@agentredlum Just so you know the facts, the scorpions didn't write this song. Jimi Hendrix's last gf before he died wrote it, and she wrote it about Jimi's death as she was there when he died. She then married one of the guitarist of the scorpions and let them use her poem (the lyrics). Scorpions are amazing, don't get me wrong. But they did the duplicating in this case.

You can't claim that when you consider that they have a heavy Hendrix/Led Zeppelin influence. I think that they were one of the originators of 80s heavy metal, but they didn't invent it. If anything, you could say that they invented the power ballad. You can trace metal back all the way to cream and to blues music before that.
