts, drive engaged.

  • Thx Josh..................

I set up my LS yesterday with those settings as a starting point. It made a world of difference. I thought it sounded great with the Mesa Boogie 6L6 tubes, but I havent tried anything else. Am i correct in that your not a fan of the Mesa Boogie tubes? What exactly are you now using? I'm currently experimenting. I liked the other clip of JSB you have posted.Rick

  • @rrick2007 Hey Rick, Glad these settings helped ya out. You are correct, I really do not like the stock Mesa tubes that they ship with their amps and try to resell you. You will be amazed at the tone difference between tubes, ESPECIALLY preamp tubes! Unfortunately, the best way to test em, is find an amp tech that will let you sit there and swap out sets (and combine them) to your liking. I have a smattering of preamp tubes in it right now but the power tubes ended up being JJ.

    - Josh

  • @rrick2007 Dont forget to check out Josh Snyder Band on itunes! Second album release is due for this summer as well!

  • I sure will....................You Tube Chris Manning Band to check out my project if you get some time.

  • @JoshSnyderBand You bet!!!!!! Thx again. You Tube my band if you have time (Chris Manning Band)

  • @rrick2007 Thx Josh....you rock

  • Very Andy Timmons.

  • Now that my is a great tone! and great playing as well.. I play through a Vavletrain 427 but this has 10 times the tone! next to my Musicman this is a close 2nd.

  • I hated every mesa I ever bought, I loved and respected the build quality and dedication of the company but hated that grainy sandy constipated grunting distortion of the mesas that was unshapable without banging on the instrument... but this lone star is a horse of a different color.... its a new direction for mesa and being a big Andy Timmons fan his demo of this amp convinced me to buy one. Every demo of this amp has 3D cleans and sweet distortion with soul. Okay here I go to buy one now...

  • Hey Josh, I was wondering how you set the output and send levels for the loop, when i turn mine down, it tends to sound very muffled. If i turn them up, its way too loud. Any tips?

  • @mdelgado59 Sure man. For me and my current setup, it seems that the "magic spot" on the send level is always about 1 oclock (or right at the "+" sign on the send level symbol on the back of the amp). As for return, I always just matched the volume levels for both channels sonically with my ears....no magic number here unfortunately : /. Hope this helps man!

    - Josh

  • @JoshSnyderBand Thanks man. I usually left them both at twelve but now it sounds better and my ears dont hurt haha.

  • @mdelgado59 No problem man! Glad it worked for ya! Don't forget to check out Josh Snyder Band on itunes to hear the rig in action!

    - Josh

  • Do you still like the amp, hows the reliabilty been?

  • @nylonsteel Love the amp! Reliability was a real problem with their tubes though....not gonna lie. Not only do they load it with junk chinese tubes...but they try to resell you the same ones. Not cool. Loaded it with some old vintage tubes.....it's a thing of beauty.

  • @JoshSnyderBand Just out of curiosity, did it sound better when you put new tubes (that weren't mesa branded) and how did the amp take to them. The only other thing I was curious of, was how loud you had your amp in this video. It looks like a solid picture, but my amp at that volume sounded nothing like this. It was so harsh and thin it wasn't funny. My stiletto ace is the same way, a little fuller, but still not great.

    Thanks !

    ~ Sean

  • @pilotSSW Hey Sean, the amp sounded 50 times better once I loaded it with the non-Mesa branded tubes. I would stack her against some $4000 head brands without hesitation now. The amp runs soooo much more reliably and solid now as well.

As for the volume in this clip:

I shot this photo right after putting the guitar down from recording, so all the knobs were set exactly how they were while I was playing. I was doing low volume tone tests at the time because someone was trying to watch tv lol

  • @JoshSnyderBand That's pretty incredible, maybe I'll have to post a clip of mine. I had the JJ's in and I thought it actually got flubbier. I just can't seem to get a tight sounding bedroom volume overdrive sound. Yours kills though, maybe my amps just a dud :/

  • Ya...the lowend is a beast that needs taming when it comes to the lonestars : /. It's nice to have an amp that has such fat low end...but..honestly.....they should have atleast made the bass knob usable.. lol. If its anything over 9 oclock on the OD channel it just turns to mashed potatoes on the bottom. Way too much bottom....runs away from ya reallll quick if you're not careful lol

    - Josh

  • I love the sound. Where's the reverb coming from, some post processing I think? sounds nice

  • Oh shoot man...Didn't know, they are stuffing this nice amp with crappy tubes !! I though, these are high quality, top to bottom. But thanks for tip !! I check your music on ITunes for sure.

