I took my Axiom pro 61 appart & took the keybead out, its where the key ends rest on rubber gromits, they must stick to the rubber after a day of non use, I tried a drop of lube in each one which was fine for about a week. then it started again.. maybe fabric w or felt should have been used. I might try a silicon based lube . I'll probly just leave it, had it for over a year now and it dosent rly bother me I just mash all the keys before I start and there fine for a few hours.
And those still using windows XP, cmon people. its 2012 soon, windows XP is from 2001, thats 11 years, your using 11 years old software and complain about errors?
This only happens the first time you use it after its been unused, if you press down all the keys once it doesnt happen again until you let it be for a couple days without playing on it, so ist not really an issue.
i have an axiom 49 and the keys are probably one of the best features. I suggest you do what you did in this video and then your keys will "unsticky " themselves. Maybe having some kind of a cloth above it while its restin` could help too. Dont know why its such a big problem for you that you had to make video about it.
If I had to pick something not to like it would be the rotary encoders and the clicky sound they make. I guess they realized it was a fail so the new axiom`s have better one`s.
@shredder370 Yeah, on my Mac Mini I just get this cool infinite rainbow pinwheel/mouse pointer when the system hangs. Much more visually interesting to look at than a boring BSOD, before I hit the power button to cold boot the Mac.
I really don't see the porblem with sticky keys,... i mean,... they're sticky only the first time you press them after some time you haven't played it,... so press all the keys before you start to play and voila - no problem.
the blue screen of death,... well that's another story,... that one really pisses me off and makes me hate m-audio,... i downloaded the new drivers for winxp 3sp,..hope it will help,...
Fuck me.... cheerz for the comments guys.... Minutes ago i was on ebay and nearly clicked the buy now option on the axiom pro 61, but then i started to come across more and more bad reviews. I best do some more research!!!! Sorry some of you guys learnt the hard way but thanks for saving me some shit!!! Ill make sure others who are interested in this product know about its flaws!!!!!!!!!
Should've turned the damn thing back in to the store. Did you fill out the warranty card??? No? hmmm..... ALWAYS fill out and send in the warranty card. And NEVER buy a store's "coverage" plan. That's just a cash cow. Better luck next time ;)
I was beginning to think that only I had this problem, but your's seems even worse. Mine only had it on the white keys, not the blacks. Anyway, now I've got the flickering blue screen of death. M-Audio sucks, I will never buy another product from them.
@Moschimosca Did you buy the Axiom mk2? The one in this video is the old Axiom. I also own the old model and had the sticky keys issue, so I'd be interested to know if the problem has been addressed in the new model. Thanks
@FreakNatureJK hey man, I don't doubt that many M-audio products work as advertised and so they should, my problem isn't even that the axioms are inherently faulty, it's the fact that M-Audio did not want to acknowledge the problem even though their own forums were flooded with people complaining about it, they basically spent two years denying the fault existed. It's all about customer care, M-Audio must take note of firms like R0de, they look after their customers extremely well...
i had this problem. mine also has that sticky keys and some keys were hard to press. all i did was return it. and the second axiom i got was perfect. no sticky/hard keys anymore.
THIS VIDEO IS NOT FAKE! I know because my Axiom Pro has the same exact problem, never buy M-Audio, they'll sell you some shoddy chinese-build crap and they won't look after you when you have problems like this, they'll just deny the problem exists
I have Axiom 49,4-5 months and it's working great. I don't know where you bought this one. So bad if this one was a marketing stuff, just saying. Great MIDI for great price, keys are at good quality beside other MIDI controllers with biger price.
What on earth is this video supposed to prove? What has the clicking sound got to do with anything? Any who does his hand have to move around like something from the Munsters?
@Tatarashvili: NO.., it's NOT... sync-problems with audio and video tracks are common if you work with cheapo gear like I did! You try to discredit me, cause you work for M-Audio, don't you?
No, im not working for M audio actually, i m gonna buy m audio oxygen, not axiom, but when i saw this video, it looks fake. i dought that the sound is added.
@MrFinchMaster well, that' not toally true. Some have, many others don't have that problem, myself included. Do you actually cover your axiom when you don't use it? dust can do some pretty funky thing to anything that is electrical.
I had the axiom 49 sold it and bought the mpk 49 the only thing I liked about the mpk was the note repeat and appregiator other than that it felt very cheap took back to guitar center the next day and trade it in for the 2nd gen axiom 49 couldn't be happier
axiom is shit!!! i have the same problem and that's not all.

i never knew, that this is so common, that they have a name for that.

