OMG - seeing takes me right back to that gig - one of the first ever at Balloch, near Loch Lomond. 'twas truly amazing! If I remember correctly this was of the first live performances of this song (to a stadium size crowd anyways). Still gives me goosebumps to watch ... still love it. Alba gu brath!
Donnie was far superior to bruce and I was very disapointed when I first heard bruce singing donnie's songs but he has made some of the newer songs his own which would probably sound strange if we heard somebody else singing them. So fair dues, I know that you wont all agree but what have we got if they all decided to pack it in? They are still a mega band and Rory is now beginning to show us more of his talent which we only saw glimpses of before.
They are both great singers. Different, but both talented. I'm just glad they didn't pack it in and are still together, albeit changed but still making fabulous music.
I think Bruce is just as good as Donnie. They do, however, have DIFFERENT styles. Donnie was more sing-songy whereas Bruce sounds more American-rockish.
I echo the last comment. Have seen Runrig live many times. Have had the privilege to meet them once at Nottingham concert hall. Donnie was the sound of the band. Bruce is a poor substitute. Just like Bruce Johnson wrecked the sound of The Beach Boys. C'est la vie malheureusement.
I have stated in my will "Flower of the west " to be played at my funeral, every time I hear it tears come to my eyes, it is so moving, especialy as I know of the places in the lyrics.
flower of the west is one of their best eva songs i love it and it inspired ma brother to start drumming, when he was a wee boy hed take ma mums pots and pans and anything he could hit and drum along to this track perfectly. now he has a proper drum kit and he still plays it note perfect.
My uncle stays in the park and I was there on the night- after this night, Im hooked on this song especially. Malky Jones' solo in this song inspired me to play the guitar. NO other band gets a party started like Runrig. It's foot tapping, thigh slapping, howlering, beer swigging great!!