  • Thank you so much for great video that shows what this amp is like. I'm looking for great one too and gotta say, that after all these over the top pieces with distortion( like Line6 ) is nice to hear really nice and clean sounding amp. I guess this and Stilletto are my main ones. Can't decide on one. Do you have opinion on these two?

Btw I really dig your playing.

  • @checkie4ever I've actually never had the pleasure of playing on the stiletto, though I have always wanted to. As far as the lonestar goes...once you rip out the crap chinese tubes they put in from the factory, and replace them with quality tubes to your ears liking.....they are absolutely phenomenal!!! Love the amp!

Check out Josh Snyder Band on itunes if you would like to hear the amp on an album! Thanks again!

    - Josh

  • @JoshSnyderBand

what tubes did put in ? i'm asking coz your tone is very similar to a hot rodded late 60's twin i heard a couple of years ago, both very cool !

  • @pashton45 The tubes in this vid clip/tone test are actually the stock ones. I have since re loaded it....sounds like a completely different amp. I should do another vid with the current tubes/settings. I loaded it with JJ 6L6's in the power section, and some ollddddddd preamp 12ax7s from 1954 "westinghouse".

    - Josh

  • Just lovely sound! pure mesa... have u tried the mark V ? i bought the combo last year, and love it! I heard u played with saraya? I just found out about that band which just sounds amazing !!! catchy tunes!!!

  • @shreddingjoris

Im glad you like the tones my friend! As for the band "Saraya", Ive never heard of them : /. I am a solo artist (Josh Snyder Band) Hope this helps!

    - Josh

  • Very nice phrasing & tone. Do you have a delay in the loop or post-process somewhere? Doesn't sound like spring reverb only.

  • Realy nice tone!

  • hi josh,

are you using single coils or hb, and which model,

    amzing tone by the way

  • @TommyDai1 For this video, the pickup selections were medium output humbuckers. I didn't use any of the single coils in the guitar. Glad you enjoyed the video :)

  • nice amp, tone & picking..can i ask you why you chose the classic over the special and what are the differences between the two..? thanx

  • @MOSKII58 I actually used to own the lonestar special. In my humble opinion: the LSS is a watered down, soggy version of the LS classic. The amp collapses VERY quickly and is rather generic in both its tone and response. I'd skip it and check out the classic personally.

  • this has to be the best tone ever! Too bad it's quite expensive..

  • Killer Tone & Killer chops, Great stuff Josh. Going to pick up one these for my alter side of playing as well.

  • Can you try to get an andy timmons tone?

  • Nice test, sounds really creamy, I love it.

  • Very Timmons-like. Great job, man!! I assume it shoudn't be hard to get a good tone out of that amp. Of course, good licks help too. Congrats!!

  • tone... sonds buckethead-like.

  • Hey Josh,

Is this a Lone Star Special?

    Thanks,

    P

  • @pkakac Nope, a classic.

    - Josh

  • I'm assuming that's the 1/2 clean and 1/2 distorted channel? I just bought the same amp last week. Have you messed with the rectifier/diode switch in the back of the pre-amp? It sounds like that Nova system is really adding a nice flavor to your tone...

    P

  • @pkakac This demo is completely done on channel 2. I'm a volume knob rider, so i just use the volume knob on the guitar to vary the level of saturation/overdrive on the fly. glad you like the sound! Hope you enjoy the amp!

  • is that a 1x12 or a 2x12?

  • Sounds great man! I have been playing thru a Lonestar 2 x 12 for 7 years now.It has never let me down!I use it quite different than most players---I dont use any distortion from the amp.I keep it on channel 2 with the drive switch off so I can dial in a beautiful fat/warm round clean tone. All my dirt comes from pedals(Mainly Lovepedals and a Barber Direct Drive...very well made pedals!)I run a Mad Proffesor Deep Blue Delay thru the effects loop and the tone just drips from my Lonestar!

    Peace

  • @zososhep Hi, man. I type from Brazil and I lookinf for information about good amps to import one. Help me with this question: people use to say that Lonestar has not a good sound to play heavy metal music.Listening the demos I think it is possible to make good adjusts in this amp to find this sound. So, I dont agreed this opinion of the people. What do you think about this? ( PS. I play blues but I need to play some Irons Musics e White Snake too).

