  • the only diference between bjj and judo is that one uses more ground game than the other one

  • thats pretty cool , but i personally prefer BJJ but theres not a huge difference between them

  • Very cool! You should check out my video on the University of Minnesota judo demo!

  • I did a 5 min full sparring MMA round with Miura when he was a bit bigger in Florida in the cage once....I have videos on how to do the Osoto Gari and Ouchi Gari in MMA, look em' up

  • that technique is called tai otoshi

  • OSOTO GARI! *japanese voice*

  • Condit <3

  • To be honest, I always believed that bjj was the most important aspect of mma. But then I saw that judo guys were doing really well with it to especially when they incorporated judo with bjj. Judo kicks ass. And when you combine takedowns from both styles along with the grappling techniques from both styles (Which are almost the same) then you become a submission machine!

  • Holy crap!!! That's good how he plays judo left handed and has an orthodox stance. He can take pretty much anyone down super fast.

  • if you clinch Miura then you loose

  • Miura is now a pro boxer with a record of 6-0 (3 KO's). I guess he just wanted a new type of challenge. Hopefully one day he returns to MMA, but I wish him luck in his boxing career.

  • Wrestling has it's own throws... Suplex, etc.... These are judo trips n hip toss! Great work!

  • @cyrusg72 Wresling has the hip toss, as does Sambo.

  • @MrGatz08 lot's of sambo moves come from judo

  • @erosetcompagnie True that, in fact sambo itself pretty much comes from judo with some other influences.

  • @MrGatz08

I don't see wrestlers use that as often as singles and doubles.

To me i see it as ..

    All go to moves..

BJJ = judo trip and lots of fail singles.

Judo = leg throws, trips. And if your *karo paryisan* then all drop seoi nage.

Wrestling = backwards throw(?) don't know the name. single/double.

  • @OVERCAPITALIZE

    Wrestling = TORSO! I meant torso. :P

  • he did a osoto gari. but with a under hook. i do this move in wrestling but thats cuz I'm a judo practicine

  • My 2 cents the name Ju-jutsu is a very old name so lets all practice and discover our gifting,

  • NO HAND OSOTO! LOL

  • Oh, I see how it is. Comment pending approval. Intellectual cowardice at its best.

  • @MrMZaccone uhhhh actually I just monitor the comments to make sure there is no foul language or childish insults. Out of sheer curiosity, what exactly would there be to cower from intellectually in a video of judo throws?

  • @recshooter Why don't you tell me. Foul language? What's foul? by whose standard? Childish? Same question.

  • @MrMZaccone

"Why don't you tell me" Tell you what?

"by whose standard?" Since I own this channel that would be mine. I derive my standard from Christianity.

"Foul language? What's foul?" Generally four letter words also known as profanity, cursing, etc

"Childish?" Yes, I consider people insulting one another via the internet childish.

"Same question" I have no idea what this statement/question means. I still wonder what there would be to cower from on a video of judo throws.

  • @recshooter One could just as easily categorize those throws as wrestling throws. The fact is that calling them "judo" throws and insisting that's the only source for the techniques is just silly.

  • @MrMZaccone Miura has a judo background, I had to give it a title so I went with that. I certainly don't insist on anything being the only source for any technique.

  • @recshooter Wonderful. I've overreacted and I apologize. Everybody has a bad day, I guess. Sorry about that.

  • @MrMZaccone absolutely no problem..have a good one

  • Who is that japanese guy that have good judo trips? he fought in the ufc I think

  • I was at UFC129 last night. That wanker Joe Rogan said Jason Macdonald's triangle choke was an excellent example of BJJ. North America has no idea of Jujutsu and the history of BJJ. I had to explain that in Judo we call it a sankaku, and in Australia, we are not ignorant.

  • judo Gene Lebell enough said.

  • Condit still won

  • HARAI?

  • @ticosexy22 Tai otoshi, osoto gari and 2 more tai otoshis, then another osoto gari

  • I always wonder why MMA guys don't learn or use more judo/jujitsu throws.

  • This guy has some of the sickest throws. Every fight I've seen of his he pulls out at least two or three ridiculous throws or trips and makes it look easy.

