  • great video :D I hope everyone had a nice Hanukkah last year!

  • I know its a little late, but merry christmas.

  • haha! happy hanukkah!

  • This thing is on the Sprout Channel now. Yes, I know I just openly admitted to watching Sprout. -_-

  • TODAYS THE 1ST NIGHT OF CHANUKAH!!!!!!!!!! HAPPY CHANUKAH PEOPLES!!!!!!!!

  • הלכה בידוע שעשיו שונא ליעקב, זאת הלכה, משמע שהם לא צריכים סיבה לשנוא אותנו זה טבעי

  • I loved ot very cute.

  • what's with all the celebrating customs just they way they wanted to?

  • PROUD TO BE A JEW :L

  • Cute but doesn't show the chanuka story at all. A little disappointing...

  • חמוד! גאווה להיות יהודיה!

  • Christmas is Better!

  • We're Christian, and my 5 y/o son came home from school today and asked about Hanukkah because he had learned (in preschool) that they had 8 lights; he wanted to know why. This video was perfect for him. Thanks!

  • What about the Israelites?

  • this is great, thanks, I will show it to my school children in class tomorrow. I learned something.

  • Proud to be a jew

  • @Bliber199 That is so touching. I'm proud to be one, too

  • NO FREAKING WAY! LOVE HIM NOW!

  • Pretty mild compared to the real story.

  • Hanukkah 2011 - All Of The Lights!!!

    /watch?v=9aY2r1k3ZEs

  • delicious delicious butthurt.

  • Pass the parcel.

  • NUKE KIKES AND AFRICA

  • where is the tolerance? That was cute! I celebrate Hanunkkah, it is fun. Im not Jewish.

  • Where's the "tolerance"? That was cute!I Celabrate Hannaka too !! Its alot of fun,i'm not Jewish :)

  • Hanukkah is awesome!!! My little brother watched this during Hanukkah and loved it!!!!

    P.S. We're Jewish :)

  • Elmo tells it as it is. Hanukkah is a good holiday. It celebrates religious and cultural freedom and such.

  • they did not say "God" ONE time. thats ridiculous

  • @queenme595 Maybe Elmo is an Atheist. lol.

  • @Unrequited117 The beast should not be in that country!

  • @sidecrank WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?

  • People obviously have a lot of misconceptions about other cultures and religions. That's why if you don't belong to a certain nation or religion or haven't learned about them you should probably keep your damn mouth shut! If you don't know about something keep the crap to yourself.

  • @sidecrank You don't have to take my word for it. Read the book of Maccabees 4 yourself and see 4 yourself how they resisted being forced to worship Greek gods and embrace Hellenization. Just google book of Maccabees or something. If you look into it yourself and question what you read and hear from haters you'll find the truth. That's the best way to find something out. Look by yourself and be open minded about it.

  • @GenerationX1984 I think I may have read it in one of Dr Duke's books.

  • @sidecrank I don't think Duke writes honest books. I've looked into the culture of Jews for myself and hope to be a cultural anthropologist someday. If you read Maccabees, which isn't canonized scripture by most but contains the story of Hanukkah, you'll see that the holiday actually celebrates freedom of religion for ancient people in Israel during the time of Alexander the Great. Just like this video says. This video actually gives a pretty good account of what Hanukkah is.

  • @GenerationX1984 Why does not Dr Duke write honest books? Because he dares to question Jews? Does that make him automatically dishonest? Perhaps you should be more open minded? Hanukkah is the celebration of murder.

  • @sidecrank No. It's not. Read Maccabees. Just because some former KKK member tells you something doesn't make it true. It makes it false because a former KKK member said it. Most people would agree.

  • @sidecrank You are a paranoid witch hunter who likes to scape goat Jews. Never believe anything written by any ONE person. EVER. Read Maccabees. Then comment back if you see anything that celebrates murder in the Hanukkah story. Let me know if you find anything.

  • @GenerationX1984 Oh hear we go, you people always result to insult and aggression. Your time of misleading the world is coming to an end. The cattle are being educated. Hanukkah is a celebration and teaching of anti assimilation for the Jews.

  • @sidecrank Please read Maccabees. It's about freedom of religion. Same as the story of William Wallace is about freedom for Scotland. People don't like being oppressed by foreign nations. I don't believe in conspiracy theories. Especially if they target an entire race or religion like a middle age witch hunt. Sorry.

