I think it means even though she knew she could just quit and stay away from every single thing that scared the sh*t outta her she fought against it. Although she may seem simple she isn't. Away from her friends,familiy she was in this place with everthing unpredictable and designed to trouble her. What would have you done if you were in that situation ? It was a world stuck in time, full of lunatics and mad people, while a normal little girl was stuck their running around with the mad people . Having Alice's dream turn into her own nightmare. (:

When it said "she locked herself in limbo" I think it ment that she locked herself in the after life between heaven and hell. it could also mean that she was stuck between two things and locked herself in the middle so she didn't have to choose. The line could be taken in many different ways.