I definitely agree with the person who said "the best judoka in mma right now..."

  • bjj and judo is the best combination! (imo)

  • bjj and judo is the best combination! (imo)

  • Miura/Condit is seriously one of the most truly beautiful MMA matches I can think of, thanks to Miura's throws and trips; even though that was over 2 years ago, even though it was a loss for him, I still look forward to the chance to see Miura compete in MMA again. I hope that even if he doesn't want to go into MMA anymore, he can know that MMA fans appreciate his work and talent!

  • some how he lost this fight

  • I think we are starting see more MMA fighters taking a second look at Judo most of the throws have not been seen by MMA fighters so they don't know how too defend against them grant it Uchi Mata and Harai Goshi seem to be the most used and I seen Tai Otoshi a couple of times and Hawns Seoi Nage but there are so many more throws not yet used.

  • Japanese Jujutsu and Judo wouldn't had existed without Chinese Shuai Jiao and Chinese Qin Na

  • I am a huge fan of mma and I also compete and train in Judo. I compete in Judo as sport not so I can beat people up lol. Its nice to see Judo in mma. Alot of the time when im training you can't see how throws can transfer into mma. But this clip shows it can be very effictive. Thanks :)

  • Miura has actually put his MMA career on hold and is currently a pro boxer. He is 4-0 with 2 KO's. I hope he returns to MMA one day, but I think it's awesome he's pursueing boxing. He has extremely heavy hands, strong, and athletic. The guy was born to fight.

  • The New World symphony is too good, makes me focus on music more than the vid itself ... i came here to watch judo not be forced to pay attention to amazingly good music -- why do you think most people choose less complex music to go with their movies lol

  • Its a shame A LOT of judo does not translate well to no gi. When someone is really sweaty it is almost impossible to execute judo style throws.

Still an awesome art and there are aspects of it that do work very well in MMA.

    PS

Its not about BJJ, JJJ or Judo is the best. Cross training is the way to go, they are all awesome.

  • Nice Japanese Ju Jitsu throws.

  • the best judoka in mma right now...

  • @jeronimtkd He is insane him and Dong Hyun Kim

  • JUDO OWNS

  • The Japanese national that taught the Gracies was actually one the top students of Jigaro Kano.BJJ is really a modified version of randori or Judo ground work. What happened or how?Well Master Kano changed the rules for his Judo matches, because he felt that to much emphasis was placed on strength. There by focusing on the skilled application of throwing techniques as opposed to mainly ground fighting.Japanese Jujitsu is similar but has striking to include, biting, etc.

  • Ok having trained in japanese ju jitsu sambo, wrestling judo and bjj....sambo has loads of throwing raining and bjj lacks the throws...depending on which school you go to anyway...I agree that its more the fighter that matters than the art thou :)

  • @BudoWolfy Your so right! My school bjj lacks the throws.

  • JJ and Muay Thai...best combo in MY OPINION for MMA. JJJ because it has the throws that Judo picked out for them...and the ground fighting game that Judo and BJJ took for their styles. Sambo/Combat Sambo is somehow a lot like JJ...but people still want to put it side by side with BJJ (lacks a lot of throwing training ...) Besides it not the art...it´s the fighter and how well he is prepared ! So choose your styles wisely and fight :)

  • @BFerreira82 i agree judo and muay thai go together well since both work from the clinch

  • @shanexnetherton Yea Judo + Muay Thai = San Shou and its lovely!

  • @BFerreira82 but its hard finding JJJ in the states and Judo and BJJ are more wide spread even with MMA boosting up BJJ , Judo is still in almost every state and almost every city in the U.S. and Judo is much cheaper then BJJ and alot of schools are going back too Ne Waza training so we getting back too heel hooks and akle locks and knee bars so I think if you cross train BJJ and Judo you will have the best of both worlds .

  • great tia tosh there.

  • lol. love the epic soundtrack

  • You know for the life of me I don't understand why more fighters don't try to learn judo. its a great art espicially if you r opponent doesn't count on you using it.

  • @greenbay357 cause much of it requires a gi to use an only a small portion of throws an be used with out grips even with modiflying the throw to make it work with out a gi

  • I agree, in order to submit someone you need a good means of sending them on their back.