  • @GenerationX1984 Do you think the Palestinians like what has been happening to them since 1948? Oh sorry they are not Jewish so we can dismiss their pain and suffering?

  • @sidecrank I agree. The murders committed by both sides are terrible. Religion should never be an issue. Both religions believe in God. But Palestinians are Arab with little ancient history attached to Israel aside from the Nabatean Arabs who lived there. And that has nothing to do with Maccabees or Antiochus, the conqueror. Maybe people would be more excepting of Islam if they didn't have such an accepting view on suicide and suicide bombing. If KABOOM is how Allah is merciful then I'm scared.

  • @GenerationX1984 Well I suppose the situation is so hopeless for the Palestinians that they are wide open to the nut cases that use religion to further their perverted aims. You have to agree that the Israeli deaths are very small compared to the many thousands of Arab deaths. I stay away from religion and try to follow the teaching - Love your enemy.

  • @sidecrank Also, why is it that every time an Arab arrives in a foreign country it automatically belongs to him and Islam is the only right way of life there? Why do Arabs in Iraq have more rights than Kurds or Assyrians who were there first? Muslim Arabs have oppressed entire ethnic groups in the Middle East for too long. Enough is enough.

  • @sidecrank if you look at the history, all of the Arab countries attacked Israel, just because Israel is REALLY good at defending it's self (and understandably so, they will never allow for something as terrible as the holocaust happen to them again). I believe Israel has been more than generous in it's victories, even returning land that they captured (legally according to U.N. codes mind you). but i agree, it'd be amazing and wonderful if all of this senseless violence could just end.

  • @sidecrank If you read what's in Maccabees you can easily do a side by side comparison that will either establish and authenticate or debunk whatever some former KKK member says is in the Hanukkah tradition. Only an ignorant person would refuse to investigate it for themselves or talk to people who celebrate it. All cultures have their traditional ways and somebody is always trying to lie about them. People are nasty like that. Hope you find the answers you're looking for. Good luck to you! :)

  • I admire all cultures that stood up to oppression and resisted. The Chines for resisting the Japs during WWII. The Scots for resisting the English. And even the Jews for resisting Hellenization when Alexander the Great was taking over the civilized world. That's the story of Hanukkah. A story of resisting fascism.

  • @sidecrank FALSE!!!! DIDNT YOU WATCH THE VIDEO???!!!

  • Yeah im not a real fan of Jews but i can keep my mouth shut about it. But if ur a Jew and it's Hanukkah, happy Hannukah i guess?

  • Tht tv has more channels than cable :p

  • I love this!!!!

  • wow... all these comments are really making me sick. why does everyone hate Jews? I really dont get it. They've been hated since the beginning of time, Hitler did HORRIBLE things to them. And Sesame Street isn't saying Hanukah isn't the "best" holiday. It's just that mostly everything's all X-mas specials and they want to teach children about Hanukah, or let all the Jewish kids know they're not being left out.

  • @clubpenguinnub I couldn't have said it any better. Thanks for posting this, it's nice to know not everyone's so hateful and just plain ignorant.

    Happy Holidays!

  • @clubpenguinnub

    Very well put my friend!

  • @clubpenguinnub I totally agree with you, fellow cp player. I'm jewish so i think your'e right. :)

  • @clubpenguinnub I don't get why people hate Jews either. Probably cause their mommy and daddy told them lies about Jews that were told to them as children. Naive people usually believe what they're told as little children. That's why so many people grow up all screwed up in the head. Also, they might belong to a stupid group or religion that promotes bigotry. That happens a lot too.

  • @clubpenguinnub And let's face it. Some parents don't teach their kids to be open minded at all. For fear that they will disagree with the stupid, illogical, nonsense ideas they work hard to instill in their kids. Same as many churches don't teach their members to ask questions or give their own opinions during church. At some churches the pastor is pretty much God because nobody questions him. The masses can't get up in front of the congregation and share their own spiritual feelings about God.

  • @clubpenguinnub I am Jewish and I appreciate your comment! Shalom

  • @clubpenguinnub Jeasously probably. The Jews made themselves successful after being shunned in the Middle Ages. Due to that shunning they survived the plague for the most part because of their isolation.

