  • this is the craziest shit i've ever seen...you are god.

  • Awesome job Al. You said this was recorded at your studio in Oshawa. By any chance is this studio the Quest Recording studio near the 401 and Ritson area?

  • Sweet job dude! Great song and nice drumming!

  • amazing stuff....jesus christ

  • Magic... just beautiful.

  • EPIC keep it up man!

  • man your awsome!! you about nailed that. rush is one of my favorite bands to drum. i love neil's style and the way that their songs have alot of fun time changes. my 2 favorite songs to drum by rush is "the trees" and "limelight" so could you maybe drum those songs and record them? lol. i know you could nail them!

  • what a work out ! sweety ? good jop !!!

  • yo man doing drum covers came across your page ..... if u like that sort of thing double bass n that check me out .. take care

    the drummist

  • Yet another great job by Mr. Alslark.

Love the one-handed playing of the glockenspeigel!!

  • That intro alone would take me 6 months to figure out. Bravo!

  • really awesome man! nice job!

  • I'm speechless! great job is an under statement.

  • Yes, my friend! Positive criticism is fine! But that was 100% negative and insulting to my mind! You deserve far better than those comments and I am pleased that most of your comments are positive! Keep doing what you are doing! It is great!

  • @890doM

    Thanks again!

  • @AlSlark ...criticism? WTF...you are amazing,,,,fuck haters.

  • As far as I can see, your technique is fine! Your grip looks fine and loose and comind throught the wrists and not the arms. Your sense of rhythm is great and the use of the drums and cymbals are highly appropriate. The high hat seems to be used open and closed at the right points and you dampen the cymbals when they should be! In my opinion you have advanced way beyond a basic kit and anyone who says otherwise are talking through their arse!

  • @890doM

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

yeah you get a lot of people who can only criticize, that's all they can do! A lot of talent less losers who never amount to much in life,

they can only point out flaws in other people's work but never put in the time or effort it takes to get good at something. To be passionate about their art. However I do welcome constructive criticism, that's the only way to get good.

For me the positive comments out weigh the crap that's on here.

    .

  • @AlSlark agreed, 100 percent, people talk shit, but do not have any way to back up there words

  • Alstark! You can be anyone on the internet who you want to be - unless you are prepared to back it up with hard proof! If SUNWOLF 62 is a friend and he was just winding you up and you knew it, then I apologise to you both sincerely! ... Otherwise he is fuck knows what!

  • Enough of the negativity dealing with dickheads!

As I was originally going to say before I was distracted by that smart arse ...

By the configuration of your drums ... either you play in a Rush tribute band or you are a great fan of rush! In any case ... that was a very worthy drum cover of The Spirit of Radio!

Ignore the smart-arsed critical comments on here! Just keep doing as you are doing!

I could list all the things you are doing right ... many more than you aren't! Brill!

  • BTW, Sunwolf62. I have a kit even bigger than Neil Peart. My technique is far better than his and I could drum him into the ground!

    Got the point?

  • Sunwolf62! Fuck off! Give us a link to one of your drumming videos if you're such a smart arse! I don't even know this guy! I have played drums on and off for about 30 years and I wish I had a fraction of the talent of this chap! But I know good drumming when I hear it and see it!

So why don't you go and shove your head up your ass or show us how it should be done!

    What a fucking muppet!

  • Amazing.

  • I think you have more drums than you have talent to be honest. I think you should go back to a simple kit and get your skills sharpened before moving on to a BIG BOY KIT!!!

  • man ima drummer/percussionist like neil myself...though i am only 14 i listen to rush and think neil is the most talented drummer out there... i wanted to try to get the xylophone part down (cause i have one)...you know the notes?...well obivously u know the notes but could you give them to me please

  • 1st song on every tour (since its release). it's like saying, "hello, we're here to kick your ass"!

  • Ladies and gentlemen, Neil's stand-by drummer, Mr. Al Slark. Rush tribute bands, if you ever need a man for your band, just dial 1-800-Nel-Pert!

    Bravo, brother-of-the-skins!

  • Awesomeness. 8 months ago i watched this video and wanted to learn the drums. n now im rockin out on my peace drum set about to upgrade to a Gretsch Maple. only got 6 months in but im picking it up fairly quick. thnks for the inspiration! ROCK ON!!!

  • your toms are huge

  • When (and why) did you adopt that "tapping" technique on the snare? It's almost like you're scared to hit it. I personally use rimshots every hit while playing rock.

  • Undemanding contact in your happy solitude. Nice job dude!

  • perfect job man...........great...NEIL PEART FOR PRESIDENT

  • that was good, but the music was too loud. i wana here you play, i listen to them all the time.

  • u must be playing the live version

  • @TheMaster8061 Yeah he is.. I like this album the best.. Best one in my opinion..