@LonDonsen appreciate you posting this. i was very close to purchasing one of their keyboards. I guess i'll have to keep my search up. By any chance do you have some suggestions?
@Hasta8meBenny blue screen of death sucks! I once had I happen during sound check TWICE before a show, switched to a macbook pro, and M-audio's drivers aren't needed anymore, so no more crashes :)
personally, I was pleased to find they had a "Sticky feel". I play the organ and some harpsicord, so the little catch in the keys gives it more of a tracker feel to me.
your extremly unlucky my axiom is smooth as hell and has seen all the abuse a keyboard could see ,spilled alcopops into it ,left it for 6 month no play punched it kicked it screamed at it ,and u know what its in perfect condition this controller owns i really dont know why yours is like a slab of cement lol
the akai mpk25 doesnt have that problem i dont think, the axiom prolly has that problem cus that happens sometimes when they try to give it the actual piano feel
Is this problem is only with this specific model (Axiom) or with all M-Audio keyboards, because I'm planning to buy M-Audio Oxygen 61 and I would like to know if I'm buying the right thing. Thanks.
I've played "the fuck outta" my Axiom 61 for about 4 years now, and the keys still stick. I have tried out virtually every MIDI controller keyboard available in the US, and although the sticky keys are annoying, the Axiom is more responsive and expressive than anything else out there with aftertouch. The Xboard's black keys transmit near-full velocity at all times and the Edirol/Cakewalk keyboards require you to put your full body weight into the key to engage the aftertouch.
Calling it a good product other than this annoyance is a great assessment. I kind of just press down on the keys before I turn it on. I keep it around because the keys on the Axiom are actually more sensitive to velocity differences than the $3,000 synth to which I have it hooked up. Using the term "Chinese" interchangeably with "cheap" may not be the highlight of the video, but that's another conversation.
I absolutely honestly don't know what the f is supposed to be the problem right there, just from watching the video alone, also not from reading the description.
@Wiltko Really? The new Oxygen 3rd gen series? I haven't had any problems with stick keys. Only think is that 4 of the transport buttons dont work (which sucks!)
@Wiltko That's unfortunate. The new version has lighter keys, so they don't stick. It's probably a manufacturing fault from M-Audio. Makes me want to avoid the Axiom Mk II series, which I've had my eye on for a month.
from what Ive read u have to take it appart and beneth the keys u will see a foam u need to relese the air that is traped beneth the foam just untape it and tape it again with some good glue that should do it
This really, REALLY made me laugh to watch. Enough to put it on my favorites and show my friends. The Novation Remote had an issue where they stopped working all together after a month, they probably fixed it by now I hope.
This problem is not solvable. Some people have the stickiness all the time, so if it's smooth afterwards, maybe all the rubber seals didn't crack or break.
I had the 25-key version for almost a year and had sticky keys as well. I wanted a good portable midi keyboard( have a hammer action Motif ES8). I learned for the second time that being a pianist, I will never buy an M-Audio keyboard again. They have terrible action/quality. Their Oxygen was horrible but this thing is also overpriced for the build quality. Same goes with their audio interfaces.
Poor Chinese quality is sort of redundant but they make what cheap-assed companies tell them to make. That is a strange problem, though. I might look at Novation Nocturn instead.
M-Audio.. .sucks my friends I sold my 88 m-audio pro controller for the same reason described in this video.... m-audio is budget and I knew that... It's really a matter of how long will you put up with an inferior quality product.
watched the video again to get a better idea what you were talking about with the keys sticking.... seems to be a defective product bro. it happens a lot with M-Audio. got a set of their monitors before that didn't work at all out of the box.
I have a M-audio Oxygen 25 and m-audio 61es, and never had this problem, the 61es is semi weighted also. I would say that that batch of keyboards just went bad
yeah i have this controller and mine came fucked up as well. they special ordered another one with a 15% restocking fee and now its not compatible with windows 7.
jazzowacko, were not asking for a Steinway, just a serviceable synth action board. A have a stage piano with full weight when I need to play a sensitive piano piece. This doesn't even cut it for layering a pad with any amount of sensitivity at all unless you are a headbanger.
Yep, just returned mine. Played the heck out of it for 2 weeks and still the keys were sticky on first touch.
M Audio is a joke. They knew about this problem with the old Axiom and now, go watch their video demonstrating this at NAMM. They make a big deal about the greatly 'improved' and 'pro feel' of the keyboard as a new feature.
You are right, they have a horrible keyboard. M Audio SUCKS. Everything they make is compromised by the marketing and bean counter department.
kingofkeyboards... plastic 'synth' style keys do not mean a 'cheap' feel. A well made plastic 'semi weighted' action can be very nice and useful for certain types plating e.g. triggering pads, synths and even drums, where a piano action does not work well.
just keep playing it, then there will be no problem :->>. my keystation pro has noisy key action, but in reality makes very little difference. Even real pianos produce some mechanical noise.
