@HCelticPrincessness As bad as Grassley is he is nothing compaired to Steve King. I have had people from Iowa tell me that they hate dirty politics there, so how do they explain this asshole.
It looks like redistricting is the only way to get rid of this asshole.
I wish he would unplug my conservative grandma, and she is not even in the hospital! She is a right wing conservative religious nut case with Medicare! :D
Actually Private Insurance companies have been pulling plugs on grandmas across America. What, did you really think that keeping grandma in a hospital bed on a respirator would come free? or cheap?
I am currently having a discussion about 15 posts down with a conservative who is arguing that the gangs want drugs to be legalized. Here is a taste of his logic:
"Many individuals, including gang members, wish that drugs were legal. The reason is that if drugs are legalized, then said gang members can legally sell drugs with no fear of legal repercussions and can legally continue to do what they already do. Do you understand that logic?"
@jimbrown257 Why on earth would gangs want a commodity exclusive to them to be legalized? If Joe normal could feed his meth addiction by dropping into the nearest CVS pharmacy, how would gangs benefit from this?? Conservative logic is strange, particularly considering that they worship capitalism. I thought Conservatives understood all too well what a monopoly is.. It's what they create every time they "reduce the size of government", (their term for "deregulation".)
This should have been a debate over private run health insurance vs. public or government run health insurance. Republicans cared more about ruining Obama's presidency and hurting Democrats than they did about their own constituents. They don't give a damn about their country. It's all about the money with them.
This episode of The Young Turks is just over-the-top bad.
The idiocy of the left-wing is unfortunately beyond my realm of articulation in relation to the English language. They simply seem too far gone to be reached. Evidence being how animated this tool of tools gets, tying it all in at the end with a random corporate attack.
BTW, WHICH PARTY gave insurance companies their lovely mandate of making every American purchase coverage? My memory escapes me...
@mtb416 He's an idiot because he is animated? -An owned home still has annual property tax. Cars require insurance, -jailable- . Driving's a "privelledge"? ..Seriously whens the last time you went without a vehicle- for how long? Uninsured Joe bum cant by law be denied life saving treatment if he gets hurt, -ambulance, er, overnight, meds, surgery, post care, etc.. unpaid bills, endless collection notices. How do we pay for the 12,000 helicopter rides? Price gouging the consumer, & taxes.
Yeah, the Conservatives are all liars, huh? Let's legalize drugs in America and allow all the thugs to rape your daughters and sisters and nieces and mothers and women. Legalize weed, give the gangsters what they want and throw any and everyone in jail who has not paid tribute to the proposed "Health Care" plan. Fuck each and every traitor to America.
1) You think gangsters want drugs legalized? You realize that would put them out of business; they are no longer selling it, licensed vendor would and it would be taxed.
2) Even Fox News admits there is no chance you could go to jail for not paying for health care. Listen to what Bill O'Reilly said two weeks ago in video by C0ct0pusPrime "Bill O'Reilly tries to explain his lies" just watch the first minute of Bill talking.
I don't suppose you have any reliable sources that there are jail time penalties? I realize that Fox News used to claim there were but after other Republicans called them out on it, they admitted that it was not true. The jail time penalties are no more real than the Death Panels. You don't believe in the Death Panels do you?
@jimbrown257 As a government contractor, I carry and conceal firearms and other deadly weapons. In terms of reliable sources, I can clearly tell you that what I gleaned was from television and not FOXNews. In military intelligence training, a person learns how to asses information that comes from word of mouth. I trust my sources of information, as they tend to be quite reliable. I am familiar with the group that reviews assassination orders, but am unfamiliar with "Death Panels" per se.
So you really think a person can go to jail for not having health insurance with the current legislation. What are these sources of your's? If it were true it would be in the legislation. Funny thing is that it doesn't say that.
Go look this stuff up and stop spreading lies like that. Even Fox News and the Republicans admit that the people who were saying that were lying or had been mislead. I would suggest you get better sources.
@jimbrown257 Have you read anything about "Section 7203 - misdemeanor wilful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year." You can also search "go to jail for not having health insurance."
@YFLOInternational Section 7203 is from the IRS code for willful nonpayment. However, regarding taxes related to health care legislation:
..."In the Senate, the Finance Committees health care bill was amended to nullify the possibility of jail time for not paying the penalty tax. It stipulates that in the case of nonpayment, "such taxpayer shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty with respect to such failure." (factcheck org)
@jimbrown257 Yeah. Exactly. So now, the larger question becomes: Why would the Obama Administration have EVER supported such a bill in the first place that had CLEARLY indicated that someone could be incarcerated for not cooperating with the proposed health care plan? That is like saying if you do not accept the Mark of the Beast, you will be imprisoned and tortured. Fuck Barack Obama and his whole administration.
" Why would the Obama Administration have EVER supported such a bill in the first place that had CLEARLY indicated that someone could be incarcerated for not cooperating with the proposed health care plan?"
...The legislation NEVER said you would go to jail. Quit spreading lies and fear. The worst part of this is that the first comment you made said that conservatives were unfairly accused of being liars and you are demonstrably lying right now.
Do you want to here it from Republican Sentor Tom Coburn? Search for the Young Turks clip "O'Reilly Completely Busted on His Lies" from April 14. At 1:00 in that clip, Coburn admonishes O'Reilly for stoking people's fear (like you are doing) for telling them they could go to jail when it is simply untrue. O'Reilly lies and says he never did that but then the YTs play several clips of Fox telling people it is true.
I don't mean to sound rude here but it really gets me upset to see fear mongering. So after you realize that you CAN'T go to jail, you should seriously reconsider how honed your abilities to "asses information that comes from word of mouth" and if those sources of your's are really that trustworthy.
Also, the idea that gangs want drugs legalized is equally as batshit crazy.
@jimbrown257 Jim, not to be rude, but do you live in the Twilight Zone? Probably not. So, let us be very clear about one thing of which you seem to be very confused. Many individuals, including gang members, wish that drugs were legal. The reason is that if drugs are legalized, then said gang members can legally sell drugs with no fear of legal repercussions and can legally continue to do what they already do. Do you understand that logic? Now, please explain your previous remark.
@YFLOInternational "then said gang members can legally sell drugs with no fear of legal repercussions and can legally continue to do what they already do"
...That makes no sense, once drugs are legalized, the gangs lose the corner on the market. Remember what happened to the mob after prohibition was repealed? Do you see a lot of gangs continuing to sell liquor these days? Do you know that in places where drugs are legal, the gangs account for the sale of exactly ZERO drugs?
@jimbrown257 Fine. I was waiting for you to say that. At least you framed it in the proper context and perspective for logical discussion, rather than simply deny my line of logic as you did previously. To answer your question, I do not disagree with you in that sense. But, in the previous case, your argument was invalid. Despite what will likely occur after drugs are hypothetically legalized, there are nevertheless gangsters who desire for drug dealings to be legal, a fact u first denied.
"there are nevertheless gangsters who desire for drug dealings to be legal, a fact u first denied."
...What gansters? The Mexican drug cartels that bring in pot are losing business in CA to the licensed local growers and vendors they have there now.
Could you give me an example of a crime organization who would want drugs legalized and, more importantly, if it were legalized, how and why would violence continue to happen on their behalf?
@jimbrown257 Sure Jim. There are a lot of gangsters from California who migrated to Washington State. They have expressed that they wish that marijuana were legal and that other such drugs were legalized. You can conduct your own independent poll. What I have told you is true and I find it ridiculous that you still do not seem to be able to grasp this simple notion. Your counter-argument is that legalizing drugs will put dealers out of business. Wrong. It will make some dealers legal dealers.
@YFLOInternational When you say "gangsters" are you refering to the hippies who grow pot in Humbolt county that never hurt anyone!?! Many of those people are now growing for the legal vendors in CA. Those guys pay taxes so instead of wasting money busting these guys, the government is now profiting from them.
The "gangsters" I am talking are the dangerous Mexican cartels that would be put out of business.
@YFLOInternational Cont: Are you just worried about people doing drugs? Do you think there is anyone who wants to do drugs but doesn't because it is illegal?! When I say the crime would go down from legalizing this stuff, I am not just talking about the stoners smoking pot wouldn't be breaking the law (although the amount of money wasted putting these people in jail is ridiculous). I am talking about the dangerous and violent crime that only happens because it is illegal.