  • @jonnysaurusrex not at all!!! have you ever heard of pulling guard? some bjj guys just attach to your body and somehow manage to get you to the ground whether that be on your back or on their backs

  • @hekoka When was the last time you saw guard pulled by the winning fighter in an MMA match? Three years ago? Four?

  • @ooogooman

    Demian Maia vs Nate Quarry?

  • @ooogooman Verdum vs. Fedor ! One of the baddest guards around !

  • @jonnysaurusrex yeah, and wait till you try throw someone whoes 50lbs heavier than you, ends up on top and pounds you out, then maybe you would see the beauty in a simple single leg sweep

  • gracies gave their japanese tenant free rent in exchange free lesson in jiu jitsu....asian people invented fighting

  • @FullBloodedHmoob not boxing or wreslting?or greco either?how bout muay thai?

  • Judoism

  • this was a good fight

  • hahahaha, Flight of the Valkyries, thats funny.

  • o-goshi?

  • Sexy

  • Nice.

  • flight of the valkyries.

  • Sambo is a mix of a lot of styles not just Judo, but it uses Judo as well as traditional Russian folk style wrestling as it's base.

  • who are you guys, do all of you with smart answers actually compete or do you just dit around and read wikipedia all day and night

  • Sounds like someone is still mad about that whole half a century of Russian oppression thing...

  • We are doing Sambo you moron!

  • To be technical, he does Sambo. But Sambo is a descendant art of Judo, so it's basically Russian Judo (BJJ is also a descendant art of Judo).

  • @1ikwid

he does both. he was bronze medal winner in Judo Russia 1999

  • Fedor also has a gold medal in 1997 russian judo championchips

  • BJJ is not a descendant from judo, BJJ came from a modified form of mixed japanese Jiu-jitsu technqiues and judo techniques, they were modified by Mitsu Maeda to use less strength and rely on leverage, the gracies modified this style Maeda created even further and created BJJ

  • Thats right, GJJ or BJJ has nothing to doing with Japanese MA.

  • BJJ wouldn't exist without Japanese JJ and Judo.

  • @unrulyrascal bjj is an emphasis on the ground game, judo is an emphasis on the clinch, thats the way i look at it anyway

  • @unrulyrascal bjj is an emphasis on the ground game, judo is an emphasis on the clinch, thats the way i look at it anyway

  • @unrulyrascal and it still beats the crap out of both :)

  • @unrulyrascal Judo would not exist without wrestling which has it's origins in Egypt/Greece.

  • @Jofus360 judo was created by the japanese. i dont think judo was influenced by wrestling bcoz japan and europe are seperately vastly by their geographic locations

  • @Jofus360- not really. there's many different grappling styles all around the world that were created without ever knowing of each other.

  • @Jofus360 actually grappling is pretty universal to every culture and society...

  • @Jofus360 completely false information. it woudlnt exist withotu the hcinese and indian who collaborated ot make the first martial arts.

  • @thegodofpop1 Yeah but you do realize Chinese martial arts is NOTHING like Japanese martial arts? Two different cultures, traditions, language, AND martial arts.

  • @shattori1 I laughed at your comment.

  • @shattori1 Seriously dude? Both Karate and Jujutsu draw heavily from Kung Fu. There are very explicit instances of Praying Mantis style Kung Fu in Goju Ryu (karate) as well as Crane and Tiger style in Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu. These are just two specific instances, but there are countless others. In fact, Miyagi Chojun, founder of Goju Ryu, trained in China for many years before returning and creating his own style in Okinawa. tl;dr you're severely misinformed.

  • @unrulyrascal

Actually BJJ would not exist without japanese JJ, but Judo and modern JJ came from an old JJ form (specifically Daito-Ryu Aikijujutsu, also gave born to Aikido). so Judo is not father to BJJ, it's like it's "brother".

  • @Sagramorbald Nahhh. I used to think that but apparently it's from judo. They used to call judo kano jujitsu.

  • @Sagramorbald bjj come from aikijujitsu is very very joking.but sure is objectivet of gracies when stolen technique and never gave cradits to judo , I thought cause he enrage when got arm break from KIMURA.

