Wow, just listen to Akerfeldt here and then compare the Royal Albert Hall 2010 show. Maybe cos he's getting older but the vocal growls are very different. Here, he sounds 100% into it- 2010, not really. 2011, just saw Opeth 2 weeks ago- zero growls. Will the death metal Akerfeldt ever come back or is Opeth from now on a 70s progressive band? Either way, I love this fuckin band.

@mrselfdestruct23 he said in recent interviews that he knows people were worried if he was looseing his voice, he said the reason he sounded bad was because he was useing different ear devices and he was judgeing himself too much, normally he just uses ear plugs. and he also said that watershed was not the last of the growls, there was just no place for it on the new album, he plans to take the opeth sound in even more experimetal directions, so i would exspect more growls in the future

I always appreciated Opeths mellow songs when they were the exception rather than the rule, In My Time of Need (and Damnation album) is one of my favorite Opeth songs, but I got tired of two mellow albums in a row like a lot of people did.

It's not that I'm correct it's facts. Mikael has said many times that he loves prog rock, psychodelic rock and Heritage was a reflection of his love towards it and it's a damn good album. What annoys me is how you listeners think a band is supposed to please you every single time and that they're obligated to stay the same. Watershed wasn't completely mellow anyway. It's about the music not about being heavy all the time and that's what Opeth gets.

Mikael has stated several times that he hasn't completely done away with Death Metal, he just writes whatever comes out for the album process.
