  • Exercise 5 - Adjusting Speed and Turning... Didn't your RiderCoaches tell you to use brakes before the turns?

  • Exercise 5 - Adjusting Speed and Turning... Didn't your RiderCoaches tell you to use brakes before the turns?

  • I just passed the course this weekend. I had never even touched a motorcycle before this class, but I got the hang of things fairly quickly. I learned a lot and I also was not aware of the amount of skill that's required to drive a motorcycle. The swerving and turning was fun. It was almost like a roller coaster ride. Now I just need to get the bike from the dealership and get my license.

  • @alehax27 shouldnt you already have a license since you passed the course Lol

  • i want a motorcycle license but i've never tried on motorcycle. do they teach you how to ride in the dmv or u have to learn yourself?

  • @o0jun0o

not to be rude, but that was a dumb question

  • @alehax27 not to be dumb, but i really dont know. u cant expect for others to know everything u think are commonsense.

i asked cuz i heard some ppl learned from friends and got the bike without taking msf. its not like this applies to cars..

  • So how is the f4 compared to the bike you rode at the MSF? I took a motorcycle safety course up here in Canada but we were forced to ride their Yamaha Virago. I failed the 1st time cause I went to the course without ever riding a motorcycle before (or car lol) It was fun cause I trashed 2 of their bikes without having to pay or feel guilty about it. Then I passed the second time. Now I got a 2000 cbr f4 but I put it away in storage until March or April :'(

  • on low rpm, the f4 is pretty tamed, but it is an inline 600, so if youre not expecting it, and you accidentally hit the powerband, you can get hurt pretty bad. I would say the f4 was a good learning bike for me. I rode it under 7k rpms the first 3 months, then started playing with the higher rpms later on.

  • @cantryss There is a big time diff in the 2 types of bikes , the F4 is a Sport tour (meaning it has the Sport tuned Susp. and a sportier rideability ) the virago is more of a tourning bike (made for the long haul and not made to be dragged thru corners ) , so take this in mind when u get on ur F4 the steering and balace will be a lot different to that of the Virago , also it would be good to try to find local riding groups and try to ride with peeps on similar bikes . Good Luck and ride safe!

  • going around those cones was a bit of a challenge for me. the rider coach kept telling me "AROUND the cones!"

  • here in nebraska you have to have ur license or learners permit to take the class and then you can get a motorcycle permit at 16, but minimum age for class is 15

  • u have 2 have a drivers license 2 get a motorcycle license??

  • @rEcKLesSzzz

    yes

  • Do you get your license when you pass the test?

  • No. Depends on what state you live in MSF might be accepted by the DMV or not. Usually you still have to take the written test. Most states though, once you've passed the class, it is considered as a Road test so you skip that part of the lisence application! Thanks for watchin!

  • in CA. they waive the physical part, but you must take the written exam, and also part of the class C (regular drivers) exam.

  • well in florida they want you pass the course ,you go to dmv and pay 10 for new licence and 7 for endorsement easy as that,as long as you pass the course, its easy so dont worry

  • You can only use their bikes...you can only bring your own bike after you have your license and sign up for an advanced class.....Here in RI you can only get your motorcycle license if you pass the MSF course. But the MSF written and riding ranges are enough to get your permit and have to hold that for 30 days and just come back and get your license. Their is no DMV test in RI for motorcycles. MSF is it.

  • My fiance and I are taking this in two weeks.. Three days' worth and at the end of the course they are authorized to give the actual skills test right there and if you pass you get your license right from them (This is in MN).

I've been riding for a year but she is brand new, only ridden about 0.5mi across a big parking lot and back a few times.

  • Well, I had 0 miles on my belt when I took the course and I;mstill alive and riding thanks to the lessons learned from MSF.

I'm sure you guys will enjoy it! You're a lucky guy to find a girl who wants to ride!!

