I believe that the Col.Kane character was so Christ-like that if he were alone in this situation he would have let the gang kill him. They could be described even as noble innocent(!) savages, like un-knowing animals. He slaughters them to protect his patient Maj.Cutshaw. He reverts to the ''Killler Kane'' character and kills EVERYONE in the bar yet at no time is he out of control he reverts to his savage training. The military are not police, their job is to kill people and break things.
@Nazzz65 mmm, but Col Kane wasn't a doctor and his patient was not Maj Cutshaw. Col Kane was being allowed to act as one but he was really "Killer" Kane, a decorated U.S. Marine who committed atrocities in Vietnam before going insane and sent to that place....
Christ on the cross comes as the juxtaposition of his good fighting evil. The astronaut was as a lamb looking for deliverance and help from him
This must be the cut version...the original VHS I have is far gorier. close up palm hand strikes and more snapped bones. A powerful film that is mainly remembered unfortunately more for this scene rather than the screen play by Blatty from his original book 'Twinkle Twinkle, 'Killer' Kane. A classic.
Scientists in clandestine subterranean labs, and their loyalists, who terrorize People with synthetic telepathic/neuro-impulse weapons, will meet similar fates.
This Scene epitomizes the silent Warrior, When pushed to the edge He slaughters everything in his path it did not matter the gender of the assailant. this is what a Man can do to EVIL People period. And yet Stacy Keach did everything he could to withhold the Hurricane of rage inside, Astonishing Scene.
I always wondered about the Cleopatra eye liner and the splits and the girly yell when he slams a fist on Kanes back, he is like an enraged diva. He puts up the least amount of fight when it starts. Kanes willingness to hit women was also a great feature as most movies would have been too scared to do it. Nothing better than his facial expression right before he grabs the main bikers hand, it says "Knock knock, who's there? Colonel Fucking Kane, thats who!!!"
Ah yes...one of the all-time greatest fight scenes in film history. Not overly choreographed. Not filmed too close. No shaky camera. Just beautiful simplicity.
I saw this film years ago and thought it was excellent then. I even thought that it was funny in parts. It's about time this film was shown again on the telly.
Yeah, like "negotiating with our enemies so they'll be nice to us" really works here (or anywhere in real life, for that matter). There's never been a movie that points out how people who want to kill you need to be DEFEATED better than this one...bar none.
@JuliaBuberger Huh? In this scene? Or in the movie? He's obviously not in this scene, and if you look up the film on the internet you'll know he is in the movie. I don't understand questions that get asked like this with such obvious answers to them.
Yep, typical biker scum, hope he killed every one of thiose scumbags. they remind me of the typical biker scum, cowardly and real tough when in a pack, balless on their own. lol
Killer Kane endured everything when it shamed only him and did not fight until his friend was in danger. Up to then he tolerated it, it harmed only him so he did not care. When he knew his buddy was not going to get away and was being abused he came alive, best scene in the movie. Hard to pick a scene where the people who die deserve it more than here.
@AkamaruBlade If you've never seen this movie and want to see it because of the action in this clip, you might be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's one the best films I've ever watched, but it DEFINITELY is not an action flick. It's almost sad that you'd see this clip first because it's a climactic scene in the movie.
Could William Peter Blatty have been inspired by the shootout scene in Taxi Driver when he made this scene? I know the 2 scenes have little in common but the way Col. Kane kills those guys, very cold and methodical yet at the same time very animalic, really reminds me of Travis Bickle for some reason.
This is the movie that made me a Stacy Keach fan! Everyone in the film is brilliant and perfectly cast, but he just inhabits the role of Kane like no one else can. This is the one film I just watch over and over again and always find it fresh and challenging.
I met Scott Wilson at the bar in the Bicycle Club in Santa Monica, and I told him that his role in the film (the guy that Keach doesn't annihilate in this scene) was one of the most gripping and memorable roles I had ever seen in a film. Then I bought him a beer, which he gratefully accepted
This film is amazing . I have read the book too . Twinkle twinkle Killer Kane. The author wrote the Exorcist . In that book and the film , when Regan goes berserk while there are guests in her house she speaks to the astronaut and asks him why is he afraid.William Peter Blatly said the 9th configuration was linked to the exorcist. Good verses evil . Keach was awsome as Killer Kane. My all time favourite film.
I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I only watched this to figure out if is this movie is the origin of the famous "Youraaaaaagh!" scream. But it seems like it was just a stock scream in this movie too.
But anyway, I like the look in that guy's eyes before he kicked everyone's ass. It's fun rooting for the underdog!
@Braenchild82 But it seems like it was just a stock scream in this movie too.
No, this is really the film where that scream originated. In fact, the two screams you can hear in this scene are different, and the so-called "Howie scream" that was re-used in so many films is the second one.
sometimes people who think there so tough and hide behind others by sheer numbers ,should never assume just because someone seems so mild and harmless should still be shown respect, you NEVER know who your messing with.then that person is shown really hes only a puny human made of only dust.
Great fight scene. The vengeance factor is high and the blows delivered are very realistic, lethal blows; Killer Kane unleashes a whirlwind on the enemy. A+!
This is a great movie. I own it. I do have a few criticisms. A tough biker does the splits, wears mascara and screams like a girl? Weakens the scene, makes it qwerky, awkward, lessens the emotional impact, makes the villains less threatening. And the jet pack scene. WTF? I often find myself editing this film in my head. With a few minor tweeks, it wouldn't feel so dated. It would be more of a timeless, near classic film. The comedic touches are great, but lose some of the flaky, fantasy crap
Great movie...best moral pretense for ever showing gratuitous violence....it actually makes sense & is not gratuitous at all given the context within the film since it is really the only action sequence other than the brief Nam flashbacks so this gives it it's power to a large degree.
Hats off the Blatty....who cares if the film was panned. Just showa most critics dont' have the intelligence to know a good film when they see it. simply because they couldn't pigeonhole it & it challenged them.
Moral of the story; NEVER piss off a Marine....you don't know what can happen.
I say that from being a Corpsman and watching those guys at work in a brawl and stitching them up afterwards.....they came out way better than the civilians who started the fight.
This is why this movie works so well - a lot of M*A*S*H like comedy, parceled with the questions of the Meaning of Life, and then one of the most unsettling bar-fight scenes in the history of movies.
Tension, mood, and atmosphere the likes of which very few filmmakers could even dream of acheiving, and the most uplifting, thought-provoking ending I've ever seen. This film is a work of art, unforgettable.
in fact, the first time they reuse the scream is at 4:05. doesn't this film stick in your craw? it is the ultimate for guys who like movies, flick. this and Runaway Train. this was a gay biker's gang, right? william peter blatty: great writer and a fine director.
The impact of this scene is devastating. Blew me away when I first saw it, still does. If there were ever any cinematic scumbags that needed to get whacked, it's these guys.
When I first saw this film I was feeling really helpless for Kane and Cutshaw - when Kane finally let those worms have it I was QUITE edified. I wanted to see this scene again, much to the horror of a friend of mine.
