It is the recording quality. Just heard this on my car radio, and it was AMAZING! Hadn't heard a Razumovsky in way too long. And the Tokyo is just extraordinary. This transmission only gives you a hint of how good they are. Like your car radio is going out of a broadcast area.

è pura verità: dopo averli ascoltati, per la prima volta, a salerno, per 2 giorni ho camminato a 20 cm dal suolo; per circa una settimana una diagnosi di un cancro non avrebbe minimamente scalfito il mio stato di esaltazione.
Well, technique is there, but after Budapest string quartet's interpretation of this piece, this one just doesn't do it. It's a bit too fast, just by a few milliseconds but enough to miss the most important notes.
The play the Razumovsky quartets brilliantly, but I've never heard them playing the late quartets. I'd love to hear that, and I wonder how it'd sound.
I own the complete Beethoven Late Quartets by them. Whatever you do, acquire it. They make a magnificent sound. Their playing is equal to the summit of western civilization that describes the quartets. You can't listen to Bartok or Shostakovich without hearing Beethoven's LQs, which he said were written for a future civilization(I still don't think it's arrived).
@cobaltjones Yes, I found that CD set in the local library, Wow they make a terrific noise don't they!! Apparently, Schubert upon hearing this said something like "after this, what is there left to write?" Something tells me he was right.
If I am not greatly mistaken, the members of this quartet play with Stradivari instruments (The famous 4 instruments N.Paganini had in his own private collection)
chyea! i just came back from a concert like an hour ago...they were do bomb.
btw they perform on the "paganini quartet", stradivarius instruments which paganini aquired and played them during the 19th cent. they r on loan fronm the nippon music foundation. =D just a few facts
They do play on the Paganini Strads, although I know Mr. Beaver's instrument needed some serious repairs done, and it was being worked on overseas for a while. And "cyvue", Mr. Isomura's viola is not 17". It is very beautiful, though. These guys are great - genuinely good human beings, and super talented to boot!
music forever.