@jimbrown257 You do not seem to understand the overall drug culture very well. You sound like a pseudo-intellectual, sheltered and pampered, outside observer. Your observations and comments are rather trite. I come from the drug capital of the United States of America, the Pacific Northwest/High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. I have worked in law enforcement and you merely seem to be reiterating some shit from a stupid ass documentary you watched consisting of disgruntled cops on camera.
@YFLOInternational So who are these gangster in the Pacific NW that are causing so many problems? And if drugs were to be legalized, why would the violent crime that occurs because of the drug trade not stop? People who want to do drugs get drugs anyway so why not make money off taxing it? How would this be different than what happened after prohibition was ended when the mob lost most of their business?
You do realize this "war on drugs" has been nothing but an abject failure, right?
Do you honestly think that keeping drugs illegal has some benefit?
Why does that not apply to alcohol? The violent crime from drug use is NOTHING compared to alcohol use. The violent crime from drugs comes from the illegal sales by violent cartels. Nobody smokes weed and beats up their wife; only drunk guys do that.
@jimbrown257 The War on Drugs has locked up a lot of people who needed to be locked up. The War on Drugs has kept a lot of drugs and drug funds out of the wrong hands. For you to say that the War on Drugs has been "nothing but an abject waste of time" demonstrates even more of your senseless analyses.
When you say the war on drugs has locked up people who needed to be locked up, which people are you talking about? Are you talking about the people who do drugs, the people who manufacture drugs, the people who transport drugs or the people who sell drugs?
You are aware that the two most common things that people are addicted to, alcohol and oxycontin, are both legal (OC is controlled). Should these two things be made illegal? If not, what makes these two drugs any different from the rest?
Ideally, you should provide evicence to back up your claims but, as I see that probably isn't a speciality of your's, I will provide evidence for why you are wrong if you answer yes to one or both of those two questions I have asked. I'll even use Fox News as a source to prove you wrong.
@jimbrown257 Well, you suppose to know what I do and do not specialize in. I suppose you anticipate a pretentious answer. Apparently, you already have all the answers you need in which to know what you believe you need to know.
"Well, you suppose to know what I do and do not specialize in."
...Don't try to change the subject; I made no such claim. You made an incorrect assertion that a person could get jail time for not paying for health care. That is not true and claiming it is is nothing but fear-mongering. If you believe it, you are have been a victim of the fear-mongerers and I want you to learn the truth.
I made no assumptions about your specialities outside of the claim you made.
@YFLOInternational are you -seriously- implying rape cases increase the more people smoke weed?? Gangsters want people who don't "pay tribute" to the health care plan jailed?? People who like to smoke weed and want affordable health care are traitors??
What planet do you live on? Were you homeschooled by mormons or menonites?
I think he thinks that the hippies smoking weed are causing all this violent crime related to drugs. I think he is worried about the actual use of drugs.
The "gangsters" he is refering to is the stoners growing weed in northern CA!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Obama is ruining our country. Open your eyes people. He is destroying our Republic and has already committed crimes against the constitution. I don't see why this man has not been IMPEACHED. This is not about race. It is about a man who made false promises and continues to commit to take us down a dark path.
Oh yeah those crazy republicans with their crazy ideas like...
1. Increase competition among private ins
2. Create incentives for ppl to be doctors, create more med schools
3. Stop frivolous lawsuits
4. Tax health benefits, but give offsetting tax credit, if you find a policy for less than the cut you keep the difference, this makes ppl shop around like they do now for car insurance
5. Have medicare/medicaid pay 100% of costs to docs so that those costs aren't passed to private insurers
1.7 million teabaggers, it was more like 60 thousand old fart die hard repubtard raceists, Winter is comming and you wont see these old bastards untill spring when they come out of hibernating from under their rocks, Ha ha death panels, you assholes better ask why your local mortican makes pre arrangments for you, now that is what i call a death panel, fuckin stupid repubtards.
People don't want this plan. They don't want a socialist America. We know the MAJORITY do not want this. Look at the 1.7 million who went to the 912 rally that should give you a hint that America REJECTS this socialist/borderline communist president! NOT MY PRESIDENT!
hahahahaha 1.7 MILLION PEOPLE at the 9/12 rally? Are you kidding me? You really do listen to everything Glenn Beck says don't you? His word is clearly gospel to you.
The fire department estimated 75,000 people...even that clown on Hannity's show said it was only 2 hundred thousand....people like you believe the LIE that its 1.7 million people and you are brainwashed into thinking that you are the majority...which you aren't.
Hundreds of millions of people have been murdered under socialist regimes including the Nazis (national socialists), Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Pol Pot, etc. Additionally hundreds of millions more have been denied freedom by socialists.
Socialism is the opposite of the limited government and expanded personal liberties that the founding fathers believed in.
u are a fucking idiot if you think a public option is somehow similar to FUCKING POL POT! Pol Pot murdered the educated in his country...are you suggesting that Obama would do that in this country? Does Obama murder his dissenters? Millions? As Stalin did?
You insult this country by relating your own government to this country's past enemies....and you neo-cons have the nerve to call liberals "unamerican"
Um, the question was what is so scary about socialism, I maintain that Pol Pot is a great example of why socialism is so scary, as are Hitler, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, etc. I did not compare the public option to Pol Pot in any way, also I don't believe I called liberals unAmerican...but you're really defensive about that lol... methinks the lady doth protest too much...
yea but the reason those dictator were so evils is because of the millions they killed...u really think the President will do the same? You really think Obama will throw us into full socialism? The Presidency doesn't even have the power to do that...the COngress wouldnt allow it...our very democracy doesn't allow it...we've had socialist policies for a long time...some instituted by the conservative hero, Ronald Reagan...Disgusts me when folks relate the President to murderous dictators
Again the question was what is so scary about socialism. The long list of mass murderers like Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung, etc I think are great reasons why socialism is scary.
To say Obama is a socialist is not to say he is Hitler. It is true that the Nazis were leftists it's not true that all leftists are Nazis. It is important to understand basic history that the Nazis in no way supported limited government or expanded individual rights and were firmly on the side of the left.
Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin and Mao, really didn't have much to do with socialism. They were authoritarians. They were mostly socialist in name, but some were democratic in name too. Faux News uses 'socialism' for fear mongering. It has no basis in reality. Note, I didn't promote socialism, I'm just saying that most people have no idea what it really is
But of course socialism is authoritarian. For socialism to work you must have an entity that is powerful enough to take from one group to give to another. This creates a dangerous situation where the temptation for the government to become tyrannical is too strong and that has ended tragically over and over as in the cases of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, Mao's China, Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge, etc.
Not necessarily. Those guys weren't accountable to the people. There were lacking democracy. As I said, Mao, Pol-Pot,etc. weren't socialists in any meaningful sense of the term. In fact, Pol Pot was Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea. So why aren't we calling him democratic and saying democracy failed? Because that wouldn't fit our agenda. Using Socialist as an insult & a scare tactic is simply dishonest and conveys no meaningful information.
All modern day socialists call themselves democratic, North Korea is technically "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" but I don't think there is any democracy going on in North Korea. As for as branding goes it's a good thing to have in your name :) Pol Pot was also the leader of the Khmer Rouge, which was a communist organization.
Socialism robs people of individual freedom, and has resulted in some of the worst mass murders in the history of humanity (Mao, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc).
Also this is just an interesting observation. It seems like whenever I mention Stalin, Mao, and Pot Pot, all the socialists say oh no those were communists and all the communists say oh no those were socialists. It's amazing the historical revisionism and denial that liberals live in when defending their past mistakes.
Actually, the University of Illinois did an aerial spatial photograph study of the 9/12 crowd and they determined it was 1.7 million. Additionally there were lots of other local rallies all over the country.
the word socialism scares people because it's so often tied in with communism, which 'can' be the case but not always. many of the industrialized nations, such as france for one example, have a succesful socialist party in their gov't. France has one of the best health care systems in the world and it's socialist.
He uses the same 'talk-show methods' as Rush Limbaugh - which are rather boring too . . . using rehetorical statements and over exageration too much!
He thinks he is funny but he is not. I would rather listen to NPR than to listen to this idiot babble on-and-on; moreover, laugh at his own stale jokes.