  • @Sagramorbald That's true enough I suppose, but I would clarify and say its "older brother", not just because its in fact an older martial art, but also because there are clear instances where Judo has influenced the BJJ style.

  • @unrulyrascal your correct however judo is comes from japanese jujutsu

  • @unrulyrascal not judo cause bjj has no throw? but jj yes it would not with out that

  • @unrulyrascal yea mainly Japanese jujutsu though since it influenced Judo

  • @dudesrock2 judo came from japanese ju-jutsu ....it's just jujutsu without the punches and kicks

  • @unrulyrascal BJJ it's only a Kyu of japanese Jujutsu/Judo

  • @Samboussr

Yes it does. BJJ just practically takes the Ne-Waza (ground) aspect of Kodokan Judo and improved upon it, making it the emphasis. The result is an ever-evolving style. Carlson and Carlos Gracie trace their lineage to Mitsuyo Maeda and are happy about it, make no mistake. It's only the Helio and Rorion Side of the family that really refuses this...

  • @hazard2000 No, Maeda taught them judo. At the time judo was often misnomered as "jiu-jitsu" because people outside of Japan didn't know the difference. Make no mistake, though. The Gracies developed BJJ from judo.

  • While judo did play a major role in bjj's devolopment, it was only a small fraction of it, the two founders started with judo and did base a bit off of it, but the myth that judo is the base is growing all too quick, it was the thing that inspired the creation of a new art, but not the base of it

I don't want to start an internet debate, but that rumor is growing too much

  • @swampertkid Major role and small fraction are contradictions. BJJ is essentially the newaza of Judo, with added techniques. That makes it more than just a "fraction" of Judo. It's no myth or rumor. It's fact. Not my opinion or anybody else's. It's documented fact.

  • Meada didn't start learning judo until he was 18. Before that he studied ten-shin shinyo-ryu ju jutsu(JJJ). Through actually fighting later in his life he realized that some of the techniques discarded by the kodokan were effective in a real fight. He added these to the curricullum that he tought the gracies.

  • @GreenGold33 Did you even read Maeda's book? I guess not.

  • @GreenGold33 im pretty sure maeda taught the gtracies ju jitsu(submissions and using leverage against ur opponent's limbs). the main techniques and principles behind brazilian jui jistu comes from maeda. the gracies modified things such as using a guard.

  • @GreenGold33 This. A lot BJJ guys don't like to recognize that their sport came from our sport. Just like we should recognize that Jigoro Kano developed our sport from traditional Japanese jiu jitsu

  • Actually, this is only partially true. While Fedor's main grappling base is Sambo, Fedor is a black belt in Judo. He even has a gold medal and bronze medal in Russian national Judo championships.

  • @ecrec08 Sambo is about 80% judo though

  • when drunk, yeah, judo suxs abit, couse you need fast reaction time, but thats when your drunk :D all the other times judo is very good, if you know how to throw a few punches and you know some judo and have reflexive skills, it's great, couse iSlapU4Fun was right, most fights in the street end in a knock out by the first two punches and if not, it ends on the ground, becouse after the two punches the fighters get closer, they start to struggle and thats when you throw em' :)

  • yeah that's good i fight in a judo club and practice some boxing-perfect combination

  • As do boxing, and kickboxing when done right.

  • Boy look at the one at 00:15. If that isn't useful I don't know what is. He's off-balance from missing with his left, and goes for the trip.

  • That's some advertisement for judo

  • ive done alot of boxing now in the army i have taken up judo good idea lol

  • Throws are on of those few techniques that are kool AND practical.

  • Brilliant!!!

  • judo throw than ground and pound or submission is awesome and u can go into it by punching kicking whatever softening techniques

  • i bet that muscle sharks bloke is a dirty lil yank

  • Judo in my opinion transitions into MMA just as effectively as Greco Roman wrestling.

  • And they say Judo throws don't work in a real fight. I beg to differ

  • Who is they? No one ever said they don't work in a real fight... judo is one of the most effective arts to take up, since you can train throws real-time full speed/power just like in a fight.

  • judo doesnt work in a real fight, its not the same as when you have 8 pints on a friday night and scrap in the street, thats real fighting, judo wouldnt stand a chance, nor boxing or kick boxing.