  • @janslesp Hi, my personal opinion would be this is not the first amp of choice for metal/hard rock tones. It is an incredibly well built amp and with the right pedals in front of it you can get any tone you want.I do not use the overdrive from the amp---I prefer keeping it on the clean channel and I use a Lovepedal amp 11, Fuchs Plush Cream overdrive and a Barber Direct Drive.Between those three there really isnt a tone I cant get! There are way better choices for metal, but this is a GREAT amp!

  • Sounds awesome! I just got the new Lone Star head and a Lonestar 2x12 cab and I can't seem to get that kind of tone yet. What guitar are you using? I'm using a tele and a strat and I just got the nova system yesterday but I haven't tried it out yet; are you using yours in the fx loop or in the front of the amp?

  • Nice sound, is the Nova system what you're using for delay? Is the Nova System true bypass? Thanks, Chris

  • @stchrismusic Yep the Nova system is my one and only effects unit that I run. And Technically the system is not actually true bypass. Hope this helps!

    - Josh

  • @stchrismusic Awesome tone. I own the same amp and can't get a bad sound.......minus some tube jangle...otherwise this is the only amp I have played that gets that uber thick tone. This is about the tenth time I've listened to this. Thanks for the post.

  • just gorgeous! great shit man! keep it up!

  • Did yours sound like this right out of the box ? Mine doesnt sound remotely close to this and I've had it for a year and a half

  • @pilotSSW Hey man, this clip was recorded after only a few days of owning the amp. So this is what I arrived at after tweaking the knobs for a few days ;p. The lonestars are unusual beasts when it comes to EQ'ing. Don't be afraid to use odd EQ settings from what you're used to on other amps. Just really try to block out the thought of numbers or amounts on your EQ and just use your ears to shape the sound as u see fit. (sounds obvious but it is easy to get caught up in) :)

    - Josh

  • @JoshSnyderBand

Thanks ! I appreciate it, did the amp sound just like this in the room, or when you listened back to the recording did it sound different ? My amp doesnt sound like this, theres some inherent grain in the amp that doesnt want to leave, yours sound like a flowing waterfall. It's amazing !

  • @pilotSSW Im glad you like it man! In regards to how the amp sounds in a room, the lonestar is honestly one of the creamiest amps that I've ever used. It really depends on how you drive the amp itself though. I HAVE heard some "grainy" tones come out of it when you turn the master down way low, and just use the gain knob to try to get the saturation. I don't run the amp like this though, I crank the amps power section which smoothes out the tone. Hope this helps!!

    -Josh

  • @pilotSSW its important to consider the EQ as part of the gain stage and bear that in mind when adjusting the settings.. i found mine quite hard to set at first.. i reccomend reading the instructions though.. they really give you an idea of how much scope this amp has if you know how to dial it in..

  • Great tone! I was just wondering - Have you had any problems with this amp since you got it? I hear that there have been a lot of problems with the Lonestar amps. What do you think about that?

  • @zaulkin Everyone I know(myself included) has had NO problems with the Lonestar. What sort of problems have you heard folks were having? My Lonestar 2x12 has been to many many gigs with me and has NEVER let me down! These baby's are built to gig with, they are built for the road(unlike several other very expensive "Boutique" amps).DSont ever let "something you heard" hold you back man...go try one for your self.Play it thru every setting etc... then decide whats good for you.Boogies rule!

  • wow, those are some fantastic sounds coming from your Mesa ....Really enhances your tasty playing.....Great stuff!

  • Lovely!

  • this seems like the perfect amp for blues and rock... very nicely done sir!

  • Absolutely gorgeous tone.

  • Your tone is sweet man. That's the reason I almost bought a Mesa Lonestar ha ha. It's awesome. Very andy timmons but definitely with your own flair. And that tape delay sounds great.

  • @tjhotdog Why thank you sir!! :)

  • I love MESA!

  • what are your settings, toggle switches and all?

  • This amp may be fine for sounds like Bonamassa and Eric Johnson with this type or a BB preamp and a good analog delay? Or is it recommended Stiletto?

  • @manuelslowhand They both work man :) It's really just preference. They are both fantastic amps!

    - Josh

  • Killer sound and awesome playing! :)

  • awesome tone dude - care to share the settings on this ? Simon

  • sorry, one more question, the distortion and the efects are all the amp?

    tanks ;)

  • @MasterJoao The overdrive is purely the amp. The effects are from a TC Electronic Nova System in the amps effects loop. The guitar used was a Paul Reed Smith 513. Thanks for the kind words! :)

    - Josh

  • hey ;) sound's very nice, i like this andy timmons tone. five stars

what guitar you using in this video?

  • Are you using a delay or is that the reverb?