Check out MOCK THE WEEK SERIES 7 EPISODE 8 : Part 1 about 6.50 in if you want to know what UK thinks of American Health Care reform DEBATE ! ."heres a ball, go and bounce it, u moran !" :LOL
Have you read the bill, TYT? there is indeed a committee that decides things based on finances. there are ages they decide when you are worth care and when you are not worth care. This public option would be no better, and probably worse than private health insurance and getting free care from the health department- why? because everything else the govvie runs has horrid waits and outdated supplies as well. The Military too, their armor is reused and bloody- and no bulletproof inserts.
jeff- "sorry if I don't tell you what you want to hear.
Same here. What I want from you is rational debate, based on the current realities in the healthcare system and all i get is libertarian talking points.
Total Distrust of government? Stop using the Interstate highways & stop drinking water. Most major water distribution systems were govt.t funded..same for highways. Should we cease to trust the Army/ Navy? Should we cease to trust Medicare? The wholesale mistrust of government that is being propagated by talk radio & Fox news is undermining the fabric of our society. If we, as a people, cease to trust our own government to do anything. We are doomed.
I don't trust Medicare. I assume my money is being stolen and that I will get no care when old age overtakes me. Private companies could provide water if the government did not forbid them from doing so. Its thanks to the interstate highway act (government+auto makers+tire makers+oil companies) that all the rail lines (public and private) were torn up in my city.
I ask you this - what gives you so much faith in government?
A. The Insurance companies ARE NOT heavily regulated relative to insurance companies in other countries.. Those that claim they are..are lying to you.
Regulations that sometimes allow regional monopolies would be lifted in the new plan.
In the new plan they would have to compete to a greater extent than they ever have. How can that be wrong?
B. A majority of doctors and a majority of patients prefer Medicare (a government plan) to private insurance.
Is Turkey not an enemy of America? Sneaking into Iraq and killing Americans for sport? What is with the American Flag on this young Turks thing? A Fox News type of cover for their terrorist backers?
We don't need billionaire to take care of our health. We need moral peers and educated fellows doing it. Why should we allow the industry lobbyists tirelessly manipulating forever? Insurance industry is our industry, not just the profit takers. Nation-wide we can managed insurance fund non-profit as a protest. Our health is not a market. We can't live by seeing anyone leave behind as manipulated. Reform must be pushed on government level. Don't make us strip your power as a last resort.
Fucking idiot, haha, you tell me to have a bad feeling when I STAND IN FRONT OF GOD? DUDE, YOUR COUNTRY IS BEING INVESTIGATED BECAUSE OF WHAT IT HAS DONE TO ME YOU MORON....when I say the responsibles will regret standing in front of God I mean it and only a person who has cut the connection to God is able to say such thing to a victim of your healthcare system....
A bunch of republican lies. Canada has gov health care and guess what? Grandma lives longer there than she does here in the states because she can acttually afford to get the care and the medicine she needs instead of having to go without food to afford her medicine.
I speak the truth friend. As global credit dries up, government controlled health care will have to be rationed. As always, the first to be sacrificed with be the elderly and the very young. Before long (as in the UK) it may be criminal to try and purchase your own care beyond the reach of the ever expanding state apparatus. Lets just pray that Mexico remains a fairly free nation, so we can at least head south of the border for timely and effective care when we really need it.
So how many Americans flock to get healthcare in Canada? I think you'd be hard pressed to find any. However, thousands of Canadians come to America for healthcare when they could get it for free in their own socialist utopia... why is that?
jeff-Cancer survival rates are one of the few stats that America can be proud of. And clearly we can be proud of our cancer clinics.
But here is the rub. My wife works at a large cancer clinic...she says many patients ( even those with insurance) lose everything because of high copays and policy exclusions.
Overall we are about 37th in the world in health care...we are in the top five in a few categories. But we are bottom of the list for the financial burden we place on our citizens.
We do have a flawed system, one that is over-regulated on both the state and national levels. A truly free marketplace for medical goods and services is the only answer. Non regulated medical services such as lasik surgery and cosmetic surgery have gone down in price over the last 20 years while quality and safety have improved.
jeff- A major feature of the bill that the republicans are trying so hard to kill..is a thing called an "Insurance Exchange". that basically forces insurance companies to compete on price and benefits at a national level.
We sure wouldn't want actual competition would we?
We complain about government intervention in the "free market"...but now that government wants to promote competition...we don't really like free markets that much after all. How dare the government force us to compete!
No, that is just government regulating the industry still further. The health insurance companies can compete just find if the government would just get out of the way.
The companies are both heavily regulated and protected from competition. People are not allowed to buy insurance from another state, and the services provided are carefully regulated by both state and federal government. If the market was opened up to real competition, without the manipulative hand of government restricting out choices, prices would fall and quality would rise, just like in every other free market industry.
That is exactly false. The health insurance industry is heavily regulated. The so-called Insurance Exchange is simply a means to add still more regulations that an already over regulated industry. They try and tell us we should compare apples to apples, but not all of us like apples. Some of us prefer oranges.
You don't seem to see it. But, this new legislation is trying to undo some of the stuff you are railing against.
But, you are so sure that everything the government does is wrong...that you will not give them a chance to undo their own mistakes or to intervene on your behalf with monopolies that are screwing you and your neighbors.
I find your ideology based line of reasoning to be intellectually dishonest, emotion based, and not well thought out.
jeff...please go back and look at my posts again...there are very few personal attacks. If you tried to engage in a debate instead of posting talking points...I would probably not zing you at all
These are not talking points. This is a basic pro-liberty critique of the government's claim that it can better manage our lives and choices than we can.
But you are not managing your health care costs...some multi millionaires, that live in mansions, and fly in private jets, are managing your health care costs. Men who can not be voted out of office. Men who have perpetual control over a crucially important aspect of your existence.
Your ability to "manage" under the current system is an illusion.
I am not a big fan of the current system - in a more deregulated market I would have less insurance and pay for more goods and services in cash, but those options are not available to me due to current law in my state.
I have no problem with CEOs making a lot of money, just as I don't care how much money NBA players make. They make as much as somebody thinks they're worth.
In a free market, I could easily fire the evil rich man. If I try to fire the government, I end up in prison.
jeff- I'm sorry...but you are reverting to ideological talking points.
An Insurance Exchange restores competition where there is none. We can agree to disagree on why there is no competition...old regs or insurance company collusion.
My point: is: The proposed Insurance Exchange promotes competition for both benefits and price. It undoes the very things you complain about.
Please tell me why that would be worse than what we have now.
That is the spin, yes. But the reality will be quite different. Do we need a government computer exchange to make sure all computers are the same and cost the same? Of course not. Under the current house bill, I (a childless man) will have to pay for prenatal care. This is the sort of crazy thing that happens when government demands we all behave the same way, according to their wishes.
it is exactly true, and no, it is not a talking point. The government makes all kinds of things for me - bombs, roads, Chevys. Imagine I don't want these things - can I stop paying for them? Yes, I can, but I will end up in prison.
Jeff- You're talking about taxation in general...thats not the topic of the thread.
Unless you make over $250K as an individual or $350K as a family (adjusted gross) the tax element of this bill does not effect you.
My point is that the insurance companies steel your money as surely as the goct. does. True..you do have the right to go uninsured...but if you or your family gets sick and gets free care...I will pay your bills through higher premiums.
Your first contention is a little dubious. This program (like every government program) will go way over budget. After 20 years, figure the thing will cost 5 times more than they currently project. We'll all end up paying somehow. And of course its easy to forget that our country is massively in debt.
Currently I have a limited right to buy insurance. I can select from a variety of companies. In a freer market I would have more choices.
It's clear you totally mistrust govt. & feel it is some how your enemy. I imagine you get that from talk radio or Fox..if I'm wrong..I'm sorry. But frankly, your severe cynicism, if it becomes the norm in America, will bring down the country. No nation can survive if no one trusts their own government & everyone trusts corporations that have already proven to be untrustworthy. There..thats my talking point :)
I have not heard any such talking point. To your broader point - this country was founded on a fundamental mistrust of government. We don't have to trust companies, because the interactions we have with companies are voluntary. If we don't like them, we (each of us as an individual) can shop someplace else.
jeff-"interactions we have with companies are voluntary"
Not in the case of health insurance. You either pay their rates (double what anyone pays)..except their exclusions and copays (many times what others pay)..except their rationing (worse than anywhere in the free world) or you go without, and risk destroying your finances or place the burden for your care on others.
Our system offers anything but freedom..If you "choose it"
you are choosing an illusion of freedom...an illusion of liberty.
jeff"-if the government simply allowed us to buy whatever kind of insurance we wanted, from whatever source, it would be a whole lot better and cheaper."
no it is not. The government seeks to normalize insurance for all people. They want us to be able to compare apples to apples when choosing a health care package. They plan to do this by making all other fruits illegal.
If they really wanted to increase competition, they would enforce the interstate commerce clause and allow the people do buy insurance from any state or foreign country.
jeff -"this country was founded on a fundamental mistrust of government."
Bullshit...I'm not going to let you get away with that one.
Our form of "government" (a republic where the majority rules) is something that millions have fought and died for.
Your talking point is utter BS.
You have no clue what being an American is...You have no clue what America is. You have been infected by a disease, spread over talk radio and Fox, by millionaires that want to control you.
So, to you being American involves the government making half of your financial choices? Call me crazy (you have already) but I suspect the founding fathers would be against the interstate highway act, the income tax, Medicare, and of course, this proposed government health care plan. Remember, they rioted over a small tea tax.
Democracy is the second worse form of government ever devised by men.
jeff- "Remember, they rioted over a small tea tax.
Really?
I suggest you do some more research on that subject. The Boston Tea Party was a protest by Americans when a monopoly ( The British East India Company) had their taxes LOWERED by the King. American based TEA merchants could not compete against the monopoly.
They were NOT protesting a tax!!!!!
They were protesting an unfair advantage of a monopoly.
Would they have favored mandating health insurance? Would they feel there was a need for a government agency to oversee and regulate citizens decisions regarding health insurance? Of course not. That's why nothing of the sort is mentioned anywhere in the Constitution.
Americans.....this is your future and your health man, not some table you bought.....its your body and all you have here, how can you still remain silent after many people are dying cuz of this healthcare and insurance system? Everyone knows the truth but you stay silent, cuz those f want to keep their investments safe???? you cant be serious....
And now the Republicans want to pull the plug and of course, Obama is CAVING!
PRIMARY OBAMA 2012.