i just bought this controller.. first time i open it from the box, yes it's a little bit sticky.. but after 2 days, everything was awesome.. the keys is so comfort. don't compare this controller with 3000 bucks like yamaha. this is a perfect controller for 300 bucks.. You just need to use it.. not put this controller as a show off in your living room.. :)
put a tiny bit of oil betwenn the keys truss it works good and smoother but dont use too much
or else itll be a mess any oil is fine just a drop inbwetween keys thts all u need and then press all the keys 2 times and itl be fine and never it will be sticky i did this and i have no probz
Clearly from reading the comments on this video there's a 50/50 about this problem. Some people have this problem some people think it's because it's new. Personally I'd stop making a fuss whoever made the video cos for the price what did you expect heavy hammer action keys?
@LonDonsen i think the main thing about this keyboard is the amount of features that it offers within the realm of production. i think it's a production tool first, and a keyboard second. if you were looking for something with great action and great feel you should be looking at something else besides these $300 production keyboards. these are apples and pianos are oranges. if you're looking for an orange, buy an orange.
I just got a Axiom 61, and um keepn it! Always negativity huh? Well it goes together, positive negative. The positive side to this controller is that it does everything a $2500 one does, saves me money, go Axiom!
Are you guys too sluggish to read more than one comment? My Novation Remote is brand new and the keys feel ultra smooth, so recommendations like these (you were not the 1st one) are completely useless!
My new Novation Remote 49SL MkII plus unboxing video is here. Look at the video response section. The Novation keyboard is really awesome. It's just 2 days old and NOT sticky at all and I'm sure it never will be! Automap is 10 times better and faster than the M-AUDIO mapping pain in the ass trash!
it's a cheap way to give you key resistance so they feel weighted. You can buy more expensive controller or just play the heck out of the thing. The Korg, Roland, etc.. with realistic feel, 800 to 2500 US dollars, average for decent $1200. Buy a cheaper controller with less features and crappy feel if it really bothers you.
Wow, my first gift for 2010... Massive price drop for Novation Remote 49 and 61 SL MKII. The 49 version is now 369.- € and the 61 is 449.- € Thank you NOVATION. Say good bye M-AUDIO. I will never buy a product from this company again.
@mariotardini I feel that neither the Edirol or the M-Audio should do this. I think it's just bad engineering that apparently has been implemented by more than one manufacturer.
I was literally days away from ordering the Axiom 61. Thanks for posting this. This also led me to the M-Audio forum where this is discussed. What a shame. This controllers feature set and price point are absolutely perfect for me. I think I'll stick with (no pun intended) using my old Roland XP-30 as my MIDI controller.
What about the Akai 61 key MIDI Controller, has anyone tried that....I'm thinking of possibly getting one because something is wrong with my Axiom:( I'm already getting refunded but I need to know what to get next so that I don't have to deal with the same problem. What about the new 88 Key?
Hi guys U'r so right! I very regret choosing cheap Axiom61. Reasons:(1)STICKY keys! (2)all the interstices(the space between each two keys)are not the same!(3)the corners of white keys are a bit sharp! (4)the LED screen is too easy to break down! It happened under my year warranty and the shipping fee for this oversize pack made me crazy!!! I'm not buying cheap China-Made shit anymore=__="
i got the axiom 61 back in july '09 and it's now october, and the keys are STILL STICKY! on top of that, now my computer doesn't recognize it, and i'm getting the blank "blue screen of death" when i power it on. I'm still under my year warranty (because I bought it from an authorized dealer) but m-audio is making me pay shipping to CA from CT, and it's like $27 from fed ex. gonna take a week to ship, 1 to 2 weeks to fix, and probably another week to ship back. many problems, but a great board
OMG i got the blue screen of death too and I bought the axiom 61 yesterday... WHY??? I treated this keyboard like a princess what can I do to solve this problem, they must to send me another keyboard or something else??? I though I was the only man with this problem :S it reminds me the circle of death in Xbox 360 just a lame product KIDS PLEASE AVOID M-AUDIO PRODUCTS THEY SUX >:(
@VFutureTV \\This is the SUCKIEST controller ever! I had HUGE problems with the 61 key unit. I DO NOT recommend this controller to anyone! M-AUDIO Sucks!
@LittleNegrilio AMEN TO THAT!!! M-Audio SUX LIKE HELL!!! I can't believe it... there is too much blah blah blah about m-audio products... m-audio is really bad they are wasting all the money in advertising instead the development of better products D: It's incredible how bad can be some products on the market I will never buy M-audio again in my entire life D:
@LittleNegrilio then wat the fuck do u suggest? all people do is complain and never make any positive suggestions. seems like there really isnt any good controller unless u shell out thousands.
its sounds like this because its brand new and it of course it feels sticky. but give it some time and then you`ll get some dirt in between and that`s gonna give it a beeter feel. haha or take the axiom iapart and put some padding in betwwen the keys and the housing
Got the Pro version, and I must say the keys are almost fantastic, they do stick at first but its more like your second pass, and after I've pressed all my keys then its non-existant, so they have improved it . I'm very happy with it!
Whowwa???? just realised you cheated man :-( I'm cross at you, listen to the background noise levels when you press the keys, youve amplified it & muted the inbetween parts LMAO
So what to get instead of m-audio axiom?

