  • Beautiful playing. Just thinking of him today.

  • I was listening to Jack Tone Riordan when I saw Smith's name associated with the band.

I checked here happily to find him, but sadly, So sadly to see that he's passed.

I used to see Smith play every week at Garden City in the 80's. I've seen him play with the heaviest of hitters like Joe Pass, Joshua Breakstone & Phil Woods to who were up and coming players of the time such as Larry Grenadier and so many others. He was Always so gracious!

My Condolences to the family... he is sorely missed!

    R~

  • What a beautiful player and person. . .

I remember so vividly how well be backed me up at Garden City. Very suportave.

No ego here, just heartfelt joy.

    Really miss him.

  • The most harmonically beautiful pianist I ever had the privilege to play with. Smith had Wendelle Brunious and I out from New Orleans, to play at Garden City. Smith was a beautiful man with such a great family. Miss him.

  • good thing I can hear with tears in my eyes....I miss the good old days at Garden City, going on Tuesday nites was a highlight of my week.......Smith is truly missed.....such an amazing musician....I loved when he'd sing....

    oy...

  • I had the pleasure of playing with Smith when he sat in with us at S F Statue University. He had long hair and recorded shortly therafther with Lydia Pense and cold blood. He had that rare combination in my opinion of soul and technical virtuosity. He was also gracisous and charming..rare for his talent level.

  • Whose on bass and drums?

  • it says at the begining

  • In my opinion, this is the best video so far of my Dads' playing. I had the privaledge of being right next to him, playing along side him for so many years, this "Body and Soul" reminds me of his complete ability to know every harmonic avenue of a Jazz standard. He does alot of his wonderful tricks here too! His chord voicings and melodic virtuosity were the work of a magician, a master. I hope more people see this.

  • Damn it I miss Smith....
