@6020e3 it is making fun of how materialistic our culture has become. There is a part of Disney World in Florida called the Magic Kingdom and heaven was once thought to be in the sky. It is saying that we have become so materialistic that we think Disney world is literally Heaven.
what is this song all about? i know it is about Disneyland, but what is it about, the fact that they were poor as kids and didn't get to Disneyland or what ? i don't know much about Disneyland and those little details about western culture since i live in eastern Europe and the closest Disneyland i know is in France.
@KyleBMasterThespian Also, they are talking about The Magic Kingdom, NOT Disneyland or Disney World. But, again, it is the same company; namely, Disney Entertainment.
Just wondering.. where do you get the 'criticize 'white' American consumer culture' from in that song? Actually the only ethnic group they point out that is there is the 'zillion japanese tourist'.. they do mention the people of orlando are snowy white.
dude i bet the 4 people that disliked r hardcore jack ass christians and were expecting a christian song and when they noticed it was about disney land they disliked
Did you all get the joke "except for southern baptists"... it refers to the souther baptist method of baptism, by dunking in a body of water. You are not allowed in any of the ponds or water effects inside the park, its one of the quickest ways to visit Micky Jail.
Have you ever considered that maybe they're just big Walt Disney World fans?? This song is AWESOME. And yes, it's about Walt Disney World, not Disneyland :)
Eh... While creative, I feel like this meant-to-be ironic joke about the Disney Parks' greed and shallow entertainment has been done too many times. I salute this group's talent, but I can't stand by the message that Walt's parks are anything short of magical.
Actually, we had an extensive discussion of this in my AP US History Class, but Walt was racist, anti-semitic, and sexist. It's not particularly overt, but you can really see it in his cartoons. Considering the time period he lived in, however, this isn't really shocking. It just shows that Walt was considerably more human than people like to portray him.
From 1997 to 2005, the Southern Baptist Convention boycotted Disney, mainly because they had "gay days" at their parks, among other things that the SBC viewed as being "anti-Christian" and "anti-family".
@Crimsonwavesroll - I think the question really is, "Why should the Southern Baptists hate others for something which is not even biblical in nature, but misunderstood, therefore, twisted to make it biblical?" Why should one call any particular group "anti-Christian" or the Disney organization being "anti-family" because they cater to a wide variety of people?
I love this song, reminds me of when I was 5 and my mom took me from Cincinnati, OH all the way to Disney Land. Something few kids from my neighborhood ever get to experience. Thanks for the nostalgic moment!
You sure this song is called "Magic Kingdom" and not "Kingdom in the Sky"? I only ask because I don't see "Magic Kingdom" on that album cover in the video... or any other Da Vinci's Notebook album, heh.
@iamonfire1812 i believe the video originally was named 'magic kingdom' and CeruleanDragon1 was saying it might be 'kingdom in the sky' instead. perhaps you misread. not to be mean or anything.
@CeruleanDragon1 no its called Kingdom in the Sky because if u look carfully on the back of the album one of the last ones is this song and it says Kingdom in the Sky
I love DVN and everything about them... I think the person posting this video might be a little bit off in the assessment, though (I certainly don't hear any cracks at white people).
"Won't you take me to Orlando where the sun is shining bright? Where the Angels are clean-shaven, and the people snowy white". Definitely a crack about, at the very least, how utterly Wonder Bread White the Disney corporate attitude tends to be.
Having established that this song is awesome, I'd like to highlight that the banjo effects at 1.25, which are done "a capella" completely WITHOUT a banjo, display a particularly huge awesomeness rarely found on this planet. Awesome? Yes indeed.

@6020e3 It's a joke about American culture, comparing Disney Land to Catholicism, using the tune of an old hymn.
