@LaMonica83 Don't be afraid just wash them gently concentrating on the scalp and retwist immediately afterwards. They shouldn't unravel. I washed my daughter's locks the every week when I first started hers...never had a problem
where did you purchase the prong pins? I'll be needing those and still have not found them! lol I need like a box of em not those lil packs...I'll try n see if I can find em in BK when I go cuz Staten Island is limited
I said I would loc my daughters hair when I had one and someone once told me little girls shouldn't have locs... This is a great example of how a little princess would be BEAUTIFUL with locs!!! keep up the good work!
I think people that say little girls or women for that matter shouldn't have locs are still stuck with the undo negative image of the Rastifarians and their locs. Although they wear their hair loced for religous reasons people still perceive them as non conformers. So when women loc their hair (or little girls) the same people see us as rebelling and non conformers. Those people need to get a clue I say.
Yeah sad but true. I wish people didn't look at it as rebelling more like exploring our own culture rather than following the european standards that are imposed on us. Thanks for watching and commenting :)
so my lil girl says to me , daddy i want my hair like yours , so i explained a few things to her about it , even showed her your little girl's slide show and your journey , she has her heart set on it now. any advice?
@ dreaded1leo....If you have explained to her and showed her the things it takes to maintain locs....I say go for it...If it comes to a time that she wants them out, You can comb them out..even though it is tedious and time consuming.. Good Luck to you and you lil girl in whatever you decide.
I need to right? lol. I hate doing my own hair it's hard keeping my hands over my head for so long. I do retwist sometimes in between salon visits but I only do the front.
No I don't add water. I use any type of setting lotion I can find. I'm using something now called african pride setting lotion. I don't think it matters
She is soooo beautiful tell her that everyday cause we know how kids can be I want to do my daughter but her daddy said I can't she's only three it has to be her who says I want them so good luck
Thank you. At first, my husband was skeptical as well, but after I did it he loves it and she looks so beautiful with them. Maybe he'll change his mind in the future or you do like me and do it anyway...you are the one who does her hair so how could he stop you? ;)
Cool. I'll be posting another update for my daughter this week. Watch out for it. Her hair looks great it's budding and half way locked already. I so jealous of her lol
I retwisted my 8 year olds hair today, it's been a couple of days shy of two weeks since i locked her hair, but i did not wash them, how long do you think that i should wait to wash her hair, i was thinking about another two weeks then wash? what do you think?
It's your prefrence. I wash my daughter's hair whenever it looks dirty. Since the fall I've been washing it ever 3 weeks to a month. But in the summer, I washed it every 1 1/2 to two weeks. Just use your best judgement. I wouldn't wait longer than a month though.
Yeah. Its budding. She's going thru the frizzy stage now. I have it in a ponytail right now and it looks like she doesn't have locs it is sooo frizzy. I'm going to be doing her hair over this weekend and I'm going to post it. I'll be three months for her on sunday.
Nah I don't plan on it. But in the future when she's older it'll be her decision. But by that time her hair will be down to her behind and she probally won't want to take them out lol.
No they won't. They only look bigger because the boxes are square and neat. They will be a medium size, not too small. She has thin hair so if I did them any smaller they would risk thinning out. But subscribe so you can see the progress a year from now. Thanks for comment.
thanks :) I've been doing locs for years. My mother, step mother and husband have them. So I've gotten good over time but my daugher is the first person I've started. I might start doing it on the side.
This is so precious!!!!! :-)

what type of shampoo and conditioner do you use for her hair. I'm in the process of doing a similar style for my daughter.

I currently use Dr.Bronner's peppermint soap diluted and I just started using a tea tree oil conditoner from trader joe's that's pretty good.

her locs are cute now, but they are gonna get huge as the grow. I say that because you used such a big section of hair for each loc.

No they won't. They only look bigger because the boxes are square and neat. They will be a medium size, not too small. She has thin hair so if I did them any smaller they would risk thinning out. But subscribe so you can see the progress a year from now. Thanks for comment.