I absolutely honestly don't know what the f is supposed to be the problem right there, just from watching the video alone, also not from reading the description.

The same fuckin thing with my oxygen61.
WTF?
Wiltko 1 year ago
@Wiltko Really? The new Oxygen 3rd gen series? I haven't had any problems with stick keys. Only think is that 4 of the transport buttons dont work (which sucks!)
corndogers564 1 year ago
@corndogers564 Nope, I have an old one, with silver case, not new black ones
Wiltko 1 year ago
@Wiltko That's unfortunate. The new version has lighter keys, so they don't stick. It's probably a manufacturing fault from M-Audio. Makes me want to avoid the Axiom Mk II series, which I've had my eye on for a month.
corndogers564 1 year ago
@corndogers564 I bought mine almost 2 years ago, so probably that was an unknown problem in m-audio
Wiltko 1 year ago
from what Ive read u have to take it appart and beneth the keys u will see a foam u need to relese the air that is traped beneth the foam just untape it and tape it again with some good glue that should do it

OMFG!!! This is the SUCKIEST controller ever! I had HUGE problems with the 61 key unit. I DO NOT recommend this controller to anyone! M-AUDIO Sucks!
LittleNegrilio 1 year ago
I DONT HAVE THAT PROBLEM AND MY SHIT NEW!!!
xredeyez7x 1 year ago
I had the 25-key version for almost a year and had sticky keys as well. I wanted a good portable midi keyboard( have a hammer action Motif ES8). I learned for the second time that being a pianist, I will never buy an M-Audio keyboard again. They have terrible action/quality. Their Oxygen was horrible but this thing is also overpriced for the build quality. Same goes with their audio interfaces.
IvoryDom 1 year ago
Poor Chinese quality is sort of redundant but they make what cheap-assed companies tell them to make. That is a strange problem, though. I might look at Novation Nocturn instead.

M-Audio.. .sucks my friends I sold my 88 m-audio pro controller for the same reason described in this video.... m-audio is budget and I knew that... It's really a matter of how long will you put up with an inferior quality product.
rrmd2007 1 year ago
Mine has the same problem but I never would have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out lol
robbie5665 1 year ago
watched the video again to get a better idea what you were talking about with the keys sticking.... seems to be a defective product bro. it happens a lot with M-Audio. got a set of their monitors before that didn't work at all out of the box.
aschleman 1 year ago
I have a M-audio Oxygen 25 and m-audio 61es, and never had this problem, the 61es is semi weighted also. I would say that that batch of keyboards just went bad

PabloDarioLi 1 year ago
yeah i have this controller and mine came fucked up as well. they special ordered another one with a 15% restocking fee and now its not compatible with windows 7.
AbelineMusic 1 year ago
jazzowacko, were not asking for a Steinway, just a serviceable synth action board. A have a stage piano with full weight when I need to play a sensitive piano piece. This doesn't even cut it for layering a pad with any amount of sensitivity at all unless you are a headbanger.
Patriot1962 1 year ago
Yep, just returned mine. Played the heck out of it for 2 weeks and still the keys were sticky on first touch.
M Audio is a joke. They knew about this problem with the old Axiom and now, go watch their video demonstrating this at NAMM. They make a big deal about the greatly 'improved' and 'pro feel' of the keyboard as a new feature.
Avid should be ashamed at owning this company.
Patriot1962 1 year ago
You are right, they have a horrible keyboard. M Audio SUCKS. Everything they make is compromised by the marketing and bean counter department.
kingofkeyboards... plastic 'synth' style keys do not mean a 'cheap' feel. A well made plastic 'semi weighted' action can be very nice and useful for certain types plating e.g. triggering pads, synths and even drums, where a piano action does not work well.
Patriot1962 1 year ago
Did anyone have this problem with the keys, then after a lot of use, it stopped happening?
Was thinking of getting the axiom pro vs novation slmk2?
Has anyone tried both machines and which did you prefere and why?

just keep playing it, then there will be no problem :->>. my keystation pro has noisy key action, but in reality makes very little difference.

