  • Very interesting! Can you please tell us why the musicians are using European Renaissance musical instruments in this video?

  • @dbadagna The piece they are performing is call 教坊記 "Mémoire des vents du sud". I uploaded a clip of it if you want to take a look.

Is that an actual European Renaissance piece? Coincidentally, my Chinese ensemble (in Cleveland, Ohio,. USA) performed an Irish waltz a couple of weeks ago, called "The South Wind."

  • @dbadagna Doulce Memoire is a French troupe that specializes in Renaissance music and dance performance. Han Tang Yuefu is a Taiwanese troupe that specializes in Middle Chinese music known as Nanguan or Nanyin and dance. These two groups are collaborating to find a common theme and rhythm that connects occidental and oriental royal court cultures and traditions. Pretty interesting and innovative way of weaving together music from across time and culture.

Thanks very much! I wish the uploader could add those details in the video description, for others who may be curious about this video. Do you live in Taiwan and have you seen this group perform?
