i climbed it 2 days ago. get there early or the guard will turn you away.

I started around 6:30am . takes almost 2 hourd to get to the top. well worth it.

guard was there on the way down. he just asked me to leave and gave me the best directions to do so.

Had some friends go, they left early before the guards got there and on their way back they were greeted with a "Good Morning Trespassers" lol

stairway to heaven huh...one wrong step outside the trail it's stairway to hell......man that's a steep ass hill to climb.......guards? what guards?..why did they shut it down for? where is this at?......I gotta admit, I kinda caught myself catching my own breah lil bit watching this vid...I'd like to know the person who came up with the idea building this.

The city built steps & gate to the access road. Agreement with Hope Chapel was found illegal. Hope Chapel has sublease from Brothers of the Sacred Heart. When all lawyers got involved, the city could not meet their liability requirements. The city then tried a property swapuntil attorneys found a paragraph in the deed preventing a trade. Then Mayor Jeremy's term ended & efforts dropped. A trail from the District Park, thru WCC campus & past HSH to the access road -not optimal- is possible.

yea..it is fun. me and a friend made it about halfway before having to run through the woods from the security guard. made it out without getting caught.

haha my friends and i went there and we got caught 3 times trying to get up there then we just begged the guy and he let us go up he was so nice then we camped over night

i hear the neighbors get cars that are not from the neighborhood towed becuase they assume the abandoned cars are from people hiking the stairs.

Great video! I just climbed the steps the other day. We got there around 7am, and we just beat the security guard (this was on a wednesday, by the way). We could see him drive up when we were only 50 stairs up or so. He just watched us climb and waited until we came down. We took our time and didn't get back down until around 11 or so, and the security guard caught us, but we just exchanged stories with him (another group I talked to took pictures with him). He just took a head count and left...

I was on the island for a month in 2006, and saw people hiking it nearly daily. I found the entrance in the subdivision, but i have a perfect criminal record, and i do not wish to tarnish it with a trespassing charge. I am going again in Nov. 09, and since then i have taken up paragliding, so that will have to suffice for the hike this time. Looks fun, and treacherous though!

I was on the island visiting friends for a full 2 weeks and we were supposed to go do this, but we never did. It actually looks a lot less scary than they made it seem.

It is illegal, its closed to public, if you get caught nothing happens, they tell you to leave, but I went at 7am and no guards were there

I got caught by the guard on my first try lol. The second time I went early and didn't have any problems, although I didn't make it all the way to the top because it was raining and I kept slipping, especially on the vertical parts. Needless to say, I realized I have a fear of heights ...

I can't tell you how many times I passed by the Highway to Heaven...thousands, at least. Occasionally, I saw people making their way up the steps, yeah...Only OCCASIONALLY. Great vid of people actually DOING it! Great shots of the H-3, too!! How BRAVE of you! I LOVE the mountains in HI, but am afraid of heights...YOU DID GREAT!! LOVE YOUR VID. Thanks for posting!