Do you understand that logic?"
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 I just clarified my logic for you. Read my other post.
YFLOInternational 1 year ago

My memory escapes me...
mtb416 1 year ago
@mtb416 He's an idiot because he is animated? -An owned home still has annual property tax. Cars require insurance, -jailable- . Driving's a "privelledge"? ..Seriously whens the last time you went without a vehicle- for how long? Uninsured Joe bum cant by law be denied life saving treatment if he gets hurt, -ambulance, er, overnight, meds, surgery, post care, etc.. unpaid bills, endless collection notices. How do we pay for the 12,000 helicopter rides? Price gouging the consumer, & taxes.
Freshbrood 1 year ago
Yeah, the Conservatives are all liars, huh? Let's legalize drugs in America and allow all the thugs to rape your daughters and sisters and nieces and mothers and women. Legalize weed, give the gangsters what they want and throw any and everyone in jail who has not paid tribute to the proposed "Health Care" plan. Fuck each and every traitor to America.
YFLOInternational 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational
Do you really believe:
1) The gangsters want weed to be legalized? (That is like saying Al Capone wanted alcohol to be legalized)
2) Anyone could go to jail for not paying for helath care?
It looks like the fear-mongers have done a number on you.
I would hope you know the answers to these questions as you are claiming people who disagree with you are traitors. If not, you are a hypocrite.
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 1. I was referring to all drugs. 2. Perhaps you are not too familiar with the proposed legislation.
YFLOInternational 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational
1) You think gangsters want drugs legalized? You realize that would put them out of business; they are no longer selling it, licensed vendor would and it would be taxed.
2) Even Fox News admits there is no chance you could go to jail for not paying for health care. Listen to what Bill O'Reilly said two weeks ago in video by C0ct0pusPrime "Bill O'Reilly tries to explain his lies" just watch the first minute of Bill talking.
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational
Cont:
I don't suppose you have any reliable sources that there are jail time penalties? I realize that Fox News used to claim there were but after other Republicans called them out on it, they admitted that it was not true. The jail time penalties are no more real than the Death Panels. You don't believe in the Death Panels do you?
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 As a government contractor, I carry and conceal firearms and other deadly weapons. In terms of reliable sources, I can clearly tell you that what I gleaned was from television and not FOXNews. In military intelligence training, a person learns how to asses information that comes from word of mouth. I trust my sources of information, as they tend to be quite reliable. I am familiar with the group that reviews assassination orders, but am unfamiliar with "Death Panels" per se.
YFLOInternational 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational
I would suggest you get better sources.
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 Have you read anything about "Section 7203 - misdemeanor wilful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year." You can also search "go to jail for not having health insurance."
YFLOInternational 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational Section 7203 is from the IRS code for willful nonpayment. However, regarding taxes related to health care legislation:
..."In the Senate, the Finance Committees health care bill was amended to nullify the possibility of jail time for not paying the penalty tax. It stipulates that in the case of nonpayment, "such taxpayer shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty with respect to such failure." (factcheck org)
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 Yeah. Exactly. So now, the larger question becomes: Why would the Obama Administration have EVER supported such a bill in the first place that had CLEARLY indicated that someone could be incarcerated for not cooperating with the proposed health care plan? That is like saying if you do not accept the Mark of the Beast, you will be imprisoned and tortured. Fuck Barack Obama and his whole administration.
YFLOInternational 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational
" Why would the Obama Administration have EVER supported such a bill in the first place that had CLEARLY indicated that someone could be incarcerated for not cooperating with the proposed health care plan?"