  • @mrarches belive me i have good experience in the streets and iv been training judo in about 10 years (im 18) and 80% of the fight is JUDO. watch all mma/street fights and ull see that it starts with 2 punches then they go in contact and throw, and fight ends mostly on the ground by an arm bend or something!

  • Submissions are more BJJ, if im not mistaken. I dont train judo but it seems like judo is more throws and chokes?

  • @Mihker Judo has submissions as well (arm bars, shoulder locks, etc)

  • @Mihker Both have the same submissions except for knee, shoulder and spine (as far as I know they exist in judo but only in high levels like atemi-waza). BJJ tries to take the fight to the ground where strength is not that important and Judo just tries to blow your back on the ground. lol As a french judo master said "There's no point of fighting on ground if you can throw the oponent from 5 feet high." (Or something like that.)

  • 100% effective both in MMA and in a real fight. If you were to do a Hara Goshi, in a street fight the guy would be out cold. In MMA you would have side control. Either way is a Win!! :)

  • @jkullander at last, some1 that understands!!!! they do WORKKK!!

  • @jkullander and yet - here nobody wears any clothes to grab

  • @jkullander better on the street than in the ring imo. Make someone fall on their face on tarmac or gravel, thats them finished

  • Great balance. Very slick.

  • Fedor its a master of sambo and judo, the throws are practically the same with the exception of sambo allowing leglocks and banning chokes, and judo allowing chokes and not leg locks..Judo can be effective aswell against a topless opponent if its adapted to it...Look how not even coleman could throw mirko on his prime and Fedor put him down using o uchi gari a judo throw...

  • fedor sucks dont mention him any more

  • all those takedowns must earn a lot of points

  • this video is BEAUTIFUL

  • lol, why would the judokas opponent keep clinching with him? thats a terrible idea....especially if you dont know judo

  • I think taijutsu is the most common praticed technique in MMA, because it gives you the best of both worlds in standup and grappling.

  • Nope. Pretty much no professional MMA player practices taijutsu.

  • i think this is very useful in a fight. u can take him to the ground whenever u want. and if the fight ends. u could win by descision easier.

  • but you got to know how to fight on the ground - unless you are a ground and pound guy

  • you know judo is submission grappling as well

it has more takedowns, but thers no lack in groundfighting, ther are a lof of submission moves which were originally founded by judo

remember that all gracie members knew judo b4 they created bjj! they got techniques like the armbar or the gogoplata shin choke (similar to triangle choke) from judo!

  • by viewing it looks like those gloves would make grappling harder.

  • one reason why ther are rarely any top judoka fighters

in judo u use a lot of gipulling to throw and gichoking to submit

its a self defense art, not really made for the ring, yet having a lot of still useful leghooks and throws

  • yeah literally useless aganist an topless fighter because there's no gei to yank on. Very effective in street fights as everyday people tend to wear clothes which makes it easy to grab & choke or throw.

  • @Wolfsbane909, BJJ is a gi art too. If there is no gi then it is submission grappling. BJJ is a Gi traditional martial art. To say Judo could not be used for MMA because of the Gi is to say the same for BJJ

  • useless against a topless fighter??? did you even watch the video?

  • n1 in judo is fedor and hictor and akiyama

  • fedor is basically a sambo fighter.

  • and a national champion in judo, but sambo is influenced by judo anyways, so wth :P

  • judo throw for the win

  • Very good! I am a judoist, and I am happy to see this guy fighting.

  • Judoist? YOU mean judoka?

  • lmao he may also be a karatian

  • @mizdierbeatz lol

  • Comment removed

  • Karo Parysian is the bets at Judo throws, better then this guy.

  • Yeah but he should stick to Judo. He may win most of his matches but he cant finish them.

  • don't clinch with this dude

  • seriously

  • very good

  • nice osoto gari

  • This guy is good but no one has karo's throws in MMA! The way karo adopted his judo is unbelievable / picture perfect / brutal / utterly sick!!

  • Man, that guy has no base watsoever.

  • Condit may have won the fight, but he earned a bunch of sky miles in the process!