Were your keys sticky at any point after you made this video?

put a tiny bit of oil betwenn the keys truss it works good and smoother but dont use too much
or else itll be a mess any oil is fine just a drop inbwetween keys thts all u need and then press all the keys 2 times and itl be fine and never it will be sticky i did this and i have no probz

Clearly from reading the comments on this video there's a 50/50 about this problem. Some people have this problem some people think it's because it's new. Personally I'd stop making a fuss whoever made the video cos for the price what did you expect heavy hammer action keys?
kingofkeyboards 2 years ago
When the main thing on a keyboard-controller (the keyboard) sucks then 300 bucks are way too much.
LonDonsen 2 years ago
@LonDonsen i think the main thing about this keyboard is the amount of features that it offers within the realm of production. i think it's a production tool first, and a keyboard second. if you were looking for something with great action and great feel you should be looking at something else besides these $300 production keyboards. these are apples and pianos are oranges. if you're looking for an orange, buy an orange.
aschleman 1 year ago
I just got a Axiom 61, and um keepn it! Always negativity huh? Well it goes together, positive negative. The positive side to this controller is that it does everything a $2500 one does, saves me money, go Axiom!

MickeyMontz 2 years ago
My new Novation Remote 49SL MkII plus unboxing video is here. Look at the video response section. The Novation keyboard is really awesome. It's just 2 days old and NOT sticky at all and I'm sure it never will be! Automap is 10 times better and faster than the M-AUDIO mapping pain in the ass trash!
LonDonsen 2 years ago
it's a cheap way to give you key resistance so they feel weighted. You can buy more expensive controller or just play the heck out of the thing. The Korg, Roland, etc.. with realistic feel, 800 to 2500 US dollars, average for decent $1200. Buy a cheaper controller with less features and crappy feel if it really bothers you.

mate you just need to play it in! its new, keys are obviously gonna be sticky! mines is fine once used a few times!

Its not really a problem. Before playing u just press down all the keys quickly.
They tend to stick slightly if u dont use them.
I wouldnt buy a new keyboard because of this issue.

Wow, my first gift for 2010... Massive price drop for Novation Remote 49 and 61 SL MKII. The 49 version is now 369.- € and the 61 is 449.- € Thank you NOVATION. Say good bye M-AUDIO. I will never buy a product from this company again.
LonDonsen 2 years ago
the same does my edirol PCR! so it's not m-audio fault
mariotardini 2 years ago

What about the new 88 Key?

fnub 2 years ago
Hi guys U'r so right! I very regret choosing cheap Axiom61. Reasons:(1)STICKY keys! (2)all the interstices(the space between each two keys)are not the same!(3)the corners of white keys are a bit sharp! (4)the LED screen is too easy to break down! It happened under my year warranty and the shipping fee for this oversize pack made me crazy!!! I'm not buying cheap China-Made shit anymore=__="
jingmusic 2 years ago
well then... what else to buy with the same features and similar pirce?

I'll be honest, out of all the MIDI controllers I have used my Axiom 1 is the best ever.
That includes using a Yamaha CVP electric piano for a while.

i got the axiom 61 back in july '09 and it's now october, and the keys are STILL STICKY! on top of that, now my computer doesn't recognize it, and i'm getting the blank "blue screen of death" when i power it on.
KennyBucketz 2 years ago
OMG i got the blue screen of death too and I bought the axiom 61 yesterday... WHY??? I treated this keyboard like a princess what can I do to solve this problem, they must to send me another keyboard or something else??? I though I was the only man with this problem :S it reminds me the circle of death in Xbox 360 just a lame product KIDS PLEASE AVOID M-AUDIO PRODUCTS THEY SUX >:(

its sounds like this because its brand new and it of course it feels sticky. but give it some time and then you`ll get some dirt in between and that`s gonna give it a beeter feel. haha or take the axiom iapart and put some padding in betwwen the keys and the housing
Ometopada 2 years ago
Got the Pro version, and I must say the keys are almost fantastic, they do stick at first but its more like your second pass, and after I've pressed all my keys then its non-existant, so they have improved it . I'm very happy with it!