Do you want to here it from Republican Sentor Tom Coburn? Search for the Young Turks clip "O'Reilly Completely Busted on His Lies" from April 14. O'Reilly lies and says he never did that but then the YTs play several clips of Fox telling people it is true.
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational Cont:
I don't mean to sound rude here but it really gets me upset to see fear mongering. So after you realize that you CAN'T go to jail, you should seriously reconsider how honed your abilities to "asses information that comes from word of mouth" and if those sources of your's are really that trustworthy.
Also, the idea that gangs want drugs legalized is equally as batshit crazy.
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 Jim, not to be rude, but do you live in the Twilight Zone? Probably not. So, let us be very clear about one thing of which you seem to be very confused. Many individuals, including gang members, wish that drugs were legal. The reason is that if drugs are legalized, then said gang members can legally sell drugs with no fear of legal repercussions and can legally continue to do what they already do. Do you understand that logic? Now, please explain your previous remark.
YFLOInternational 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational "then said gang members can legally sell drugs with no fear of legal repercussions and can legally continue to do what they already do"
...That makes no sense, once drugs are legalized, the gangs lose the corner on the market. Remember what happened to the mob after prohibition was repealed? Do you see a lot of gangs continuing to sell liquor these days? Do you know that in places where drugs are legal, the gangs account for the sale of exactly ZERO drugs?
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 Fine. I was waiting for you to say that. At least you framed it in the proper context and perspective for logical discussion, rather than simply deny my line of logic as you did previously. To answer your question, I do not disagree with you in that sense. But, in the previous case, your argument was invalid. Despite what will likely occur after drugs are hypothetically legalized, there are nevertheless gangsters who desire for drug dealings to be legal, a fact u first denied.
YFLOInternational 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational
"there are nevertheless gangsters who desire for drug dealings to be legal, a fact u first denied."
...What gansters? The Mexican drug cartels that bring in pot are losing business in CA to the licensed local growers and vendors they have there now.
Could you give me an example of a crime organization who would want drugs legalized and, more importantly, if it were legalized, how and why would violence continue to happen on their behalf?
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 Sure Jim. There are a lot of gangsters from California who migrated to Washington State. They have expressed that they wish that marijuana were legal and that other such drugs were legalized. You can conduct your own independent poll. What I have told you is true and I find it ridiculous that you still do not seem to be able to grasp this simple notion. Your counter-argument is that legalizing drugs will put dealers out of business. Wrong. It will make some dealers legal dealers.
YFLOInternational 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational When you say "gangsters" are you refering to the hippies who grow pot in Humbolt county that never hurt anyone!?! Many of those people are now growing for the legal vendors in CA.