Keep the shiny side up! stay safe

  • im 16 in may and want to know how long it takes for you to be able to drive on the road and how long the msf is? i am going to take the corse and i heard after i complete it i get a waver that i just take to the dmv and get a permit? do i have to also take written exam?

  • MSF courses differ depending on who's organizing or providing it. There are 1day classes then theres 2day classes too. As far as being able to ride in the streets, IMO, you can immediately after the class bcause the class and riding part of the course is pretty thorough, although practicing on back roads or parking lots might be smarter.

In some states, as soon as you pass a certified MSF course, some DMV will actually issue you a license, but youll have to ask your local DMV to know for sure!

  • In NC, i believe it just waivers the physical test, you still have to take the written test to get your license

  • Same here in my state. Road test is pretty much waived as soon as you finish an MSF course

  • depends in CA u gotta be 17 1/2!!!

or 15 16 but need drivers ed :(

  • you need to have a drivers license to get your motorcycle license? whattttt suckish laws

  • you seem to know alot so i have a question. i only have a learner's permit right now but if i take the MSF course in mid-july or after i can use the 90day waiver and not have to take the tests at the DMV, will that work to get a motorcycle license? like, i won't also have to get the normal drivers license will I?

  • It differs from state to state. Depending on who you take the MSF with, some DMV in some states will allow you to bypass the road test part, but I think you still have to do the written part like everyone else if you havent already to get your learners.

Best thing to do is call your local DMV and theyll be happy to answer your question for sure! Hope this helps! enjoy! I'm sure you'll love this addiction

  • these saftey courses are great for beginner riders. I live in ohio and if you take this course and pass you don't have to take the actuall test at the bmv. And it lowerd my insurence by 40 dollars.

  • true. Not to mention helps you survive in the streets. Ride safe

  • do you have to take your own bike??

  • they provided the bikes for the course i took...I'm not positive but I think you could bring your own bike...not sure tho

  • do you have to take all three courses to get the card???

  • here in my state, Alabama, it wasn't really a requirement.I just took it to better myself. I've heard on other states though, MSF courses are required before an endorsement is given.

  • Ha nice, I did my MSF this Monday + Tuesday also on a Honda Nighthawk (but a beautiful black one). I can't wait for buying a motorbike. Guys, MSF is a lot of fun and worth every cent!

  • Amen to that! Good luck in choosing a bike!

  • im going to take the corse in december, and i cant wait did you find it to be alot of fun?

  • oh yeah!! it started my addiction to motorcycles..lol good luck! i'm sure you'll enjoy it

  • Thanks for putting this on man, reminds me of my MSF class. I got the addiction that day and have never recovered.

  • What kind of bike is that. Looks like a good beginner bike.

  • it was a honda 250cc nighthawk if I'm not mistaken! And yeah its an excellent beginner bike! very forgiving and not to heavy

  • Nice and smooth - well done!

  • wow an f4 is a first bike! that's ballsy. :)

  • hey, did you have to take a knowelede test and road test after this course? and do they supply the motorcycle?

  • no written or road test after the course. You get to do that when you get your license.

And yes... they do supply the bike. Every place that I looked at that offers MSF course for newbies supply the bike. After that though, the intermideate & advanced course, you have to supply your own bike!

  • so you DO have to take the road/written when getting the license?DMV says the course doesnt require a road test or written with the card for some states

  • true.. here in AL, DMV does not require you to take the road test, but you have to take the written test, which was a piece of cake. Some states dont require the road test, but all of them require the written part.

  • Good job on the course. Smooth through the cones.Good head position.

Ride safe, maybe we'll catch up with you on the road sometime.

  • Great job well done!! my wife did a similar course run by the police! it does help your riding abillity!!dont forget rubber side down is best! ; o P cheers!!

  • yep! have it now about a month... I LOVE IT!beginner friendly but if you twist the throttle and hit 6-7k rpms... lives up to the title "crotch rocket"..lol... you ride??

  • schmoooooooooooooooth!

    good job.

is the F4 your first bike?
