I've used this gun in the 1970's while serving in the Royal Air Force Regiment, we simply called it the 40/70, not much use against aircraft today but awesome when used in the ground role, 240 HE rpm & amazingly this gun has a 4,000 yard flat trajectory, the best machine gun in the world

People seem to allways underestimate the bofors 40mm, thinking just because it's not 100mm+ in size that it cant do damage. One or two of these could mow down a whole convoy of Humvees, Large trucks, Strykers, M113's, even more and you could take on Bradleys.
I want to see those marines mount it on a V150, or an LVTP-5 :3
An old classic, I doubt the Bofors could cope with modern fast jets, but it would still find a place as a support weapon. It must be a great feeling stamping on that peddle, knowing that your sending 40mm of hate into the the bad guys. It would give those on the receiving end something to think about.

Bofors made their own 75mm antiaircraft gun and american copied the 88 mm and use it as a upgraded 90 mm in M-46 , M47 -and yes the americans bougth the right to copy the 40mm after they manufactured it in america, it replaced their 28mm , but also Japan copied the 40mm antiaircraft gun, Io think its called piracy and have they paid any fee or money-dont think so

I've used this gun in the 1970's while serving in the Royal Air Force Regiment, we simply called it the 40/70, not much use against aircraft today but awesome when used in the ground role, 240 HE rpm & amazingly this gun has a 4,000 yard flat trajectory, the best machine gun in the world

Many get stuck with the crap the rich nations are done with, refurbed and sold at auction. Since it's likely that the Phillipines are only going to be facing OTHER poor nations, if even that, I guess they figured it's better to have 50 of these than a pair of Ultra-HighTech-2001 PlaneKiller Missiles (TM, Rights Reserved, etc). It's about deterrence anyway, not real combat.

The 40mm Bofors MK3 is a naval version of the Bofors 40mm L/60 from 1931.
As said earlier the newer Bofors 40mm L/70 from 1947 is also fitted in CV90(Combat vehicle 90) but up side down so it ejects the emty shells upwords instead of downwords.New armour piercing and programmable ammunition have also been developed.

People seem to allways underestimate the bofors 40mm, thinking just because it's not 100mm+ in size that it cant do damage. One or two of these could mow down a whole convoy of Humvees, Large trucks, Strykers, M113's, even more and you could take on Bradleys.
I want to see those marines mount it on a V150, or an LVTP-5 :3

An old classic, I doubt the Bofors could cope with modern fast jets, but it would still find a place as a support weapon. It must be a great feeling stamping on that peddle, knowing that your sending 40mm of hate into the the bad guys. It would give those on the receiving end something to think about.