  • @kwilson27278 Both :). There is a slight tape emulated delay of about 400 ms. And a reverb. Both coming from a TC electronics Nova system.

    - Josh

  • I can't get over how awesome this amp sounds. Incredible demo.

  • @homersimps1 Why thank you!!!! :D

  • Nice fat tone, very impressive, good luck with it!!

  • @cast390 Thank you sir :). I'm currently trying to find the time to throw up a recording of my current rig. I am now using the Lonestar in unison with a Bogner Shiva in split stereo. I'll get clips up as soon as I can!

    - Josh

  • nice sound n chops !! what guitar are u using ? and what wattage ? 10/50/100 ? or what ??

  • wow, great tone! i was listening to the great shawn lane right before seeing this video, and the sound is damn close! keep rockin'..

  • great sound!! did you use a prs 513 ?? any pedals?

  • I just got mine straight out of the box and there is an updated version as of this month...all of the tubes are in a metal cage and some of the back is rearanged...pretty sweet!!!!!!!

  • Josh, I've had mine for 3 years since new (its the latest model) - I play jazz, blues, soul and some rock and use lots of gain - its not a problem for me. If I've needed more, I've used a Fulltone ICD through the clean channel and it bigs it up nicely.

  • @monstermax22 Yes sir indeed. Great articulate amps! Loves (quality) pedals too!

Very transparent FX loop I must say as well.

    - Josh

  • @monstermax22 hey thanks for that, i was looking at either this or the stiletto ace combo.. im torn between the two! the lonestar just sounds so fat and creamy.. but the stiletto may accomodate more styles.. such a tough choice! but i may have to try the lonestar with some pedals to see if i can get a searing lead sound of it..

  • @opilus - hi there. If thats what you're deciding between, then do try both, as they do different things. I picked the LS because I like the enormous headroom and sweet, bouncy, crystal clear tone offered by 6L6s - I love Larry Carlton, so its a sensible choice. Think of it as a super-potent, far better built, sweeter sounding Fender Twin. The Ace has a different voicing.

  • @monstermax22 One of my favorite things about the LS is its ability to go from all the bounce/sponge you could want, to verry tight and immediate with flick of a few switches. Run it on 10 watts with the tube rectifier in line and its very elastic-y ...( new word? ... ;p). OR, you can run it on 100 watts with the diodes in line and boom....immediate response and attack. Which is what I prefer :D

  • @JoshSnyderBand yeah, me too. Does love pedals. Just try it with a Keeley Compressor!! Did look at changing it for a Mark V, but decided against - prefer my LS. I intend buying another one soon.

  • Kudos on the great demo! I know the Lonestar is usually marketed and played as a texas blues/roots amp, but in this demo of yours, there are some moments when it strays into some beautiful Dumble-esque tone territory. I'd love to hear what this amp could do with a Zendrive or Ethos driving the front end.

  • @freakybuzz The Zendrive works really nice with the clean or lead channel of the Lonestar Classic. I use the Zendrive for a long time, but switched back to the Xotic BB Preamp AT and AC Booster Comp Custom Shop (which sounds pretty much like the Zendrive). I will try to up load some more videos. Feel free to check out my vids. Peace, -G.

  • sounds awsome!! is this tone just the lone star or are you using something infront of it? also is this the 112 version or the 212 version?

  • @opilus This is just straight Lonestar tone. No pedals infront. It's the 2x12 version....she's a beast.

    - Josh

  • @JoshSnyderBand im pretty set on getting one, but my only concern is that it might not have enough gain should i need it... im not a metal head or anything, but i do play stuff like AC/DC and Gary Moore as well as lower gain blues.. do you ever use this for hard rock? maybe with a pedal or something?

  • @opilus Well to be honest, Angus and Gary use pretttttty low gain settings by today's standards. HardRock is childs play for the amp, but it WILL be an american hardrock sound. Not a british EL34 rock sound (which both of those guys use). I'm a firm believer in the fact that one single amp can't cover all your sonic grounds. So I use multiples ;p. This amp does the shimmering 6l6 cleans and the fat/rich overdrive thing verywell.

  • @opilus

with a tube screamer i can get anything from an adam jones - tool sound with a PRS ... to steve vai style leads with a JEM... try out some boosters with this amp it responds very well to them

  • @topperspoppers thanks, thats a good tip, ill give the tube screamer a go when im trying the amp out next

  • @opilus you should no problem man, especially if you have a bb preamp in front of it. andy timmons rocks this amp out no problem. amazing tone

  • It sounds great. Nice demo.

  • dude