  • @clubpenguinnub Thank you, we Hebrews are left out in many things

  • @Xboxcrusader yea a 12 year old by the name of XBoxcrusader which clearly means you probably aren't capable of critical thinking is supporting the politicl system of fascism which you probably don't understand and also thinks babies being murdered is funny, pleas direct yourself to the nearest noose

  • @Xboxcrusader What the fuck?

  • @clubpenguinnub Dude, don't worry, we Jews have been going strong for thousands of years, a couple of pissed off youtube people aren't gonna bring us down. but thanks for sticking up for us.

  • @clubpenguinnub They are many reasons why!

  • @nohope4this1

    jerk

  • i reaserched and studied it, i was wrong. sorry everyone! sorry veronica monica and elmo! :(

  • Jews jews jews i prefer to celibrate christmass

we get 8 days of presents

    FTW XD

  • @tylerisawsomeiknow

...and you love it so much you added an extra s

  • go to god

  • This is slot of info for lil kids but it still gud

  • it's amazing how american TV can take ha shem out of anything! lo tov!

  • That was probably just b/c they weren't good at math and thought all that oil would only last a day.

  • @TheNanakDev agree

  • I -3 Elmo

  • Well, it's in a nutshell, and it's not like they got anything wrong

  • @MasterofDuckies Sorry to burst your bubble, but it is scientifically impossible to disprove something. The burden of evidence is on the person making the claim.

  • @Shonomad, dude you can't spell at all

  • oh yah, lets not forget the massacres.

  • It's a celebration of lights, the miracle of it lasting eight days, it's Sesame Street answering some questions a child might ask. Let it be. If you have questions just ask. This isn't the place to make comments that a child might see and read. And it's sad that a perpson might lower him/herself to write comments that are so hurtful. And yes, I will always be a child in my heart.

  • L o L

  • Please stop it with the religious debates on every freakin' video that mentions Judaism! No haters! This is an innocuous kids' video educating them on diversity. Chag Sameach Chanukah!

  • Everyone knows atheists are the best :)

  • Seriously? Sesame street has dropped to a new low... Saying jewish is the only religion. if they do a thing on other religions I'll be fine but for now screw sesame street racist fucks say thats the best religion fuck now I'm pissed off all regions are the fucking say I don't care if they have one or more gods there all the fucking same! fuck the world

  • TV's to politically correct to say God

  • @wung97 That leads us to our next lesson, obviously the Catholic Hospitals weren't too terribly smart with their money. They may have worked hard for the money that they earned, but if they're spending it on plasma screen television sets for each patient, that's their problem. It isn't just that Jewish people are rich because they're Jewish, that's ridiculous.

  • @Kaleyoday Kwanza is not really a religiou holiday. it is actually the oopposite

  • this is completely inaccurate

  • @wung97 so why not use your brains positively like we do instead of wasting all your energy on hate mongering?

  • Make that 93 :D and no that's not why, it's cause public tv + little kids + religion = FAYUL!!!

  • 92 people love hitler.

  • Happy Hanukkah!

  • @ZaeViola y do u think that? is it propoganda?

  • i have but one thing to say to all you bored and lonely anti-semites trying to start beef on a musicians video... you mad?

  • Regardless of the real story, this video is great, people should respect all faiths regardless of blief and also observe decency in their comments, hate is one of the lowest kind of feelings that a person expresses out of fear and lack of intelligence. I have never seen so much hate against anyone as that of the anti-Semites that poison anything just to show their indecency and disregard for the audience. Hatemongers are the real cause of war and no prospect for Peace and prosperity for humanity

  • Wow the Zionist agenda starts them young don't they?

  • HAHAHA I saw the title and fell down laughing LMFAO

  • Go to gonzalez777100 and see kid jump off house to a jumper and break his leg.....nnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaassssssstttttyyyy

  • good

  • Why does Judah Maccabee look like Dudley Doright?

  • Four things: 1.) I laughed so hard when the TV jumped outta nowhere because it looked like it burst through the ceiling. XD 2.) Is it just me, or does Judah sound like Zapp Brannigan? Or...like some else...? 3.) I love how when Veronica Monica narrates, someone has to say what she just said. 4.) Sesame Street is AWESOME!

  • @adwa10 u intolerant bro?

  • It's good that sesame street is showing kids other colters in America but it made me think for the longest time when I was a kid that people actually celebrate kwanza.

