  • Anyone for having "a codec error" when trying to render first pass, here's something that worked for me. I run Windows 7 64-bit. My vegas found Lame MP3 in the Audio formats but somehow couldn't read the codec. So chance Lame MP3 format to AC-3 ACM Codec with "320kbit / 44 100hz / Stereo" settings.

  • so what bit rate is for avc?

  • You lost me at selecting x-264 selecting, I do not have that in vegas pro 10.

  • I used these settings and got beautiful results on my computer, but after uploading to YT, the quality took a major hit. I know it's going to go down, but I didn't expect the extent to which it did - any help is super appreciated

  • For all people having problems with 64bit Windows - Vegas is 32bit software, so no mather what's the OS it can use only 32 bit codecs and doesn't show 64 bit versions. You need to install 32 bit codecs ;)

  • @Overdrive872 This is just not true, sorry m8. There are 64 bit versions of Sony Vegas, which work with the x264vfw 64bit codec.

  • Tx a lot for the tutorial use one note i cant use the lame codec MP3 (because a stupid error :s) so instead that i used the audio codec of sony vegas and is working fine .

  • Awesome guide, i was stuck with this rendering stuff over a month now, and i finally got it... thx a lot

  • For you who have problems with x264 not showing up in Sony Vegas:

I run Windows 7 64bit and failed with the 64bit version. So I downloaded the regular one and installed it as Windows Vista Service Pack 3. That made it show up in the rendering settings for me. As for audio. I did not get LAME to work. Instead, I followed The SupremeNTM's advice and went with AC-3 ACM Codec with 320kbit/sec 44100hz settings. Rendering my first video with this now. Will be really interesting.

  • Annoying, despite having both installed, neither Lame MP3 nor x264 show up for use in Vegas.

  • @TaintedSoulsTV Do you have the 64bit version? If its the case you need the x264vfw 64bit codec and then it works. Its important that it is the VFW 64bit version. But with lame i got the same problem. Tried every version i found but dont get it to work. Really annoying... :(

  • I don't get this. A more than a year has passed since I first tried this tutorial, I did everything that he said, but I got that error every single time, I tried it on 6 computers, 3 notebooks and several times changed windowses from various XP versions and service packs to 64 bit Windows 7 and it just flips the error every single time... I tried the tricks you said could work, but without success...

  • what recording software did you use for this video?

    Thanks

  • If you're using a cam corder, how should my properties be?

  • Awesome, thanks so much! I recall the lame format giving me grief even years back too, what a pain. Changed it and it rendered great.

  • It just simply doesn't work. I'm running Windows 7 64bit and the x264vfw code didn't show up. I installed the 64bit version of it and I get the codec error. I tried the audio fix, it doesn't work, I tried the second fix for the codec error, it doesn't work. Thanks sony, good job guyth.

  • thank you so much fot the awsome tutorial, everything worked out well, for those who get the codec error its because of the audio codec. try using other audio codec e.g. AC-3 ACM Codec 320kbits 44100hz stereo. it is also very good. the info about the codec you can find when you click on the warcarftmovies link in the discription, thats where i found it. peace

  • managed to get 1st pass encoding with Pro 9...Nth errored.

    Anyway good stuff ,

in your vid ur saying u use lame mp3 44.100 etc etc. but @ your description says 48Hz bla bla PCM uncompressed which is default audio.... by using lame mp3 as u say , i end up with a codec error before encoding starts. U show us your x264 1st and nth pass...both have PCM uncompressed audio setting @ description .

Just saying it for those that will get a Codec error like i did .

thnx for tips and keep it up :)

  • An error occurred while creating the media file faxn.avi

the selected codec does not support the current render settings

    what?

  • I'm sorry I just saw this now, as this was a major headache for me as well..

When you go to configure your x264 settings, look to the right. Are the pulldown menus blank, and the numbers at the top right huge? They were for me, the settings got completely borked. It's supposed to read 'auto' and show 1's on Sar Width/Height. Reload default settings at the bottom, reconfigure, then save. That should do it.

  • setting the codec to default first solved the problem for me thx

  • What is you template? i cant get in it 30.000 only 29.970?

  • @schwaner96 ... He said you have to type it in

  • when i render my video (it's 10 min long) it either says there is an error and it doesn't know what caused it, or it will just close. this only happens when i render as .wmv and that's what i need it as. any ideas?

  • so can i post a 17 min long video as 1 part?

  • the x264 codec doesnt show up in my sony vegas (9.0).

I installed the x264vfw as you showed. :(

  • oh never mind. if anyone ever has this problem, check if you really have an updated version, and not a pirated one!

  • do you have 32bit version? it didn't work for me either in 64bit