  • man your roto's look SICK

  • Thanks, they sound sick too!

  • Always wanted to be able to play drums, was barely able to keep a jazz beat when my dad decided to sellthe drums for a new PC. :(

You are amazing though and videos like these will always inspire me.

  • i have one question and one question only. how the fuck do even get to ur seat? the drum set blocks that whole corner haha

  • Air lifted! LOL

  • @maxwell2722 My guess is he squeezes past that sharp corner of that orange table, much to the danger of his manhood

  • @maxwell2722 he lives in there or he has teleporting super powers

  • nother question. do you do any double bass work?

  • so. do you have the rest of your band doing every thing else?

  • not in a band @ the moment.

  • Um why not? Oh you must be the drummer they call if Peart gets sick and can't go on. =D

  • That is too fn... funny! LOL

  • Simply Fuckin Amazing...Watching You Play Makes Me Wanna Learn How To Play Drums..

  • Thanks. I felt the same way watching Neil play. when I was 15, thats when i decided to learn how to play drums. still learning.....

  • The beginning and middle of Spirit are arguably the most difficult because of the odd timing and you nailed it. Well done.

  • Ya you got it, there's a 5/4 rift in the intro.

    Reading the tabs helps.

  • you have a gift. nuf said. neil peart is legendary, no doubt. you should check out danny carey. hes the drummer from tool. yuo may not like the band itself, but danny's drumming is unique

  • Always loved this song and aspired to drum like it one day. Never happened, never will. Don't underplay your abilities, you are seriously talented. Wow!! Time to blow the dust off my kit!

  • Glad I could inspire you to pound the skins again, For me daily practice is fun, specially to RUSH!

  • Rock on dude... rock on....

  • just one word " WOW" , you deserve it !

keep on going because you got some serious skills!!!

  • Wooo! Well done! That has to be the best cover I've seen. Emulating Neil Peart is no small task.

  • amazing vid : ))

  • This is an absolutely amazing cover! I can tel you've been playing for a while. AS a fellow drummer (32 years) you do some damn amazing things with that kit!! Kudos and 5 STARS! You Rock!

  • Thanks, Yes I've been playing for a few years, but still have a long way to go. for me I'm always learning new things

  • A FEW YEARS?!?!?!?

dude i swear to god, lolol if i didn't know that, i'd swear that you've been playing for like 15 years!!!

with that talent my friend, kudos and beyond!!!

  • Dude I have to say, as a fellow drummer and LONG time Rush fan, your playing is the most consistent and has the best feel of any of the Neil Peart wannabes out here. You are never ahead of the beat. You are right on it, if not a touch behind, just the way Peart plays when he is at his best. The notes are distinct and clean. Unlike most of the others out here, I can tell you are listening to and feeling the MUSIC, as opposed to just trying to be a Peart parrot. Kudos brother. You ROCK!!!

  • Thanks, I'm just having fun behind the kit, had to learn these songs for the last Rush tribute band I was in, thought I'd put it out there and test the waters, glad you like it!

  • wow awesome cover! got the opening down great!

  • Thanks man!

  • DUDDEE HOW DO YOU PLAY THE XYLOPHONE THING THATS AMAZING

lmfao and how did you afford such a big set!

  • I had to work for it.

  • i read about your work

one of three canadians commisioned by the usps to do art for stamps

    thats amazing

  • That's my full time gig. drumming is a hobby that I really enjoy, wish I could make big $ doing it full time.

  • dude i love your drum set and your great.

  • Thanks man that's really nice!

Don't know about great, I make my fair share of mistkes.

  • Great job! I would also recommend getting a higher quality camera. Your snare almost sounds like a wood block. But the playing is great!

  • NICE JOB DUDE ! and nice kit by the way ! Go on my page , watch my tomsawyer drum cover , rate and comment plz , thanks dude !! 10/10

  • Nice cover. I think you can cut yourself a break and come off the bells a measure or two earlier so you can get back to your sticks. Neil does. Also. on another video you had a better overhead angle that also covered your feet. You have great footwork. Show it. I'd love to see more of your covers from that angle you used for "Analog Kid".

  • I like to mix up the angles, to show the long rolls, looks better from the side. I plan on reshooting YYZ from the top, a kind of instruction video, I'll slow down the song and play it at regular speed, coming soon.

  • i hope im as good as you when i get oder

    i love your set too

  • Wow....incredible playing!! Love your kit too!!!!

  • I don't know about incredible, but Thanks!

    I like my kit too!

  • No shit ! You play that xylophone part too ??! Hahaha ! Awesome ! So little that i know...

  • u shud do a drum tour of the set

  • great job!nice kit too.

  • Thanks!

  • playing with soul, i like it

  • Amazing intro...great playing ! U just rock on dude!
