Can't believe people are so excited about these MLC SSDs. I haven't seen a single clip on youtube with someone testing an SLC SSD...and probably won't. Check out the specs on the new OZC Vertex 2 EX Series....or check the price first, then come back and watch these videos...Guaranteed to make you laugh...or cry.
i have been thinking of buying a SSD to my MacBook early 09, im "working" as webdesigner and coder, do you think 60GB is enoth for Photoshop, Adium, Cyberduck and smultron?
60GB should be enough. even with my 30GB boot camp partition and many programs installed on my mac partition i have still 80GB of free space on my 120GB SSD.
Is it really worth spending $500 for an SSD? I want my next Macbook Pro to have the SSD, but it's way too expensive now. I'm waiting for the prices to go down, but as of now the price is too high.
@GarrettBMXes pc's are always ahead of the game. but you cannot compare apples and peaches. if you want design and perfection you go apple, if you want uglyness and sheer power you go pc
yea, mac is also a pc, but harder to mod, because apple dont want you to. so in a way i respect mac modders more than pc modders, albeit from the consumer brainwashed mac user, who always follow tales of apple like more ram is the solution to everything. that said, why would you compare booting windows to booting macosx, its two outstandingley diffeferent OS systems and to say one is better than the other is sheer trolling.
@lakshmere i wholeheartedly agree :P and we dont like trolls ;)
I use my mac mini as a student becase i like the software and time machine is great :) its fast, and more reliable. I mod my machines, and definetly think apple ram is a ripoff. I have windows in bootcamp for when i want to play those old games - not much hardware required, and i have all 3 game consoles for my hardcore gaming :D (xb360 ps3 and wii).
@GarrettBMXes No one ever said PC's arent beautiful. and we know that PC actually stands for "personal computer" but that was back in the 90's. today, it stands for windows machine.
with the mac, its all about the OS and software, sure they are pretty but so are some other machines. THe real beauty is how user friendly OS X is. and please dont start that crap about macs not being for real tech users and "macs are just toys" (Garret that wasnt aimed at you, but i know someone will try).
I know exactly what Mac computers are used for. Most often serious video editors and some serious media development. Mac computers are awesome, just not for everyone.
@GarrettBMXes Wow. that's what i've been trying to say lol. yeah. macs are amazing inside thier very specific uses - just like every other device apple releases :)
@dinjin201 Absolutely. I think the Mac vs PC scene is just ridiculous. Both do what they are designed for, and they are suited for their users. Mac is great at what they do, and Windows based PC's are great for what they do.

Microsoft tries to take software, and let it be driven by hardware it supports many more powerful chips and Graphics cards.
Apple tries to take hardware, and drive it to new heights using software. This is evident in the iphone screen. the actual hardwaer isnt much different from what other touchphones have. however, software engineering and tuning has done wonders for how amazingly responsive and iphone feels. that's the fundamental difference.
@Fleischmann2000 Actually (sorry to kinda correct you) the mac edition is 10 MB/s slower in BOTH read and write speeds. you are actually getting the same performance as my mac mini in startup and shutdown cuz the ssd is hanging. The slower speed mac edition ssd in "numbers" is an apple tested and apple approved ssd that is far superior. From what i understand (i talked to OCZ support about this) they are slowed down to prevent hang issues that hamper performance.
Why did you pause it ? Then the whole movie tells me nothing, because you COULD had started some of the programs in advance, so that they are loaded into ram.. My Unibody Macbook 2.4 is just as fast(if not faster?) with regular harddrive if I start them one time first.
So just to sum up how I would have shown the speed of an SSD drive: Start the computer, start applications (cold started) in ONE clip, so everyone can see that its not tampered with.
I see you are smart, but I assure you, that the programs were cold starts. I'm not making any Ad for OCZ or Apple or something like that. Just want to share my experience with the rest of the world.

What kind of battery life do you get with the ssd in there?
The1andonlyBYack 2 years ago
i recently installed snow leopard which gives me a battery run time of about 4 hours when doing some office work or surfing the web.
Startup time decreased to 25 sec.

@GarrettBMXes i dont think that is achievable with a HDD, let alone an SSD.

i know that, for some reason im considering the time it takes to fade from the windows loading screen.
obviously thats not the case =P

Everyone knows apple computers are just plain beautiful, and don't cut corners on quality.
But you can't say that "PC's aren't beautiful"
"PC" is considered all computers other than Mac computers.
You could narrow that down a bit, but I think I can stand to say that not all "PC's" are ugly.
Besides, "PC" stands for "personal computer"
Is a Mac not a personal computer?
But you have you're point

@lakshmere There's a better way to put this:
Microsoft tries to take software, and let it be driven by hardware it supports many more powerful chips and Graphics cards.
Apple tries to take hardware, and drive it to new heights using software. This is evident in the iphone screen. the actual hardwaer isnt much different from what other touchphones have. however, software engineering and tuning has done wonders for how amazingly responsive and iphone feels. that's the fundamental difference.

I have pretty much the same setup. Am happy with my Vertex SSD on my Macbook Pro. I get about 28 seconds to full boot. 4GB RAM and 2.53 CPU

Is that the "Mac Edition" (Apple certified) Vertex? Apologies if you already answered this.
ragnarocking 2 years ago
no, it's the standart edition. But I read in the OCZ forum that the only difference between them is the sticker on it ;)

what firmware did you update?

my Vertex came with FW 00.PT1
i made an update to 1199
the most recent firmware is 0112
you can find the link in the information box