  • this is so wird!!! but funny!

  • There are a lot of really annoying, hateful, and racist comments here. I guess I should be shocked.

Anyway, all I want to know is if the voice of the oil lamp is Kristen Schall. It sounds like her.

  • wow

  • yo, first of all, this story isn't fully correct, some stuff is missing and other's added, nothing personal, but jews known in changing history, i mean, they even changed their own ''hebrew bible'' to gain the right of being ''best god's creatures'' and have the world in their hands... As u see now

  • Judah Macabee wasn't doing what he wanted to do, he did the will of G-D! This is so twisted and disgusting to water down this event down! There were 3 main Torah commandments that the Syrian Greeks forbid the Jews to obey: Rosh Chodesh (Jewish calendar), Circumcision, and Torah study. (The Jews could only learn the prophets section of the Hebrew bible as the Greeks saw it as a purely historical learning.

  • @Shlomo613 its sesame street....chill out

  • why do we have to be so politically correct. i mean seriously "its not b.c. or a.d. anymore, its bce and ce" no! its before christ and after his death. deal with it

  • That sucks that Jews couldn't practice their culture. Maybe 76 people can go to a foreign country and tell those people they can't practice their culture either.

  • good

  • fgdss

  • Sdfu

  • I am proud to be Jewish ; and human . We believe in god , and were just people . Don't hate ...

  • @arte1fiorino

Furthermore, the abbreviations "B.C." and "A.D." are now only used in religious contexts, as they depend upon an unscientific, unprooven, Christian falacy.

Instead, "B.C.E." (for "B.C.") and "C.E." (for "A.D.") are used. "B.C.E." stands for "Before the Current Era", and "C.E." stands for "Current Era".

  • You are correct concerning AD........I'm one of the few that says it although I'm incorrect. Thank you for clearing in up!!

  • @arte1fiorino

I get your point, but I feel I must correct you here.

"A.D." actually stands for the Latin phrase "Amino Domini" (sp), which means "in the year of our Lord". Also, year 1 is supposed to be the year Jesus was BORN, not the year he _died_.

  • Wow elmo was kinda forceful I mean he commanded tv to turn on he didn't even say please!

  • @vaginawarden

what the fuck is wrong with u? they are people like me and others (not u). are u a christan? Cause heres a little history for ya

jews, christans, and something else i forgot all staeted from islam(i think. or maby jews) anyway why hate 'em?

    ass

  • If Jews and Christians came from Islam then explain this piece of factual history.........

Born in Mecca, in western Arabia, Muhammad (570–632 AD), last in the line of Judeo-Christian prophets, received his first revelation in 610.

    Source: The Birth of Islam

By the way AD means after the death of Jesus!!

  • @artie1fiorino Nope. AD means Anno Domini, meaning year of our Lord.

    Google it.

  • @dualbladedroxas Um. Judhaism is older than Islam. Moses came way before Mohammed. And both Moses and Jesus are mentioned in Islam, making Islam the youngest of the Abrahamic religions. Just sayin.

But Abrahamic religions aren't the oldest either; they date back to only 1800 BC. Hinduism, Sumerian religion and Zoroastrianism are the world's oldest *known* religions. Just some fun facts. =) btw, Vaginawarden is a troll. don't feed them.

  • @PopCultureTart Modern Judaism is based around the oral laws and Babylonian TALMUD. It is descended from the Pharisee sect.

It is not the same religion as way back when.

  • @ExposeZionistCrimes I never said it was the same. No religion is the same today as it was when it started out. It'd be naive to think otherwise. So I don't see your point.

  • I am christian and I thank you very much for this video, it help me to understand the meaning and origen of the celebration of Hanukkah. God bless you all.

  • @YouserNayum

Is it always this easy to troll you?

  • @Vikashar

Is it easy to fall for my sarcasm?

  • @YouserNayum

Bwa ha ha. You wrote an entire wall of text rebuking me for randomly insulting you on the internet. You mad, bro.

  • What a cute re-telling of the Hanukkah story! It explains the menorah thing, but it doesn't go into potato latkes (sour cream or apple sauce?) or dreidles ... inquiring minds want to know!!!

  • @buddmar Shalom! Latkes or Levivot are new to Jewish tradition (around 400 years) Subganyot (kind of doughnuts filled with jam) are older but regardless of adapting food as age and time the symbolism of frying is realetad to the oil burning for 8 days as a "Divine" signal that Israel could win its freedom of worship from Greek oppression.

