  • The opening fanfare should be magnificently grand. This interpretation is not grand but grandiose, an absurd exageration played so slowly as to mock grandeur rather than harken harken it. To the extent that there is any genuine grandeur to be salvaged from the deadly slow tempo, it is the granduer one might associate with a funeral march. Despite the dark temperment characterizing Slavs, I doubt that Shastakovich intended to introduce his self-named "Festive Overture" with a dirge..

  • Sounds like it's underwater at times...

  • Very good performance, too bad the sound quality is lacking

  • @sizviolin1 I agree totally.

  • not that the performance is bad, but the audio quality sucks, there's definitely something golden underneath.

  • Festive dirge?

  • @Polistotle WIN

  • @pianomancuber91

Pianoman--I do not understand your comment, particularly as it (n.b., presumably) relates to my comment. Please elucidate? Thank you.

    Polistotle

  • @Polistotle I was just saying that your renaming the piece "Festive Dirge" because of how slow it was was rather humorous. It was, in my opinion, a win.

  • @Polistotle

Thank you for your explanation and for your compliment! See my new comment--more explicit.