I am talking about the dangerous and violent crime that only happens because it is illegal.
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 You do not seem to understand the overall drug culture very well. You sound like a pseudo-intellectual, sheltered and pampered, outside observer. Your observations and comments are rather trite. I come from the drug capital of the United States of America, the Pacific Northwest/High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. I have worked in law enforcement and you merely seem to be reiterating some shit from a stupid ass documentary you watched consisting of disgruntled cops on camera.
YFLOInternational 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational So who are these gangster in the Pacific NW that are causing so many problems? And if drugs were to be legalized, why would the violent crime that occurs because of the drug trade not stop? People who want to do drugs get drugs anyway so why not make money off taxing it? How would this be different than what happened after prohibition was ended when the mob lost most of their business?
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@YFLOInternational Cont:
Nobody smokes weed and beats up their wife; only drunk guys do that.
jimbrown257 1 year ago
@jimbrown257 The War on Drugs has locked up a lot of people who needed to be locked up. The War on Drugs has kept a lot of drugs and drug funds out of the wrong hands.
5. Have medicare/medicaid pay 100% of costs to docs so that those costs aren't passed to private insurers
retsep81 2 years ago
1. Vehemently championing exceptions to anti-trusts encourages competition?
2. The incentive to be a doctor isnt supposed to be money.
3. Stopping frivolous lawsuits is reasonable, preventing all lawsuits isnt. (what corporations- mostly run by Reps, aim to do)
4. Tax benefits? How many people do you think can even buy insurance or get benefits at all?
5. Medicaid is public $. Paying 100% deducts more public money, which the Govt. recoups in different ways, INCREASING taxes..

What is so scary about socialism?
kellygiz 2 years ago
Hundreds of millions of people have been murdered under socialist regimes including the Nazis (national socialists), Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Pol Pot, etc. Additionally hundreds of millions more have been denied freedom by socialists.
Socialism is the opposite of the limited government and expanded personal liberties that the founding fathers believed in.

RockawayRiotSquad 2 years ago 2
Um, the question was what is so scary about socialism, I maintain that Pol Pot is a great example of why socialism is so scary, as are Hitler, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, etc. I did not compare the public option to Pol Pot in any way, also I don't believe I called liberals unAmerican...but you're really defensive about that lol... methinks the lady doth protest too much...
retsep81 2 years ago
yea but the reason those dictator were so evils is because of the millions they killed...u really think the President will do the same? You really think Obama will throw us into full socialism? The Presidency doesn't even have the power to do that...the COngress wouldnt allow it...our very democracy doesn't allow it...we've had socialist policies for a long time...some instituted by the conservative hero, Ronald Reagan...Disgusts me when folks relate the President to murderous dictators
FarRockStandUp 2 years ago
Again the question was what is so scary about socialism. The long list of mass murderers like Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung, etc I think are great reasons why socialism is scary.
To say Obama is a socialist is not to say he is Hitler. It is true that the Nazis were leftists it's not true that all leftists are Nazis. It is important to understand basic history that the Nazis in no way supported limited government or expanded individual rights and were firmly on the side of the left.