  • i'm only 10 and i just learned something i never knew

  • if anyone knows who matty b which yall probably do and with that being said u prolly would agree hes garbage jus search matty b diss and here the first punch in the matty b vs colby shows throwdown AND SO IT BEGINZZZZ

  • im 16 and actually learned something xD

  • @LovezHD Many intolerant people do know the fact that Jesus was a Jew but want to ignore it. at least you are alittle more tolerant. Wow people need to read there history because everyone use to be Jewish before Christains came around. according to historians and history books christains did not come around untl AFTER Jesus died.

  • thats so not what happened

ur making a mokery out of the jewish tradition

  • @TheEstherHamalka who cares? your people killed the jesus man

  • @lordironrat Just remember Jesus was a jew. In fact Jews came before christains. I am a Roman Catholic and I have many jewish friends. I have read history books, was told by my priest and many other ministers, and jews them self that Jesus was a Jew. So if you hate Jews than basiclly you hate jesus. because Jesus was a Jew. READ YOUR HISTORY!

  • @NeetNeetz1993 no shit really. i mean really? learn to read a joke when you see one ass clown.

  • @NeetNeetz1993 oh and by the way its not history its a great fiction adventure book if the bible your talking about

  • @lordironrat no i was NOT talking about the bible I was talking about HISTORY BOOKS as in SCHOOL HiStORY Books (some Public school books) and it is not in Religion books (Not the bible) in colleges and it's in the bible. Your comment is NOT a funny joke nor would people take it as a Joke.

  • @NeetNeetz1993 go fuck your mother and die of aids you humorless twat. look in the real history books there is no jesus.

  • how many chanels does elmo get on that tv? why is the same women on every channel?

  • My bad I just realized he says "holiday" :\

  • Haha! In the beginning Elmo pronounces Hanukkuah as Hanugay!

  • i hope the beautiful young jews who are watching this to end the stealth of muslims and christians everyday.

  • Like this if you were brought here by matisyahu.

  • @TomFuIp This is a completely inappropriate thing to say.

  • lol, that was a terrible explanation of the history of hanukka. I know it was supposed to be for little kids, but still, that was pretty weak.

  • dude im totally ganna look for hanukkah channel on my tv!!! :D lol

i love elmo. im not to old for it, i dont care what ppl say!!!

  • elmo stole this off the TV. expect a lawsuit from lieacom and this video pulled.

  • radical palestinians will probably try and kill the youtube founders for featuring jewish stuff

  • So put on your yamaka, It's to celebrate hanukkah

  • It would be nice to see Christmas being explained, but I don't think Elmo has subscribed to the Christian Channel.

It is interesting that a children show even goes into the Maccabean era, but you think that if they could do that they could at least give the reason for why the holiday is called Christmas (they could even explain that the RC church used the calendar day of a pagan holiday to celebrate it--they wouldn't be lying.) I don't expect them to be religious, hello it's PBS...

  • @AJOLT151 oops, didn't see the Christmas pageant clip that was probably on the same episode...they went into it a little bit at least

It's also interesting that they call Jesus a great teacher--but when He claimed deity, He either had to be telling the truth, a liar, or a madman (from Mere Christianity--CS Lewis...I know it's not exact wording, but close enough).

  • you meanies

  • Elmo is friggin' awesome!!!

  • Hey everyone let's cool it and stop arguing. Sad to see something as innocent as Elmo start an argument.

  • so back then ppl were impressed by lamps that stayed up for longer that they should lol. Would be interesting though to see a muslim or hindu tradition to be explained -_-

  • @tonkata06 =P it's more than just a lamp staying lit. It was something that was completely impossible, and these banished, impoverished people found it symbolic of their struggles and their faith. It's not the same now, obviously. Though I'd be pretty impressed if my match stayed lit for just two days.

  • @ 0:37 Ah yes, back when humans and plant-eating carnivorous dinosaurs lived together in peace.

  • Lots of people arguing, this is why I think we should have no religions. All religion does is make people fight!

  • @HayLotion Right, if there were no religion everything would be peaceful, because no one fights about money, property, power, race,or sex. Ridiculous. I suppose since you're a non religious person you've never had a fight or disagreement. Riiight.
