I do agree the country's population needs to move on from the past. It isn't only blacks that get treated like crap by cops. I have had long hair most of my life, and I have attracted cops most of my life as well.
I've been surrounded by up to 5 cop cars for walking down the street within my own neighborhood (they said they "smelled pot on me",,this, despite the fact I do not smoke pot or anything else, and they were driving by in their cars at a distance with their windows rolled up) and I have been chocked and hung off the side of buildings.
I feel for you, It's not only blacks who recieve this treament. People of color, people with optimistic views, people of tolerance... I dont trust police, yet I dont hate them.. Gates followed him outside continually calling him a racist and threatening him, even talking about his mother. That is when Crowley made his arrest. the only reason why the police station let him go was because the harvard police called (I dont know their exact name) If the police had realized his mistake he would had apologize, the apology is still to be heard. if the case had not gone public he most likely would still be in jail

I am fully aware that racism persists just as much as the ignorance that prevails in these comment sections. I'm sure some of the comments are just asinine remarks from idiots looking to get a response or believe their remarks to be comedic. Its quite sad. It isn't only blacks that get treated like crap by cops. I have had long hair most of my life, and I have attracted cops most of my life as well.
I've been surrounded by up to 5 cop cars for walking down the street within my own neighborhood (they said they "smelled pot on me",,this, despite the fact I do not smoke pot or anything else, and they were driving by in their cars at a distance with their windows rolled up) and I have been chocked and hung off the side of buildings.

I feel for you, It's not only blacks who recieve this treament. People of color, people with optimistic views, people of tolerance... I dont trust police, yet I dont hate them.. There are a few good men and women who are officers who want to make change, but are subjecated to rogue policies and policing.. Blacks are more likely to be treated like crap,than any other groups. I voted for President Obama and I support him 100% on all of the issues. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of respect for him after he commented without knowing the facts on the Henry Louis Gates incident. The president should have read the police report before making any comments on the issue. There were other witnesses there as well who sided with the police. I believe Henry Louis Gates is a racist and President Obama showed racist qualities as well. He will not get my vote in 2012!

I agree MastBlasta. The cops had to show up if called, and I doubt they didn't believe the Doctor when he said it was his house, but cops do not like being treated like they are idiots so I believe the cop got mad and thought he would force respect out of the guy.

Also, I'm not arguing that the police should not have investigated the potential home break-in. If Gates displayed two forms of ID inside the house, the cop should have left...case closed. I don't think you're in any position to critique any elite institution's hiring practices. Dr. Gates didn't say those words. Of course, these "rogue cops" fabricated a "rogue report". We'll see when the recordings are released. The "coon" cop should have been professional.