retsep81 2 years ago
Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin and Mao, really didn't have much to do with socialism. They were authoritarians. They were mostly socialist in name, but some were democratic in name too. Faux News uses 'socialism' for fear mongering. It has no basis in reality. Note, I didn't promote socialism, I'm just saying that most people have no idea what it really is
hrmIwonder 2 years ago
But of course socialism is authoritarian. For socialism to work you must have an entity that is powerful enough to take from one group to give to another. This creates a dangerous situation where the temptation for the government to become tyrannical is too strong and that has ended tragically over and over as in the cases of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, Mao's China, Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge, etc.
retsep81 2 years ago
Not necessarily. Those guys weren't accountable to the people. There were lacking democracy. As I said, Mao, Pol-Pot,etc. weren't socialists in any meaningful sense of the term. In fact, Pol Pot was Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea. So why aren't we calling him democratic and saying democracy failed? Because that wouldn't fit our agenda. Using Socialist as an insult & a scare tactic is simply dishonest and conveys no meaningful information.
hrmIwonder 2 years ago
All modern day socialists call themselves democratic, North Korea is technically "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" but I don't think there is any democracy going on in North Korea. As for as branding goes it's a good thing to have in your name :) Pol Pot was also the leader of the Khmer Rouge, which was a communist organization.
Socialism robs people of individual freedom, and has resulted in some of the worst mass murders in the history of humanity (Mao, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc).
retsep81 2 years ago
Also this is just an interesting observation. It seems like whenever I mention Stalin, Mao, and Pot Pot, all the socialists say oh no those were communists and all the communists say oh no those were socialists. It's amazing the historical revisionism and denial that liberals live in when defending their past mistakes.
retsep81 2 years ago
Actually, the University of Illinois did an aerial spatial photograph study of the 9/12 crowd and they determined it was 1.7 million. Additionally there were lots of other local rallies all over the country.

the word socialism scares people because it's so often tied in with communism, which 'can' be the case but not always. many of the industrialized nations, such as france for one example, have a succesful socialist party in their gov't. France has one of the best health care systems in the world and it's socialist.

Caution is good. Total Cynicism is bad.

I ask you this - what gives you so much faith in government?
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
Here is the situation:
That is reality.

We can't live by seeing anyone leave behind as manipulated. Reform must be pushed on government level. Don't make us strip your power as a last resort.

A bunch of republican lies. Canada has gov health care and guess what? Grandma lives longer there than she does here in the states because she can acttually afford to get the care and the medicine she needs instead of having to go without food to afford her medicine.

Obama lies. If the House bill passes, a panel of government employees will decide if your grandma lives... or dies.

Utter utter horseshit..
You are an easily lead ignoramous...try comparing, for example, the life expectancy of women in Canada to the life expectancy of women in the US.
While you're at it, compare and contrast the current amount spent per capita on health care compared to the rest of the OECD nations...
Either you're ignorant, stupid, easily led or a Republican shill who lies blatantly...what is it?
warrensson 2 years ago
I speak the truth friend. As global credit dries up, government controlled health care will have to be rationed. As always, the first to be sacrificed with be the elderly and the very young. Before long (as in the UK) it may be criminal to try and purchase your own care beyond the reach of the ever expanding state apparatus. Lets just pray that Mexico remains a fairly free nation, so we can at least head south of the border for timely and effective care when we really need it.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
So how many Americans flock to get healthcare in Canada? I think you'd be hard pressed to find any. However, thousands of Canadians come to America for healthcare when they could get it for free in their own socialist utopia... why is that?
retsep81 2 years ago
Actually, plenty of Americans go to Canada, some even specifically marry Canadians to get their health care.
HentaiGuy42 2 years ago
No...you're lying.
Check the life expectancy of American women to that of Canadian women.
Idiot.

I recommend you look check into cancer survival rates, friend.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff-Cancer survival rates are one of the few stats that America can be proud of.
But we are bottom of the list for the financial burden we place on our citizens.
givethemahand 2 years ago
We do have a flawed system, one that is over-regulated on both the state and national levels. A truly free marketplace for medical goods and services is the only answer. Non regulated medical services such as lasik surgery and cosmetic surgery have gone down in price over the last 20 years while quality and safety have improved.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff- A major feature of the bill that the republicans are trying so hard to kill..is a thing called an "Insurance Exchange". that basically forces insurance companies to compete on price and benefits at a national level.
We sure wouldn't want actual competition would we?
We complain about government intervention in the "free market"...but now that government wants to promote competition...we don't really like free markets that much after all. How dare the government force us to compete!
givethemahand 2 years ago
No, that is just government regulating the industry still further. The health insurance companies can compete just find if the government would just get out of the way.

What?
Though I am no fan of Barney Frank...in this case I would use his famous answer, offered to another person that is as clueless as you are.
"On what planet have you been living?"
givethemahand 2 years ago
The companies are both heavily regulated and protected from competition. People are not allowed to buy insurance from another state, and the services provided are carefully regulated by both state and federal government. If the market was opened up to real competition, without the manipulative hand of government restricting out choices, prices would fall and quality would rise, just like in every other free market industry.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jef- "The companies are both heavily regulated and protected from competition. People are not allowed to buy insurance from another state,"
A. Our insurance companies ARE NOT heavily regulated..thats a right wing talking point
B The whole point of the "Insurance Exchange" is to allow people to buy from other states and to comparison shop. That my friend is DEREGULATION.
You are arguing against what you claim to want.. trying to kill a bill that supports your own professed point of view.
givethemahand 2 years ago
That is exactly false. The health insurance industry is heavily regulated. The so-called Insurance Exchange is simply a means to add still more regulations that an already over regulated industry. They try and tell us we should compare apples to apples, but not all of us like apples. Some of us prefer oranges.

(continued)
You don't seem to see it. But, this new legislation is trying to undo some of the stuff you are railing against.
But, you are so sure that everything the government does is wrong...that you will not give them a chance to undo their own mistakes or to intervene on your behalf with monopolies that are screwing you and your neighbors.
I find your ideology based line of reasoning to be intellectually dishonest, emotion based, and not well thought out.
givethemahand 2 years ago
its funny how you end each of your posts will an attack against me. Thats a real classy move.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff...please go back and look at my posts again...there are very few personal attacks. If you tried to engage in a debate instead of posting talking points...I would probably not zing you at all
Peace
givethemahand 2 years ago
These are not talking points. This is a basic pro-liberty critique of the government's claim that it can better manage our lives and choices than we can.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jef-
But you are not managing your health care costs...some multi millionaires, that live in mansions, and fly in private jets, are managing your health care costs. Men who can not be voted out of office. Men who have perpetual control over a crucially important aspect of your existence.
Your ability to "manage" under the current system is an illusion.
givethemahand 2 years ago
I am not a big fan of the current system - in a more deregulated market I would have less insurance and pay for more goods and services in cash, but those options are not available to me due to current law in my state.
I have no problem with CEOs making a lot of money, just as I don't care how much money NBA players make. They make as much as somebody thinks they're worth.
In a free market, I could easily fire the evil rich man. If I try to fire the government, I end up in prison.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff- I'm sorry...but you are reverting to ideological talking points.
An Insurance Exchange restores competition where there is none. We can agree to disagree on why there is no competition...old regs or insurance company collusion.
My point: is: The proposed Insurance Exchange promotes competition for both benefits and price. It undoes the very things you complain about.
Please tell me why that would be worse than what we have now.
givethemahand 2 years ago
That is the spin, yes. But the reality will be quite different. Do we need a government computer exchange to make sure all computers are the same and cost the same? Of course not. Under the current house bill, I (a childless man) will have to pay for prenatal care. This is the sort of crazy thing that happens when government demands we all behave the same way, according to their wishes.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff- "If I try to fire the government, I end up in prison."
That sure sounds like a talking point to me. And it is not even true.
that was certainly not the experience of the 80 million people that voted to fire the Republicans in the last election.
givethemahand 2 years ago
it is exactly true, and no, it is not a talking point. The government makes all kinds of things for me - bombs, roads, Chevys. Imagine I don't want these things - can I stop paying for them? Yes, I can, but I will end up in prison.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
Jeff- You're talking about taxation in general...thats not the topic of the thread.
Unless you make over $250K as an individual or $350K as a family (adjusted gross) the tax element of this bill does not effect you.
My point is that the insurance companies steel your money as surely as the goct. does. True..you do have the right to go uninsured...but if you or your family gets sick and gets free care...I will pay your bills through higher premiums.
Thats a tax on me..that I didn't agree to.
givethemahand 2 years ago
Your first contention is a little dubious. This program (like every government program) will go way over budget. After 20 years, figure the thing will cost 5 times more than they currently project. We'll all end up paying somehow. And of course its easy to forget that our country is massively in debt.
Currently I have a limited right to buy insurance. I can select from a variety of companies. In a freer market I would have more choices.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff-" In a freer market I would have more choices."
Hello Jeff.......Hello.......thats in the bill you are trying to kill.
It's called the "Insurance Exchange" and it is one of the cornerstones of the legislation.
givethemahand 2 years ago
Don't buy the lies. The so-called "Insurance Exchange" is just another way to over regulate the industry.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jef- I'm sorry..thats a talking point.
Nothing to back it up..just your gut feeling.
There..thats my talking point :)
givethemahand 2 years ago
I have not heard any such talking point. To your broader point - this country was founded on a fundamental mistrust of government. We don't have to trust companies, because the interactions we have with companies are voluntary. If we don't like them, we (each of us as an individual) can shop someplace else.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff-"interactions we have with companies are voluntary"
Not in the case of health insurance. You either pay their rates (double what anyone pays)..except their exclusions and copays (many times what others pay)..except their rationing (worse than anywhere in the free world) or you go without, and risk destroying your finances or place the burden for your care on others.
Our system offers anything but freedom..If you "choose it"
you are choosing an illusion of freedom...an illusion of liberty.
givethemahand 2 years ago
if the government simply allowed us to buy whatever kind of insurance we wanted, from whatever source, it would be a whole lot better and cheaper.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff"-if the government simply allowed us to buy whatever kind of insurance we wanted, from whatever source, it would be a whole lot better and cheaper."
It's in the Bill!
It's in the Bill!!!!!!!!!!!
IN THE BILL!...you twit.
Is your brain broken?
givethemahand 2 years ago
no it is not. The government seeks to normalize insurance for all people. They want us to be able to compare apples to apples when choosing a health care package. They plan to do this by making all other fruits illegal.
If they really wanted to increase competition, they would enforce the interstate commerce clause and allow the people do buy insurance from any state or foreign country.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff -"this country was founded on a fundamental mistrust of government."
Bullshit...I'm not going to let you get away with that one.
Our form of "government" (a republic where the majority rules) is something that millions have fought and died for.
Your talking point is utter BS.
You have no clue what being an American is...You have no clue what America is. You have been infected by a disease, spread over talk radio and Fox, by millionaires that want to control you.
givethemahand 2 years ago
So, to you being American involves the government making half of your financial choices? Call me crazy (you have already) but I suspect the founding fathers would be against the interstate highway act, the income tax, Medicare, and of course, this proposed government health care plan. Remember, they rioted over a small tea tax.
Democracy is the second worse form of government ever devised by men.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
jeff- "Remember, they rioted over a small tea tax.
Please study some history.
givethemahand 2 years ago
Would they have favored mandating health insurance? Would they feel there was a need for a government agency to oversee and regulate citizens decisions regarding health insurance? Of course not. That's why nothing of the sort is mentioned anywhere in the Constitution.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
Other things not mentioned in the constitution:
Medicare / Social Security / The US Air Force
Center for Disease Control / FDA / FAA
USDA / College Loans / MediCaid / US Coast Guard
Rural Electrification / Dept. of Homeland Security
FEMA / The Majority of the Water System of the South West
Most of the Hydro Power in the East / The War in Iraq
Shut em all down!!!
Its not in the Constitution!!!
